Last Forbes list had us at 250

https://www.forbes.c...ble-teams-2018/

I don't think they have an interest in selling - their MLS investment was always a long play, could wait 30 years more

I can dig it.

This is how investments should be. You buy for the long term. Stocks, ETFs, mutual funds. You should be a portfolio manager.

If your reliable source is a prospective buyer, and he/she has relayed to you that the price tag is $500 million, I guess your prospective buyer is either unwilling or unable to pay $500 MM.

sports valuation is a crazy world, especially in perceived big markets and when people sense expansion is drying up.  Fire without owning their stadium went for $400mm.  We have a $200mm in a bigger market.

Also a prospective buyer not getting the team doesnt just come down to having to have the money or being willing to pay.  After a couple suboptimal sales *cough* DC United *cough* league is a bit more stringent on approving ownership and making sure the owners are liquid enough after factoring in the cost of the team.  Sacramento had to wait because they didnt think the original ownership group had enough money.

But Chicago only has one team

Should have been one more:

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

With both NYCFC and RB doing meh jobs commercially the opportunity to do it right and become the knicks/yankees of MLS is worth more than any chicago team will ever be worth

Someone in the mothership would have to learn of this first. Reporting crowds of 15K feeds the deception.

You can report whatever crowds you want, but revenue is revenue.

RBNY revenue is a blip on RB books.

This sounds sarcastic but I mean it as a genuine question - has there been an example in the history of American sports of fans driving an owner out of town?

None that I can think of and by just doing a quick Google search nothing I can find either.

Not AFAIK, but I envision something like this:
