It doesn't as he is out of contract. Keep in mind, MLS teams can still trade (I believe) within the league for another month or so (give or take).

If RBNY were to theoretically offer him a minimum contract, then Columbus would have to pick up the difference of the original deal. But only what RBNY pays is against this year's salary cap.

That should be an easy signing then. Offer the min, pay him that, bring him in. There really shouldn't be much thought behind it.

The thought is that the guy wasn't happy not playing for Columbus so he could be a malcontent here and cause issues if he's not playing.  Gotta figure out if he's going to factor into the 18, if not then move along.

Source: RBNY has signed winger Dilly Duka today for the rest of 2017 and picked up his 2018 option.

Not the best source but i'd be shocked if it's not the case.

So who's minutes is he taking?

I think we should sign him due to royer's injury. I think he will fit well in rbny's system

That's what I'm saying.  It's like we have too many bodies when everyone's healthy.  Thinking Marsch likes him at one of those offensive mids and that includes:

Royer - Injured

Keita - Getting fitness, but had a slight injury too

Davis -

Mwheel - Not crazy about him in general but he needs minutes to develop considering he's only 21 years old

Etienne - Needs minutes and was starting to show well offensively

Maybe he's just going to get his chance while Royer is out, and if he does great then they'll try to keep him involved.  Otherwise will plant him on the bench. The Portland game does make a lot of sense based on the fact that these next two games will take a lot out of the guys.

In the longrun, this signing will hurt grella unless they get rid of someone

Grella will probably get one more shot next season (although I don't believe to start) and if he's healthy then he has a chance to make it work.

Meh.  Not against signing Duka, but it's a depth signing, on a already fairly deep squad, at best.  Not the kind of signing that makes you think we're frontrunners for MLS Cup.

is he a winger? CAM? where would be play in our 3-3-3-1 ? what about our 4-5-1?

Don't really see the need for this signing, but i guess the coaches saw something that Etienne/Muyl/Davis did not provide.  My guess is that Grella is gone next year either way.

Duka can play out wide or as a CAM. Probably fills Royers spot until Keita is ready then will be used as a super sub when we need a CAM. I think he and Kljestan could be a very solid partnership.

Depth option that can play wide or centrally in our midfield setup.

Its not that unimaginable that Duka is a superior player to Muyl, honestly. I'd just prefer to see Veron if we need a goal late in the game.
