Philadelphia Union was able to sign Orozco thanks to a deal with Red Bull New York, in which Philadelphia sent allocation money to NY in exchange for the Red Bulls’ top spot in the Major League Soccer allocation order.

Oh, you dumb, dumb, dumb fucks. Philly got a player, a #1 pick, and cash for their slot. This better be A LOT of cash we got.

RED BULL AQCUIRE ALLOCATION MONEY FROM UNION
By Red Bulls Reader

The club announced today that it has acquired allocation money from the Philadelphia Union. In return, the Red Bulls switched places with Philadelphia in the MLS allocation order, as New York moved from first to sixth.

I guess after they use the pick we move up to 5th, but Jesus Christ we are stupid.

Apropos of everything, Bill Simmons today wrote an article on the cruelty of sports, featuring certain franchises. He doesn't really care about MLS, but I'm pretty sure we'd qualify for one of the top-five spots.

Anyway, gonna be interesting to see how this works out. Maybe we needed the allocation money (how much could they have left after sending a bunch to Dallas for their pick, btw?) to sign Henry. But if we're signing Henry... don't we need an allocation as well? And if we need an allocation... doesn't that mean we'd have to trade something of value to move back up the list?

My only consolation is that San Jose (now at the top of the allocation list) are as stupid as we are. However, the teams behind them (KC, Dallas, DC) aren't.

Rooting for this team is fucking brutal.

This is why this is idiotic: the price has been set and repeated, McBride and Perkins, same exact deals. Player + #1 pick + cash. No seriously, this better be A LOT of cash.

And if you see Bocanegra, Beasley, or -- god forbid! -- Jozy come back to MLS later this year... Well... well.

I bet Agoos pulled this one while the rest of the management staff is in Spain.

Doesn't this basically increase our salary cap?

Again, we trade down in the list, not completely out.

I kind of see recent moves as a way to increase our ability to spend / increase cap. Whether it's a good strategy, I don't know.

I honestly don't see either of those happening.

Guess Soler couldn't wait for a returning national team player. Which could means Soler needs the cash now for aquiring experienced Euro players. Hope it's the bank he got.

Soler sounds like a man with a plan. We shall see.

yeah but the point is they couldve gotten more as Dan points out in similar trades in the past teams got #1 pick + plus money. THATS why people are disappointed.
