Using hindsight - knowing that Rost would retire, Vega and Robles no other major imports would sign here as of February 20th - should the team have picked up Bouna's option?

I think that bridge was already well burned that even if we offered he would have passed.
Why Soccer is better than Baseball:

Soccer is a game about a group of people working together to protect and obtain a common goal.

Baseball is a game with a bunch of babies just trying to run "home" and be "safe"

All burning bridges aside, no. He was a great shot stopper who was awful at every single other aspect of goalkeeping, and to top it all off he was good for at least a few horrific gaffes per season, some of which cost us points last season.

If one could indulge in hindsight I would have chosen another team to stake my fortunes on sixteen years ago.

You actually want me to long for Bouna? I'm not that desperate. He's ok, but not the one who wil take us to the promised land.

I never said that. To be honest I have no idea if I'd want Bouna back. That's why I made the poll. On one hand I don't know how comfortable I am going with two young unproven GK's but on the other Bouna had a decently sized cap hit, takes up an international slot, and was not completely reliable himself.

As a separate thought, is there any team with the potential for a disaster in GK like we have? I feel like every other team has at least one reliable (even if not great) option. But who the hell knows what we're going to get from Vuolo/Meara?

I like the guy, but he's too inconsistent. Not someone to pay big money to.

That said, i think going with Sutton last season instead of Bouna was a mistake. 20/20 hindsight and all. Inconsistent as he was, i don't think he'd have made some of the gaffes Sutton did.

No to Bouna. I can't taking holding my breath on every single goal kick anymore.

God NO to Sutton. I'd literally rather see an academy product or high school kid over that cocksucker.

In regards to your comment on potential GK disaster, I wouldn't be too worried. I'd bet good money that our management will bring in a veteran European goalie by mid-season the very latest.

The New York Red Bulls previously kicked around Major League Soccer as the MetroStars with limited success. But after transforming under a new banner in 2005, the Red Bulls have become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. The club has made leaps of progress since its previous incarnation and now has its focus on bringing the league title to New York. we don't need hindsight to realize that bouna was a solid goalie until backe ruined him.
The Red Bulls’ Estonian midfielder takes the honor for quote of the evening, indicating that the victory in LA was critical in order for his team “to show that we are not an easy cake.”

I'll take a ruined Bouna for a reinvented Richards any day of the week.

Bouna had his chance. Next.

Useless to bring Bouna back without Des.

We have these two kids. Let em be, see what they got. One of them turns out to be legit, it's a huge cap/roster/intl slot win for us.
