I would guess almost all Red Bull fans want a coaching change, but Borats takes are so bad he actually has people defending Armas...

I guess I would expect nothing less than a personal attack from someone like yourself, who is not exactly known for strong logic around here.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Yes, but...the situation was handled poorly on a few levels and there were other things going on that exacerbated it.

What an insightful article by Big Jake.

"According to Voetbal Nieuws, his value has risen from 680,000 euros to 2,800,000 euros in a mere few months, deepening Anderlecht’s commitment to a new “data-driven transfer policy.”  Voetbal Nieuws notes, “In 2019, Murillo was even the prime figure in the number of successful aerial duels and interceptions in the MLS. In addition, the Panamanian also - among all MLS flank defenders - entered the top ten in terms of successful defensive and offensive actions.”

This confirms what I was saying earlier, where while Murillo did commit a few defensive lapses, overall his performance was head and shoulders above the alternative scrub Buck. I understand there may be a debate about the attitude, but a claim that this is just "such a bad take" shows rather poor taste and quite simply lack of logic. Also, Armas didn't merely bench him: he did not even activate him for a play-off match, where our lack of talent was on full display after first half.

Looks like taxi is having problems with his new club. It was the right decision to let him go. Too much of a drama queen. And murillo has been murillo with his new club.plays well offensively but forgets to defend which is not a good trait for a defender.

Duncan and the french kid are upgrades

We already had Duncan, and Taxi always played well for us. He was the only guy who made an all star team even last year. I don't feel Pendant/Duncan/Seagirst is an upgrade over Lawrence/Duncan/Murillo. Why not keep Lawrence by paying him a bit more and replace departed Murillo if he wanted to leave by Pendant? Now that feels like a solid line-up. Now if Duncan is injured again or someone gets suspended we are back at Buckmaster level in Seagrist.

Seagrist won't play at RB. he's left-footed. If Duncan goes down, I'm guessing Egbo gets the spot.

Anyone who has played a sport past high school knows this take is absolute garbage. Professional athletes do not need motivation from coaches. When you have a stadium of fans, locker room of guys you're close with, a paycheck providing for your lifestyle and family, the old guy giving you a rah rah speech does absolutely nothing. When you were in little league I'm sure the 1st basemen's dad gave you a good speech and you guys won a big playoff game, but that is a complete bullshit assessment for college/pro sports.

Honestly, nothing personal, but that was such a shitty take. Armas sucks at evaluating talent, managing personalities, tactics, fine. But motivation is such an embarrassingly stupid expectation from any coach.

Couldn't disagree more.   Its just obviously and observably false.    A big part of it is credibility; players can be motivated or de-motivated when they don't trust the coach's ability.  There are any number of real life examples of coaches getting players fired up during pre-game or halftime locker rooms talks, but those are only a tiny part of motivation.    Just as you can think of 100 obvious examples of a coach de-motivating players, by playing them out of position, screwing around with their minutes,  not paying attention to them in training, criticizing them in public, etc. etc. there are any number of examples going the other way.

You are right, it's Pendant's injury/suspension that would be most worrisome. Let's hope he holds up and plays well.

What an insightful article (linked) by Big Jake.

(Corrected!) Author credit goes to Ross Haley.
I found the contrast in fortunes interesting, and
thought others here would enjoy the article.
I feel for Kemar, am happy for Murillo.
I wish well to all our players who move on,
whether in MLS, overseas, etc.
I miss far too many of them, as well.

Not to you, which I am more than ok with.
And sorry, I didnt mean for it to be a personal attack, I just thought it was funny how a bunch of people that HATE Armas as a coach are defending him.

So, your logic is this: since some people that hate Chris didnt think Murillo handling/benching/removal from play-offs was a big mistake, and I thought it was, that must mean my take is so bad and it is funny to you. Sherlock Holmes you are not.

Youve managed to make a group of Armas haters defend him. Agreed, it didnt take a mastermind to see thats what happened. I just think its funny when a bunch of people that hate someone, but are forced defend that person. You can say I have a bad sense of humor, but its not bad logic.

Long has spoken about how Jesse would call him personally to go over his play while he was at RB2 and how surprised he was that the first team coach was taking such a personal interest in him. I think that's the kind of stuff you can fairly qualify as "motivation"

Did you play in college? Professionally?
If your conclusion is correct, why do we see this:

Yes and yes, with a degree in sports psych. Day 1 in a 101 class- rah rah halftime speeches have no measurable affect on athletes. For every one of your 2 examples, there are 1,000,000 of someone giving that speech, then having their team continue to get their ass kicked in the 2nd half.

And back to the point, Murillo wanted out, was a locker room cancer. You honestly think Armas was going to rah rah him into giving a shit for playing for us anymore? As I said before, this ain't a movie.

Perfect example of creating a personal relationship with someone. Those conversations didn't magically make Long into a motivated monster of CB who could take on Europe. Rather, those conversations happened because he was already showing serious promise and Jesse wanted to connect with him on his way to the main club. Pretty sure if Armas called up an RB2 guy right now, it wouldn't motive that guy into being BWP right now. But it would get them excited and feel a strong connection to the club.

Ah, the argument from authority.

Day 1 in a 101 class- rah rah halftime speeches have no measurable affect on athletes.

Why is there sports psychology at all, then?

For every one of your 2 examples, there are 1,000,000 of someone giving that speech, then having their team continue to get their ass kicked in the 2nd half.

So, your better approach would be to tell the team:
Sorry, lads, but sports psychologists maintain that
nothing I say can motivate you to play better.
I can envision the team captain standing up:
Hey, guys, the coach must be trying some of that
reverse psychology bullshit on us! Lets do it!

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.
