#1364900 MLS, Red Bulls and Coronavirus

Posted by regulator on 20 April 2020 - 11:45 AM

Im laughing my ass as some Americans are not following the guidelines to stay home. Maddening and insulting to health workers.

How is Nee Jersey doing from a local perspective?

Maybe some MF posters who strongly believe this is a hoax can visit like-minded people protesting in Michigan? Win win for everyone involved IMO

If the pandemic drags on into late summer or fall, they should consider this:

There's 26 MLS teams. Make a World Cup style tourney with the group stages at neutral locations TBD

LAFC bye for group stage (SS winner)

SEA bye for group stage (MLS Cup winner)

6 groups of 4 teams each.  Should take no more than 2 weeks. (Sat/Sun - Wed/Thurs - Sat/Sun).

Top team in each group advances (6 teams)

2nd place team in each group advances (6 teams)

Top two 3rd place teams advance (2 teams) - will play either LAFC or SEA in opening round

Then do a world cup style playoff. single elimination knockout at the higher ranked team's site (based on total # of points from group stage, then goal differential, goals for, etc.).

Make the playoffs on Sat/Sun. Total of 4 rounds would take 4 weeks.  Can do the whole shortened season in 6 weeks.

Toughest part IMO would be finding neutral sites for the group stages. You'd want smaller sites that are geared towards soccer (i.e. not a random NFL or college football stadium that would never fill up). But you also don't want to give any one team an unfair advantage (i.e. RBNY playing at RBA)

Dax here for 6 years, JPA 4.

Dax 198 games, JPA 112.

Dax 2 shields (1 as captain), JPA 0.

Dax 1 MLS Best XI, JPA 1.

Of course, case can easily be made for JPA as well.

Amado 4 years

Amado 103 games

Amado 1 La Manga Cup (1 as captain)

Amado 1 MLS Best XI, 1 MLS MVP

Looks like Austria and Germany are going to start reopening in the next couple weeks. Washington state also getting rid of ventilators since they too have rounded a corner, it seems.

Also this regarding US economy reopening: https://www.google.c...74b281d4f3.html

Looks like demand is growing fast to end the draconian measures that have been imposed on the public. Not only do they generate unnecessary fearmongering and anxiety (spotted people this weekend wearing face masks inside their own cars with windows rolled up, and also outside in wide open green spaces with nobody around), they are not sustainable at all.

Maybe we will see a return of sports even sooner.

The fact that you cannot make the leap of logic to understand why a person would have a mask on in their cars (i.e. minimizing the possibility of cross contamination by repeatedly removing and placing the mask on - by simply keeping it on until they reach home) speaks volumes to the quality of your posts on this forum.

Petke as a coach, sure, but earlier in the thread they specified only based on their attributes / contribution as a player. Based on playing days only I'd put petke below most of those on the list. I'd argue that he's not even the most deserving defender (probably goes to Taxi)

We could/should have two mount Rushmores. One metro and one RBNY

Metro:

Howard
Savarese
Guevara
Petke

RBNY:

Henry
BWP
Robles
JPA

Edit: I could see the argument for Mathis in the metro one, moving petke to RBNY and bumping jpa off

Yup everyone just get back to normal. The MF brain trust has spoken. Shift the narrative already. Ignore what global health experts have already determined.

That dude is typically a fuckwit shitposter of the 100th degree but at least his posts are usually limited to soccer. The fact that he's now choosing to bless us with his vast knowledge of infectious diseases is where I draw the line. Is there a block function on these boards?

i would caution against pulling people in and out of the lineup each week, but i 100% agree that someone other than white or barlow should start this week.  leave parker in as he'll hopefully have Long back alongside of him

#1362933 Random Player Name Thread 2020

Posted by regulator on 04 March 2020 - 08:10 AM

That's the thing with Milo. He is spot on with his assessments. If we were a normally run team, these suggestions make sense.

However under the current management and operating structure, it's extremely unlikely we would commit $$ to anyone we wouldn't be able to flip for a profit. Maybe we should name this thread "random player names for other teams thread"

#1362931 Not renewing season tickets

Posted by regulator on 04 March 2020 - 07:38 AM

Twasnt. Probably close to double that. All things considered it will probably be our lowest attended regular season game - once the kickoff temp is above 40 we'll see an uptick in attendance.

Becoming a STH was never a monetary decision for me personally. I wasn't looking to flip my seat. In fact I became a STH after the profitable euro friendlies were over. I just really like my seat and I like supporting my team. Plus it's by far the cheapest way to do so of the local pro sports teams.

Personally I will be voting with my wallet in the concession stands, not by canceling my ticket. But to each his own.
