I like Serhiy Buletsa, Erling Haaland and Quincy Promes... I say it's time they start splashing the kind of money Atlanta has been and some...

Erling Haaland? Maybe in 2030! There is no way he is not going to the Premier League. His price tag will be between 50-100 million pounds.

#1356643 New logo, if anyone cares

By minimizing the soda part top, all a new owner needs to do is replace the small top part of the logo and fans will hardly notice. Part of the shock when RB took over was that everything personal (uniforms, logo) connected to the team was completely changed in a flash. It seemed like a new and completely different team.

I'm sure that Red Bull, if contemplating selling the franchise and their New York / New Jersey assets, is consciously preparing to minimize the shock to fans by securing trademarks for new logos and the like. Come on.

#1356199 Bring back Sims

From 'Once A Metro': https://www.onceamet...on-to-come-back

So, I'm thinking that Sims would prefer to be back in the Prem, but if he's going to sit on the bench he'd be open to returning and getting 25 starts for NY. I'm sure Hamlett and Armas would agree to it, but likely depends on Hasenhuttl.

Surely to fuck If layman fans can see wtf is wrong the folks who have built a successful Salzberg and Leipzig (along w a global sporting enterprise, business, etc) have the capacity to dispassionately roll some heads and reboot NYRB.

They did this in 2015 a bit - no need to retype here all that was done.

The current situation with local incompetence and apparent Austrian apathy seems bizarre. I get that we have got adverts on the shirts but am dismayed to think thats satisfying enough.

Ralf wants player development. Hes kick ass type A guy. Armas couldnt carve a pumpkin much less develop talent. Hamlet has been Peter Principled into a role for which hes not fit.

So - and this is optimism carrying the day in my thoughts - those two for starters will be shown the door, along with a player clear out. I am certain practically all fans get/want this. How much they will go about recruiting non-domestic talent I am suspect even with blinkers on. But if Ralf is to be taken at his word surely that is in play as well. As for specific team development/recruitment (eg, we need a cdm, etc) I hold little hope.

The next 3-4 months will truly be telling. Heres (cautiously) hoping.

I think this idea that the RB Global folks should be able to see 'wtf is wrong' is off a little bit.  This whole playoffs thing (Champions League, local Cups, aside) is foreign to Europe.  The German and Austrian champions are the season champions.  Forget for a minute the unbalanced schedule, RB Global looks at NY and says, 'We've built a perennial contender and have been three time Shield champions over the past seven seasons.  So NY hasn't figured out the playoffs and won an MLS Cup or a US Open Cup. Heck, we even made a US Open Cup final.'

Where we all see a dumpster fire, Red Bull sees a successful operation. That's why I seriously doubt that heads will roll in the front office or behind the bench.  As MF so eloquently put it, it's more a case of a window closing and a probable changeover in player personnel, in line with Red Bull's philosophy (younger, faster, pressing).

How about this lineup?

https://www.buildlin...38c092e24ae7204

How about Willian, Giroud, and David Silva are ages 31, 33, and 33.  It is completely against Red Bull Global philosophy.  You're possibly thinking that RB will adopt a 'Win MLS Cup at all costs' approach...they won't.  They didn't win it with Henry, Cahill, and Marquez.  Also, chances of Sims playing here next season are slim to none.

You cant say Kutler amd Rito are better than Buck.    Reese is third on the depth chart, absent whatever weird shit Murillo has been pulling.   When you get down to your 3rd guy in a position, any MLS team will be exposed.

Yes, agreed. If Duncan was healthy it would have been a different match. If Sims hadn't had to come out it also would have been a different match.

#1355754 What would it take for Red Bull to sell?

Posted by MTF on 21 October 2019 - 09:23 AM

While not near that point yet, It is absolutely headed in that direction at a fairly rapid clip

There are at least eight teams with worse attendance, whether those teams are putting up tarps or night. They have made the playoffs for 10 straight years. They have won three Shields in the past seven seasons. They have gone to a US Open Cup Final in the past three years. They have been a semi-finalist in the CONCACAF Champions League. Red Bull has invested in some of the country's best facilities. RBNY is running one of the country's best academies. This does not seem to be remotely a 'Chivas USA' situation.

Yes, they are playing moneyball...and arguably having decent success with it.  Yes, they haven't won a Cup, MLS or US Open. Yes, RB Global is looking at us as a feeder/development club. Yes, it's extremely frustrating. Yes, fans are starting to speak with their wallets and stay away.  However, there is no way that Red Bull is selling unless RED BULL wants to sell.  There is no way the league is going to intervene.  They would need to intervene in at least 10 other franchises!

Thomas Muller wants to leave Bayern in January.  I would expect that he'd score 15-25 goals playing as a striker in MLS, a definite need for NYRB.  Maybe Schweinsteiger could do us a solid and talk up playing in MLS and the US.  Timing would be perfect for the 2020 season.

#1354776 If Red Bull had to do it over

Posted by MTF on 01 October 2019 - 03:45 PM

Their general lack of interest or investment outside of the first few seasons at RBA says it all.

