Kaku was signed in the winter 2018 window. If this one ends without a big splash DP signing it will be the sixth window in a row in which this team hasn't signed anyone big to bolster the attack.

Dude, Mike Grella was a nobody... at lease give these guys a chance. Over the last decade redbull has been killer. We have never had this level of management /coaching expertise. I see this as an attempt to return to Marsch days.  If we are going to get a cup, I think the next 2-3 years is a good window. I also don't think we are done with signings yet this year. 
 
Add to that - if any one of Carmona, Estrella, Harper, Fabio, joins Clark in going eastward after 2021 season the floodgates are open for Young DPs to pick RBNY over other options....      

I'm not writing any of these kids off. I'm writing off the strategy of trying to win an MLS Cup on the backs of young players.

I view these players as supplemental signings, which is what Grella was. Someone who can come in and possibly help the first team, but not the centerpiece of an attack.

This team needs to sign a player on the level of Vela, Bou, Zelarayan, Lodiero, etc. to build around. The Grella era was built around BWP and Kljestan. Neither of those guys were world beaters but they had the pedigree to make the team go places. A bunch of kids doesn't have that.

We couldn't consistently sell out games with Henry and JPA. His directive isn't to sell out the arena, it's to field a competitive squad while grooming young players to be sold at a profit.

You are right about his overall directive, but I do think signing marketable players is a part of Thelwell's job.

I don't know of any teams that do well with wheeling and dealing players yet draw no fans. Part of being a successful and profitable sports franchise is drawing crowds and getting fans to buy concessions, merchandise and other stuff. Thelwell has to give the marketing team something to work with and he does that by signing stars, much like every other competent sports GM.

Even historical selling clubs like Dortmund and Atletico Madrid have notable players on their roster. They aren't just trying to play young prospects only hoping to sell them in 1-2 years. They have a mix of stars and prospects, RBNY have only the latter.

And I wouldn't give up yet on the attendance at Red Bull Arena. Henry and JPA were here when soccer wasn't as big in the U.S. There is no way someone like Ibra (if Red Bull signed him instead of Galaxy) wouldn't be a huge draw.

Maybe Thelwell came here to collect a paycheck and put his kids in American private school? If that is the status with his family.

Every single one of the names that RBNY has been linked to this off-season has been thoroughly underwhelming.

How can they possibly expect any fans to buy tickets for games when the stadium reopens if its just USL prospects and kids that they want to send to Salzburg and Leipzig? No pizazz, no excitement, no winning.

Maybe I'm the only one but I don't give a shit about Salzburg and Leipzig. But it seems like the club doesn't care and is going full farm team. RBNY look like an embarrassment right now.

Hopefully Struber does better than Armas and gives the fans a more exciting product on the field.

Big names was the wrong term for me to use here. I meant prominent players within MLS.

Anyone who is an avid watcher of the league knows that Zardes, Zelarayan, Santos (if he played), Ruidiaz, Lodiero etc. are some of the better talents league wide. Same with guys like Valeri, Rossi, Pozuelo, Pryzybylko, Gil, Bou, Quintero....these guys aren't huge in a name sense like Higuain or Chicharito but they are huge within MLS.

Red Bull has nobody like that. I wouldn't put Kaku and Royer near that group anymore.

There's just no reason to make the effort to go to games if the club continues to be cheap and act as a farm team for European leagues. Tom Barlow and Dru Yearwood are not going to put butts in seats.

Watching the game tonight it's almost like watching another league...two teams with big name, big money signings going at it. Just a different level than the crap that Red Bull is trying to sell to this fan base.

The anthem takes on a different meaning for everyone.

If Reggie wants to kneel, that's fine.

If fans want to boo because they don't like it and have another view of the anthem and what it represents, that's fine as well.

For him to say it's "disgusting" though -- he's completely missing the mark. Reggie Cannon doesn't get to decide what the anthem means for anyone but himself.
