Zlatan going back to Europe after LA also counters the retirement league rep.

The problem is that the "traditional" media and Eurosnobs has latched on to that rep, and it's not going away any time soon...

agree but over it.

we don't need them to have functioning league and significant growth for 26 + years.

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

And he went on to win Serie A!

Yea, hard to break that perception. Higuains brother played in MLS and he still thought MLS was a retirement league before he came here.

Yup and he struggled, deservingly. But then got his act together and this past season turned it around and did a lot better.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Imagine being as rich as these guys and choosing to live in Saudi Arabia not Miami just for some extra monopoly money. Oil money makes the football world go round.

Messi already has a place in Miami...and his family may have some input into their next destination. I think Miami, gateway to Latin America, has some pull.

MLS is supposedly offering a Beckham like deal to messi where he can be a team owner when he retires

He followed his family's request to stay in Barca for an extra season, and supposedly his wife loves Miami. Maybe using Qatar to drive up the price? It would be so great for MLS.

As much as I would like to see Messi in MLS, I dont agree much with the proposed everyone pitch in so MLS can sign Messi and allocate him to Miami. Messi would be a short term boost to the sport in the US. Long term, MLS owners should prioritize buying out absentee ownership groups like RedBull. I would think, having fully supported franchises in the largest market would be priority number one.
