My first thought is that it was an attempted carjacking.
Second, a drug deal gone bad.

I have been to this mall and it looks like they are finally opening up some stores and resteraunts. Much of the entertainment is open with the 2 mini golf courses, the indoor ski slope, ice rink, amusement park and water park all now open. Hmart is also opening up soon which will be good for tailgaters who forgot something from the super market can now pick it up at the mall and walk back to their tailgates. This will be nice for NFL games, XFL games hopefully in 2022, and whatever gold cup/friendlies that will eventually be played at Metlife when this virus is under control when the vast majority is vaccinated.

Hmart ... will be good for tailgaters ... at Metlife
Will the mall be open during MetLife events?

It has been open during Metlife XFL events and late 2019 NFL reg season games. However parking for the mall goes up to Metlife gameday price of $40 however.
