You'd think so, except a lot of what I'm seeing from Galaxy fans -- online, anyway -- seems to suggest that winning covered up a lot of issues for a long time.

It seems a lot of fans feel the FO is out of touch and content to coast on the team's past accomplishments as the once-premier team in MLS gets passed by the Atlanta Uniteds and TFCs of the world. Plus, their academy and development system is a wreck -- they've completely failed to develop any homegrown players that can actually contribute to the first team outside of Gyasi Zardes and there are few Galaxy academy kids in the national team set up. And it definitely doesn't help that LA is a horrible sports town.

That being said, I'd probably trade our problems for theirs.

Zardes was "developed" by the Galaxy in only the loosest terms possible.  He joined their academy in 2008, was there just long enough to hit the HGP threshold, then went and played four years at Cal State-Bakersfield.

Like you said, their academy and development system is a wreck, and Zardes isn't really a counter to that argument.

"...special guest Ali Curtis the former sporting director of the New York Red Bulls  will be in studio to break down all five picks."

How did this go? Any sign of the 300-page plan?

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

So LAFC already have Zimmerman and Ciman as CB pairing?

Yeah, looks like it.

Took two kids and traded them for Ciman.  Surprised considering they were convincing that they were going to keep most of the players they selected.

Don't worry, we counter with Aaron Long, Collin's corpse, and Escobar's own goal potential.

It's time to get rid of the expansion draft unless there is a rule where the selections have to be on the team's pro roster for one season. That would prevent this goofy draft-and-trade crap that has gone on too much lately.

Why should teams even offer up players if the expansion clubs have no intentions to keep them?

Yea, it seems like its become less about helping an expansion team full out there roster and more about hurting existing teams.

I also dont agree with all the help the new teams get. Would it be so bad for them to struggle a few seasons?

It's funny, because Zardes was such a fluke homegrown success for LA. Like you point out, he never really spent much time in their academy, only enough time for the team to stick him with the homegrown tag and sign him. But also because his one good season, when he scored 16 goals, he only did it by virtue of the fact he happened to be standing next to two other, far superior players. It was -- unfortunately, literally -- a season so good he rode it to years' worth of national team call-ups.

I posted about him in the Random Player Name Thread, but it didn't seem like anyone got my sarcasm. He really is garbage. If the Galaxy want to take credit for developing him, they've got to answer for that God awful first touch.

Meanwhile, he's on the trading block and the Galaxy let go, like, five or six homegrown signings, too. They basically looked at he last decade of development work, threw up their hands and said, "Fuck it, let's start over."
