If I am Lewis Morgan, the first man I am looking to pass to is Vanzeir.

100% agree.

But what if he (also) sends the next 10 shots off target? He's 0 for 7 so far in 3 games/225 mins.

Anyway, he's currently on pace for 0 goals, 0 shots on target, and roughly 50 assists, so it will probably work out a little differently. 😄

Elf and ivo - the guys just had his best game ever for metro... just be happy. The team won 4-0 and he assisted on every goal.

I have very recently really doubted Vanziers pace and stamina, but he looked great out there on Saturday. That is him "turning it around".

Poking holes in his performance is really negative. The guy had an amazing game. He could have added a goal to his 4 assists, sure. But a Vanzier that is playing like he did on Saturday is a DP. Add those two goals, and consistently over the season, and you are talking MLS MVP over Messi. Thats not a reasonable requirement for me.

I'm happy with the win and agree that Vanzeir's overall performance was very good. I have given credit about the things he did well in this game - movement, assists, decision-making - in every single post I made about the game, and yes, that was an amazing game in terms of the scoreline, team performance and even Vanzeir's performance. Pointing out that he missed the target on his two shots is not negative, just reality.

I will hold off judgement on whether he's fully "turned it around" until it happens on a consistent basis and not claim 'mission accomplished' after a one-off 4-assist performance that will likely not be repeated ever again. He can easily shut naysayers up by scoring a few goals, or maybe putting the ball on target to start.

Are you really suggesting that players are not going to pass to Vanzier after a game when he had a team record assists in one game? All because he had two shots that went wide past the far post?

If he keeps missing the target in 1v1s for a few more games, I wouldn't be surprised. I'm also not surprised he keeps missing, but would love it if he turns that around.

Assists were great and so was his overall movement and decision-making, but there's certainly plenty of room for improvement in the main thing a forward is paid to do, scoring. I think Vanzeir would agree if you asked him.

I actually think it was fine -  a-ok. On the first, Amaya arguably should have been making the far post run and on the second, same deal with Gjengar....

Start at 2:10 to see the two Vanzier shots that went wide.

If vanzier keeps laying those sorts of balls across, other players are going to recognize it very soon, and immediately make the far post sprint.

Can't be sure if this is sarcastic or serious, but in case it is the latter, players obviously can't catch up to a missed shot unless they're offside or Marvel superheroes.

More likely, if Vanzeir keeps missing easy shots, the thing that happened at 4:20 will start happening more, i.e. people ignoring an open Vanzeir as if he's Barlow. (To be clear, that was a bad decision by Duncan and probably not an intentional consequence of Vanzeir not hitting the target multiple times earlier.)

The team's xG was 1.23, they scored 4 non-Vanzeir goals, but he also "should have had a hat-trick?"

Like...come on man. Be serious.

When Morgan's finishing inevitably comes down to earth, it would be nice if our DP forward can occasionally hit the target. 0 SOT on two 1v1s is a bit bad. Nice assists, though.
