Ryan Meara. Strong keeper. Good hands. Makes very few mistakes.

Last I checked, there is more to goalkeeping than distribution.

Besides, I'd rather have Meara's out of bounds punts as opposed to Coronel trying to split his central defenders by passing it up the middle.

But, yeah, nice pass to Yearwood, sure.

Coronel wasnt great on the goal, made some good saves to keep it 1-0 though and coming off of b2b clean sheets.

Doesnt really matter though, Coronel is going to have to produce some real clear cut stinkers for him to be dropped by Struber

Also I think this hangup by RBNY fans regarding Meara is weird. I appreciate his leadership and many years with the team, but his flaws get overlooked because of sentimentality

Meara has not been able to stay injury free for a long stretches of time. The fact he has not been able to make a claim for the spot having the inside track against two different contenders...

There has to be something to his game we do not see that coaches don't rate as some pundits in these boards

I feel the way I was afraid I'd feel before Week 1 - I don't like any of our keepers.

I don't really understand the scouting report on Coronel's distribution. Without hearing that I would have flagged it as a major concern watching him through 5 games. He's not smooth handling the ball and has played a lot of risky passes that would have been better off out of bounds. From what we heard I was expecting a guy who could play tiki taka out of the back.

Meara is probably an average MLS keeper.

Jansen might be better, might not be. Coronel might be better, might not be.

We have 2 foreign slots (valued at 200K each) and 700K in salary that can be better be used elsewhere.

Sure, Meara is injury prone. Sign Coronel, sell/buy out Jansen. Or keep Jensen, don't sign Coronel.

I hate how bad Coronel is at claiming balls and crosses in the box.  He lets balls just go across the six-yard box without trying to claim them more than past goalies we've had here and it bothers me.  Its the most important part of a goalkeepers job.

Absolutely. Too much importance is being placed on distribution. It's a nice bonus but the most important aspect by far is stopping the shots you're supposed to. Also handling crosses and other balls in the air.

Coronel isn't garbage but he's gotta get better or we have to go in a different direction.

There are many goalkeepers in the world. Why is this a problem?

Colonel isnt great. Meara cant be counted on because he is made of glass.

I changed it into a question to be more open-ended.
