#1430634 Enough excuses

Posted by iced1776 on Yesterday, 12:50 PM

It's always some sort of an excuse for this team.

You prefer I just kick and scream when we lose? This was a difficult game for legitimate reasons other than "we suck". The team came close to a point under those circumstances, sorry that I don't see it as a total disaster.

I have trouble getting too worked up over losing on penalties, they're mostly a crapshoot.

I only tuned in after Cincy scored and were sitting back. How did we play before their goal?

He always goes all out (and beyond). I don't remember a game where he didn't end up on the ground writhing in pain after a tackle or a coming together. For his sake, I wish he could dial it back like 2% to be safer.

Multiple times per game I'm convinced he's just hurt himself! Not sure I've ever watched someone play more like a wrecking ball lol

Clips from the Montreal game - TLDR Reyes is still really really really good at soccer

A few games in we're definitely starting to see the benefits of having a few creative players see the field consistently together with instructions to try to make some plays with the ball. A lot of times those quick one-touch passing sequences are just the result of guys learning how to play with each other. If only we could get consistent minutes for our first stringers and not the backups!

He's still behind CCJ, Amaya, and Edelman for me, but not by too much.

Tolkin vs. Bernadeschi

Stroud making some nice plays dribbling into space

The first game against these guys is the one I thought should have pushed Schneider to can Struber. They've won 4 of their last 5 though.

I doubt they start Dante but I hope he gets on in the second half.

Tough to make a judgement on a game missing 23 players that could have easily ended anywhere between 0-0 and 3-3

Nealis and Tolkin did their part acting like the teenagers in charge of all the kids, they both did great to shut down Toronto's DPs.

Our strikers still stink.

Really no obvious overpays right now. Maybe Duncan? Even that, meh its fine. Wasn't long ago we had Hamlett signing guys to $400k contracts that couldn't even make the first team.

Are you putting these together Iced? If so, thanks alot.

Any feel for how Reyes under Struber differs from this first game under Lesesne? I want to say Reyes was not doing quite as many playable, on the grass passes in earlier games this season.  Maybe just a function of sub-par opponents, but maybe as ivo indicated, Struber was handcuffing the guys...

Yeah I started doing them this season, grabbing little clips that aren't really highlight reel material but still interesting. I like rewatching games anyway when I'm not three beers in and emotionally invested in the final score. I fast forward through time out of bounds or boring possession (like 50% of each game lol). I do a longer post each week on the team's subreddit where I organize my thoughts a bit more, its been a fun midweek hobby for me.

Reyes still did a lot of this stuff playing under Struber but he went into hyperdrive in this first game under Lesesne. Overall I think its safe to say we're going to see everyone playing it on the ground at least a bit more. I'm curious to see how we look against an MLS side.

Reyes highlights vs. DC

I don't know if you guys have noticed, but he's really, really, really good at soccer. Skill move in the 23rd minute is even nicer than tertiary assist

skimmed back through the game and the biggest difference Lesesne brought is basically cutting out long balls entirely. whole first half was reyes pinging lasers to the feet of attacking players with barely a single long ball played up to Barlow. not much else looked different, but this wasn't a team that needed an entire overhaul. maybe those sorts of attacking tweaks are enough.

Lol oh God, I would consider the biggest optimists on these boards to be you Iced, Mcsoccer, and Ivo and this season Ive seen little optimism from any of you. I just want to start winning games again and this team to score more than one goal a game again.

It's been a season of ugly soccer my friend. Brightest take I've been able to muster so far is "in an alternate universe with no injuries and another $20M worth of attacking players maybe it can work under Struber". And plenty of people didn't even like me going that far!

Here's to more goals like the one we saw against DC

Oh god 67% I consider myself a perennial optimist when it comes to this team but you're asking a lot here!

It was a great assist, no way to discount the play. And hey, he should have had an assist in MLS play with his through ball to Manoel last week too.
