Cut that back, Royer. Valot (?) wide open for a tap in.

#1366508 Was the return of MLS a good experience?

I know a lot of people are bothered by the ads and the big Adidas logo in the middle of the field but neither of those bothered me.

Someone pointed out on Twitter that this is against the FIFA rules.

Literally Law 1 (Section 12)

Commercial advertising
No form of commercial advertising, whether real or virtual, is permitted on the field of play, on the ground within the area enclosed by the goal nets, the technical area or the referee review area (RRA), or on the ground within 1 m (1 yd) of the boundary lines from the time the teams enter the field of play until they have left it at half-time and from the time the teams re-enter the field of play until the end of the match.

They were showing fans on the scoreboard there, some looked like zoom streams. You couldn't hear them though.

German and English league games have added in piped in crowd noise but personally I'd rather hear the guys screaming and yelling and cursing like we have in these 2 games vs crowd noise for a crowd that we know isn't there

NBC has piped in crowd noise as a default for Prem games but you can watch with real noise on the app.  No fake noise for me, thanks.

#1366466 The story of how silverware eluded the MLS team of the decade

You could also write about how RBNY maintained continued success without spending nearly as much on high profile players as other teams....but the glass always has to be half-empty to some folks.

You can be successful and even legendary with an approach like that (Billy Beane), and I agree that's pretty good. We could certainly be in a much worse situation (NYC, NE, Crew all come to mind, and that's just in the East).
Doesn't change the fact that we have not won MLS Cup and aren't looking particularly likely to do it any time soon. We HAVE won multiple Shields, but it's not looking great for future repeats of that either.
You can acknowledge the positives and complain about the missing pieces, which don't necessarily have to be massive financial splashes, just a key player or two to get us over the top.

Shame for Luis. His D failed him.

I think it was a fairly familiar experience for him, unfortunately.

Far from absolving him from blame. Just saying that at the point in time, in the situation we were in, even if he wanted to*, he couldn't say "everyone should wear masks" as there were not enough masks. Agree with everything else you've said.

*and clearly he didn't

Barring some massive outbreak where a half dozen teams drop out, I think this tourney goes on without a hitch like Premier League and the Bundesliga.

I mean, the tourney hasn't even started and it's already worse than Bundesliga (0 positive tests after the competition started IIRC), so this is a lofty expectation.

Agree on the incentives to complete the tournament no matter what, but the trend isn't looking great and "without a hitch" is certainly out the window with Dallas dropping out.

#1366120 Can we bring some real talent here?

Posted by ivo on 30 June 2020 - 01:56 PM

Tyler was a massive talent the moment he came to the first team.  Any DP(s) that would keep Tyler on the bench would have been amazing.
Were talking Cahill, Henry level.

Let's calm down here, no need to rewrite history even if we all love Tyler. Dax, who's certainly not a DP at the levels you mention, was doing a good enough job in a similar role the previous season.

notice the straight trolling about League 1 pub league..... LOL

Fun but a bit dumb. League One's _recently proposed_ salary cap is 2.5M GBP (around 3.8M USD), which means that ex DPs, MLS (4.4M wage cap) and League One are quite comparable in terms of player wages at the moment, though you could certainly argue the two leagues are on  divergent paths going forward. I'm sure some of the L1 teams that were recently in the Championship (and PL, hello Sunderland) have higher wages than most DP-light MLS teams.

Saw a couple of Gilligham home games live over the last 2 years and would say NYRB would be better on most days than the 4 different teams I saw, but it would hardly be a walk in the park. They also would be rocked by some of the stereotypically physical tackling (let's just say Felipe would be rolling around A LOT if he was in the game, but often with a good reason).

#1365953 Davis named captain

Posted by ivo on 24 June 2020 - 09:54 AM

No like 2600 minutes and zero goals and 2 assist.

Its weird, when you look at his stats.  The more he plays the less he produces.

It's almost like his main task on the pitch is not to provide goals or assists.

I also think that he can and should be contributing more offensively, but when he's asked by the manager to bring up the ball across the center line and then basically move out of the way and stay deep to prevent counters, you can't fault him personally for the lack of offensive production.

Your last part showed you have zero interest in anything resembling a good faith argument.

Sure, just like your every sentence on the subject has indicated as much.

They shut down houses of worship so they weren't really respecting the first amendment during all this to begin with. Do you think a gathering of tens of thousands of people in the middle of a pandemic is advisable?

My post was formulated as a yes or no question, didn't see an answer, not surprised.

To your question, no, health-wise it was not advisable, but I'm guessing that explaining why protests happened anyway to you would be pointless.

The government officials who allowed mass demonstrations over the past few weeks have nobody to blame but themselves for that. They forfeited every bit of credibility they had by doing that because people saw this while being told if they go to a park they will go to jail and could clearly see the contradiction.

What is your suggested alternative to "allowing demonstrations", abolishing the first amendment and jailing everybody?

This pandemic really made us forget what an incompetent roster Hamlett built.

It sure hasn't! We just had more worrying issues to talk about.

Can see why he was hired, seems like a practical and well reasoned man, transfer philosophy seems to align with RBNY (scout for players that fit in with the culture of the club and share the clubs values and ambitions).

To add to Jake's point, the quote above is management speak 101. Literally no one would ever say they are looking to add a player who won't fit in the culture or doesn't share the ambitions of the club.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he's a smart guy and also have high hopes for his tenure. Just saying that interviews with boilerplate platitudes do nothing to convince me one way or the other.