They've invested a fortune in New York: RBA, the training facility, RB2, the Academy. It's just that they haven't invested in the pieces the first team needs to put us in the best position to navigate a playoff tournament and win a Cup.  Their investment has primarily been toward player development, with the goal of ultimately producing talent for Leipzig. Fortunately it's led to a competitive side that's been able to win a few Shields, but unfortunately no Cups...and now the days of spending on an Henry or Cahill are over.

Yeah, that's a very high school/college level mindset.

Would obviously like us to win a title before NYC, so them losing in the playoffs is great. But judging our season a success because NYC also lost is just ridiculous.

Perhaps if the club was playing professional level soccer my mindset would match. Its not a serious comment. Short of a miraculous deep run into the playoffs the season cannot be judged successful at all. We cant beat Colorado at home...we are going into Atlanta and Yankee Stadium and having success? I guess with the knockout format anything can happen. I hold little hope that we are winning a Cup. It would be a small victory to at least see NYCFC fail in that endeavor. If they win a Cup before us (when?) it will be absolutely devastating for the Red Bulls in the metro area.

#1353498 Offseason hasn't started yet, but some people want cuts

Posted by MTF on 09 September 2019 - 06:26 AM

If Kaku, Murillo, and Long all go, Long and Murillo most likely gone. Kaku probably >50% chance

New GK
New RB-Parker-New CB-Lawrence
CCJ-New DM
RW??-New CAM- Royer
Jørgensen/white/Barlow/new #9

Possibly a 2 striker formation, pairing one of the HGs/Jørgensen with a target #9

Think it would be a folly to rely on Valot to be healthy and reclaim a regular starting X11 spot after two separate new surgeries, this team is infinitely better if Davis, Muyl, Buckmaster become valuable depth as the talent level in the league continues to increase.

Team is set at GK if Robles leaves with Meara and Louro. Meara could just as easily have been the starter all these years.

Maybe just start RB2 for the remaining matches.

#1352831 The Fire Chris Armas Thread

Posted by MTF on 27 August 2019 - 02:43 PM

The other factor that could come into play this off-season is players like Royer asking to leave if Armas hangs around.

Armas doesn't seem like the kind of coach that players are inspired to play for. If you are a veteran and you care about winning and you see what is happening with the coaching staff and penny-pinching owner, why would you stick around? Unless you are here making a great salary already, I don't see this team being an attractive place for veterans to come to.

Do you have any 'inside locker room information' on this, or is this just complete speculation on your part because supporters don't like Armas and you just assume the players who deal with Armas every single day must feel the same?  Have there been any concrete signs that a Royer or a Robles is considering leaving because they don't like the direction of management? Forget Kaku and Long who may be bitter because they want out to move to Latin America or Europe.  I'll speculate. I'm betting veteran players on this squad are saying 'we've made so many boneheaded mistakes this season, missed sitters, and spent time ball watching that, despite what I think about Armas and some of his poor tactical decisions, we should easily have an additional 8 or 9 points and be sitting first in the East.'  Sometimes players need to man-up too. Maybe the players love Chris.

Do you think Thierry Henry was inspired by Mike Petke? I don't.

#1352815 Why can't we just buy a team like LAFC & Atlanta?!

Posted by MTF on 27 August 2019 - 10:15 AM

Eric Alexander had the most starts both years, think that says enough but please state your case.

in 2013 we were deep enough to win the Shield but collapsed against Houston. In 2014 we made the Eastern Conference Finals. We were good enough to win the Cup.  You won't agree so pointless to debate.

#1352801 Why can't we just buy a team like LAFC & Atlanta?!

Posted by MTF on 27 August 2019 - 09:17 AM

And now we are a cheapskate moneyball club that only signs prospects from the academy or from friends of Hamlett/Red Bull, while Atlanta and LAFC very likely will not go in that direction.

They will continue to spend and fill their rosters with skill players that put them in a position to go far, while Red Bull is acting like a total farm team.

I know all MLS clubs are seller clubs but are any as blatant as Red Bull? It's like all they care about now is using the first team as practice for the scrubs to get them ready for Salzburg/Leipzig/being sold abroad.

You would think we are a doormat reading some of these posts. I don't mean to detract from the sad reality that we have never won an MLS Cup or a US Open Cup (three cup finals, zero wins), but this has been a winning club the past decade despite not spending the way we wish they would (Henry, Cahill, Marquez aside). The past six seasons have seen three Shields and a US Open Cup final, and we are on the verge of a 10th straight playoffs appearance and potentially a home playoff game.  If we hadn't dropped so many points needlessly this year, we'd be in first in the Eastern Conference right now.  I desperately wanted to win that US Open Cup in 2017 because despite it being the lesser Cup, I thought it might have broken the playoffs curse.  That would have been four trophies in six seasons. With regard to MLS Cup, I'd argue that corporate has built a team good enough to win it multiple times, but individual players have simply failed in some big moments because, that's so Metro.  Someone also alluded to the fact that this team never won an MLS Cup in all those years that the league was at 10 - 12 years. It only gets harder each year.  I look at all the investment Red Bull has made in this club and appreciate it. Every year we at least have a chance. Unfortunately our European owner probably looks at the Shield and says 'that's the real champion;' they probably view MLS Cup the same way Ibra does.  Winning one damn MLS Cup would do so much to change the mentality of this organization. I honestly think it will take a year like 2008, and come out of the blue.
