#1430707 MLS TV moves to Apple

Posted by 67% Class on Today, 08:24 AM

Went to watch the Seattle game the next day. Apple would not let me watch the whole game. Just the 6 minute recap. Very disappointed.

I know you have to sort of click into the highlight to get the full game usually. Like you hold the button down or something wierd, then the full game pops up.

Not sure if that was you issue or not.

...This is why calling someone a monkey or saying monkey business is racist. Even if the intent was to describe a person as a clown. The origin comes from a messed up passed. That is why I said monkey is a racist term when used to describe someone or a group of people.

OK - so this is where I think we differ - its our terminology. I think there is a difference between racism versus the use of insensitive terms that can have a racist history. You seem to have one bucket for both of those.

To me, the intent of an individual is vital. Someone can use the most perfect, politically correct language and be effectively a segregationist neo-nazi in their beliefs and actions. Conversely, someone can use terrible words, but they genuinely judge each person as an individual.

Is the use of insensitive terms ok? No its not, but its certainly forgivable and understandable. Is the desire to create a segregationist neo-nazi state ok? No its not, and it is not understandable, and forgivable only with significant growth and atonement.

Yeah he said he didn't think it wasn't directed towards him and Dante said he mumbled it under his breath but he's not even facing the ref. Watching the video it certainly looks like he's probably mumbling under his breath towards the SJ player on the ground.

Again that's just my assumption and I'm not trying to convince you otherwise but saying everyone is literally in agreement it was towards the ref isn't true either.

Jeremy said he had to take Dantes word at face value and let the investigation figure it out because he couldn't be 100% sure about it.

Again, I'm not here to convince you or anyone else. Just giving my opinion that I think Dante is full of shit. The walking around and smirking like a douche bag during that situation is also why I feel that way.

Good convo. Its a tough situation.

For me, baring someone contradicting Vanzier's version, there seems to be agreement that his version is as plausible as anything else.

A racist term is a racist term. There is no grey area. Doesnt matter what the other race is. If people on this board, MLS, RBNY and the fan base want to support a racist or accept racism, that is your choice and your ethical values. However, dont make excuses to make yourself feel better. His contract should have been terminated but no one has the courage to do what is right. It's sad.

I appreciate the openness to discuss, but I disagree. Languages evolve. Great examples are the Cleveland Indians and Washington Redskins - in my youth, those were just names of teams - and I even read Ward Churchill books back then. Only recently have we been able to understand how the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Washington Redskins are different. And I believe they are. "Indian-giver" was a term that was widespread until recently and meant something largely independent of its original intent....

My point is that definitions change. Calling a white ref a stupid monkey or something isnt great, but it's much different than calling the white ref a stupid n-word or, for that matter, a black player a stupid monkey. The fact that those hypothetical instances fall on a spectrum of wrongness means that there is a gray area.

I think this is has been a great learning experience for me, though, and I hope for our fanbase as a whole.

Let Tolkin rest - have him meet the team in Miami.

I'm all for going for the Open Cup and that was the call to make, buuuuuut following the result and the energy expenditure for a loss, wish they would have rested!

I was bummed last night after the loss.  However, after a night of sleep and in the light of day, I am feeling optimistic.  Maybe because we lived through two and half years of Struber ball (like a battered spouse), but we looked dominate in the second half (particularly without Barlow).  There are definitely pieces missing and better goal scorers are necessary, but Troy and the team have some fight and I like that Troy went all in to try to win the game.  Vanier has vision and is fairly good in terms of positioning.  Luqi was in dangerous positions.  Even Dylan Nealis is playing consistently well, a result I did not think was possible.  There is much to take from this performance.

Yeah man. Should have been a win, but as soon as it went to PKs I knew we were losing. It just had that vibe. PKs are generally unfair.

Vanzier givieth, Vanzier taketh away

Side note: How fun is this stretch of 2-a-weeks with a new coach, partially rolled out system tweaks, and reinforcements incoming?

Whiparound shows suck for soccer. Red Zone works great because you can anticipate most scoring opportunities in football a few plays (read: minutes) before they happen. Goals in soccer don't happen that way unless they're penalty kicks.

Jumping around between soccer games where nothing is happening just kills the flow of watching it. Getting into the rhythm is like, half the point of watching a match.

Yeah. I agree totally with this. One of the reasons I like football, it can extend the drama.

Also, "Jets with the ball, 4th quarter, 1:20 left, down by 7, on their opponents 40 yard line" gives me the whole story. I know what the potential outcomes are.... Soccer can't be summaried like that.

My biggest gripe I've found with Apple is the schedule.... I used to watch a random MLS game from time to time. Now I feel like anytime another game is on, I'm already watching Metro. All the games overlap with the timezone change too, as opposed to NFL 1pm, 4pm EST times.

That and, I didnt think it would be true before season, but 7:30 is late for every game. There should be some 4:30 games.

I'd imagine they will reorganize the schedule for next year.

Team feels much wider to me than under Struber.

Big tie.

The team was rotating the ball. Conserving energy. Probing. Personally, I put that tie in the win column for Lesesne. They held on at the end.

Add Vanzier, Morgan, and Sneal or Reyes (moving Tolkin wide, not to take away from Omir) and I think thats a victory.

Felt the following players really stepped up - played "to their boundary": Stroud, Ndam, DNeal, Omir, Barlow.

I might get some hate on the Barlow one, but he's tracking back, applying pressure, connecting balls. Barlow>than Burke and Manoel, for what its worth. He applied pressure on numerous occasions that resulted in rushed balls and turnovers.

Harper and Tolkin were great, but I am starting to expect that from them.

Yearwood overcooked and undercooked too many balls. He's vertical in his runs and passes alot, which is great, but he looks clunky.

Its a tie, but I am excited for what the rest of the season brings.

Suspensions like that are enforced globally.

Maybe FIFA gives us a pass to make up for the Kaku non-call?

Article from K. Dyer: https://prosoccerwir...ild-marsch-mls/

Good article. I like the guy. Seems super confident and humble at the same time. Feels like Marsch 2.0, pending actual convincing results.

FWIW, and I went back to check, the first documented use of that was on Reddit, by me.   Though its such an obvious way to go, I'm sure many came up with it independently.

I don't want to take any credit for that.... I'm sure I saw it elsewhere - probably on reddit.

Kudos to RedBull Scouse.
