You guys ever check out People Under the Stairs? :

Acid Raindrops

Plunken 'Em

July 3rd

Down in LA

They have 7 albums of great material.

MURS, I still can't believe this guy hasn't blown up. He's done projects with many good artists.

Badman

I know

Sillygurl

The Visionaries are also good:

Bless The Mic

I kind of have trouble using "Weezy" and Kid Cudi in the same sentence. MF Doom, Dilated Peoples and Lootpack are some other great acts I'm into.

Great Thread.

I will have to check out People Under the Stairs.

Doom, Dilated..... This dude knows whats up.

I'm sure you have heard EV's solo albums. I can't wait for Cats and Dogs to come out!

no doubt, I'm really psyched for Felt 3. Murs has been around the block too, dude has done so much work and toured hard.

i just don't ever see him "blowing up" anymore than he already has, and not that he really needs to. he's got a solid following in the strong niche market that is underground hip hop and tours like a motherfucker.

anything more than that and he would have to comprimise something, anything, in order to get more radio play and a deal with a major pop label. remember when black eyed peas were underground? their first albums were terrific, and then fergie happened. they turned in to a completely different entity, one which was more approachable from the mainstream audience and made that jump from the underground.

Murray's Revenge wasn't my favorite EP, but I still can't believe I haven't seen the movie yet. I think that one he did previously also with 9th Wonder, 3:16, is stronger. The End of The Beginning is my all time fav, aside from all the Felt albums with my main man Slug.

Murs rules the world.

i hear black eyed peas songs now and i cannot believe i went to TWO of their shows back in the day, but that was real hiphop on their first couple albums. it's like jay-z says, though..

Bk-One, Toki Wright, Brother Ali, and Evidence at the Metro on the 18th.

I was at the first stop of this tour in Duluth, Minnesota and it was easily the realest show i've ever been to.

I highly recommend it.

I wholeheartedly agree with your statements.

For a second I forget that this genre of ours is not intended for the mainstream. It is a niche market and it shouldn’t come as a surprise whenever I bring up the name MURS and 9 out of 10 people will say “Who!?”. Although frustrating it’s reality.

It’s funny that you mentioned BEP also. A couple of weeks ago I purchased a DVD titled “Soundclash” where DJ’s/Producers go head to head for 3 rounds on beats with the crowd being the final judge. The second battle on this DVD consists of a pre-fergie Will.I.Am (B.E.P.) vs. Thes One (People Under The Stairs) and although Thes comes hard in the first two rounds Will kills him on the last beat.

I was in awe of the skills Will displays but ultimately disappointed that the same guy on this DVD went on to produce such classics as “My Humps” and “Boom Boom Pow”.

Here is the trailer for the Soundclash DVD.

I might be hitting up the Mad City show on the 19th, IF I can get a ride out of Macomb that day!
