Finally, a home for all the random posts that do not deserve their own thread.

WARNING: THIS THREAD MAY INCLUDE RESULTS, HENCE THE [R].

So I was reading on the annual Catalonian exhibition match. This year's will feature Catalonia vs. Honduras.

The Catalonia thing reminds me a lot of the Guadaloupe thing, where they almost ran away with the Gold Cup a couple of cycles ago. The quality on these "regional" teams is outstanding. Then I saw the sub-par roster that Bob Bradley & the family circus always bring to Southern California in January and thought...

California National Team. Who would you call?

18 man roster for a friendly, I'd say...

GK
Nick Rimando (Montclair)
Chris Seitz (San Luis Obispo)

DEF
Carlos Bocanegra (Upland)
Danny Calif (Montclair)
Patrick Ianni (Lodi)
Michael Orozco (Orange)
Heath Pearce (Modesto)
Sean Franklin (Panorama City)

MID
Landon Donovan (Redlands)
Maurice Edu (Fontana)
Sacha Kljestan (Huntington Beach)
Chris Pontius (Yorba Linda)
Robbie Rogers (Rancho Palos Verdes)
Jeff Larentowicz (Pasadena)

FW
Chris Wondolowski (Danville)
Hercules Gomez (Los Angeles)
Sal Zizzo (San Diego)
Tristan Bowen (Van Nuys)

Thought you said "Catatonia". Now that would have been different.

From last year, in response to D.Hines saying something silly about California and the other coast being "socialist states" and me pointing out that the real socialism comes from tax transfers from librul states like Cali, New York, etc to the Confederate states, and Josh suggesting we should just be the California Republic again...

The California National Team...

We'd really need to find another forward, but we're deep in the back with Hejduk and Castillo available. We could switch out Cannon for Gato.

And this is just from the guys in the US national team pool

Uniforms would be white top, red shorts, white socks, red sash on the shirt, with the bear and the star in the badge

Could add blue and gold in there.

The official state colors of California are blue and gold - officially designated in 1951. Blue represents the sky and sea. Gold symbolizes the color of the precious mineral mined by the forty- niners from the hills of California.

I think Hartman was born elsewhere. We'd have to see what the Californian Migra has to say on the matter. Same goes for Feilhaber.

Yeah, he is sort of the opposite of Jones for the US.

Youth and college
Frei moved from Switzerland to the United States in the late 1990s, attended De La Salle High School in Concord, California, and played college soccer at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2008, he was named to the All-Pac-10 first team and the NSCAA Far West All-Region team, and was also named to Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Season.[1] During his college years Frei also played with both San Francisco Seals and San Jose Frogs in the USL Premier Development League.

He is an American footballer of Swiss nationality.
Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.

Proposed California Republic National Team:

--------------------------Rimando----------------------------
-----------------Ianni-------------------Boca----------------
---Franklin------------------------------------------Pearce----
---------------------------Edu--------------------------------
-----------Donovan------------------------------Rogers-----
--------------------------Corrales----------------------------
----------------Herc-----------------Barrett------------------

Hedjuk
Conrad
Wynne
Peterlin
Cannon
Seitz

I've not done a lot of research yet, so feel free to make better suggestions. More attacking options would be nice. I think we should also assume that players now tied to another national team would have seriously considered playing for California.

There are a handful of players in the link to that Wiki article who aren't technically from California either. Wynne and Cannon stand out among them. They grew up in California, so I guess that's why they're on the list, but for the sake of argument we're going primarily with CA natives.

That's why I put my list with the birthplace of each player.

Cool - so that's why the UC's are all blue and gold.

So we'll be like Italy, with our colors differing from our flag. I guess the red star and the bear would just be on the badge.

However, one could argue that the blue and gold were adopted under the despotic rule of the United States, so that the "true" colors of our state remain red and white.

And as to who is eligible to play for California - all I can say is that you people are racists and elitists.

Californianism is not a matter of birth, it is a matter of aspiration.

FIFA allows individual countries to determine nationality - so my standard is anyone who went through high school here - like Hartman and Feilhaber - is eligible to play for my country.

Isaac wants California to be the Chivas of CONCACAF. You can take the boy out of Mexico, but...

S.Bones says "No!" to sangrecentrism.

Hey, I was just trying to keep it simple, but if we can bring guys like Hartman aboard I'm all for it.
