Sims also needs to start putting the ball in the back of the net.

I know he hasn't done that once since the 2014-2015 England U18 season (per Wikipedia) but the guy has to start producing.

Or maybe we need Brian White back and Sims to feed him and Royer.

I don't think age is a requirement for a good captain. It just needs to be someone the team respects and admires. Of the 10 field players my guess is it should be Kemar.

agree.  He talks like one as he said at the All Star game he appreciates that environment because the guys are competative and bring it even if it is a 1 off team.

Maybe Kemar should start yelling at NYRB players like he did to Villalba

Prudential and Panasonic would be some of the least offensive looking sponsors we could have on a jersey. Prudentials home base is in Newark and Panasonic has a big office there as well.

Prudential would be great because we are a ROCK at home.  Oh wait a minute....

#1352978 The Fire Chris Armas Thread

Are you going to tell me that it was the players who last season decided to abandon the press vs Atlanta and pretty much cost us a title? Did the players completely change tactics numerous times this season when we were controlling a match and make the team do a 180? Are the players the ones making subs that make no sense whatsoever like taking out Kaku for BWP when common sense says having your star playmaker and star striker on the pitch together is clearly optimal? Not everything is Armas'es fault but at this point he is a pretty big negative.

Adams leaving is the biggest factor
Jesse and mike and backs made plenty of odd decisions
Want to go back to metro stars revolving coach method?

Last team to repeat SS was LAG in 2010/11
Armas need to improve in the next 6 games AND the players need to improve.

After Cummings scored that goal, me and the guy sitting next to me both agreed it was the best goal scored in RBA up to that point in time.

this one was pretty good and was for us.

#1352797 Why can't we just buy a team like LAFC & Atlanta?!

Posted by Metrohoboken on 27 August 2019 - 07:37 AM

lets lay the blame where it needs to be at the Metrostars.  Highly unpopular opinion but hey.

Plenty of opportunity to spend $$$$$$$ to take a 10 team league.  They did it to some extent bringing in players like Donadoni, Branco and Matteaus and others.  Could have spent a little more and sealed it up.

Red Bull (hate or indifferent to the brand) gave everyone what they wanted - excellent development academy and stadium AND big time players in Henry, Rafa and Cahill who also didn't get it done (robbed by no red card v NE).  Worked for LAG - us not so much.

Based on that RB decided to double down on academy and scale back $$.  Which was unfortunately the wrong choice as 1-2 more players likely would have made the difference over the last 3 years.

They did go get us the missing piece of a high level winger.

The coach, although new and making some odd choices, has switched up the formation to bring out even more offense.

Lets see if he can be productive in his limited run and the DEFENSIVE PLAYERS CAN GET their act together.

Now is the time to spend more $$$ AND develop.  Lets see if they do it this off season with the change in the territory rules AND the appointment of Ralf.

Lets go Red Bulls.

game states

https://www.mlssocce...s-after-week-25

I don’t know what to say about RBNY in the big picture other than to repeat last week’s thought: They are going to thoroughly dominate a 20-minute stretch in the first half — they did it against this week against both D.C. United and NYCFC — and they have to walk out of that stretch with a multi-goal lead. They haven’t figured out how to stop the momentum coming straight back into their face, so they absolutely have to figure out how to capitalize on the early chances

One reason they dominated early on Saturday was they mixed up their pressing scheme. Everyone knows that RBNY press, but their coaching staff has not received enough credit over the years for how they mix up their pressing schemes from game to game. Their defensive movements are rarely the same two weeks in a row. This week, it was particularly unique. They used Daniel Royer as second striker with Bradley Wright-Phillips to close down NYCFC’s center backs; Kakutook the first defensive mid; Alex Muyl closed down the left back. It would be natural for think that their right back, Anton Tinnerholm, would be wide open, except RBNY used defensive midfielder Vincent Bezecourt to slide all the way over. NYCFC couldn’t figure it out and couldn’t get out of their half for the first 20.

Also good right up on NYCFC how they used the compact field to their advantage and played 4-2-2-2 with ensuring they conected short passes and competed for 2nd balls.

Apparently Bobby Warshaw saw Brian White in a boot at Yankee Stadium.

Needs for this game

- Win

- Sims play very well and contribute (looked promising on that untacked pinstriped  carpet)

- BWP get a freaking goal.  MLSsoccer commentator Charlie Davies said coming back from extended absense that as a striker it likely takes you at least 3 games of 60-70 minutes apearances to get and get rid of the rust and match fitness levels when coming back from injury) even beyond all the sub appearances.

- Back line to get there S together.

Maybe bring in Bobby Knight to scream at them?

Or show them stat that ATL is at 13 shutouts for the year with 6 games left to our 16 from last year.

- play Murillo 1 more game.  Need to get his head straight.  Not great by him but Morales is the size of and as tricky as Tyrian Lannister

Royer-BWP (assuming BW still hurt)
Kaku
RZA-Sims

CCJ
Taxi-Long-Parker-Murillo
Robles

- HIGH PRESS THE WHOLE GAME.

Ownership.... They don't press the other owners on letting them get high profile additions because they simply don't want to make those types of investments like Atlanta and LAFC and Sounders and Toronto and Montreal have made... Those owners are spearheaded by individuals that have emotional attachment to wanting their club win...

The Red Bull GmbH want to just have no names because they want their brand to get the attention. They just are happy with not being at the bottom. If they could win with no names that's best for them. Keeps wages and overhead down and doesn't steal the spot light from their philosophy of "energy and excitement and wings" and all the other bs they want to project onto their drink...

But in this era of the sport, that's not going to win shit

yeah but why would they invest in the academy then?

Just get players from other USL teams.  no threat of relegation

That being said there choice to not spend on a high level winger for the last 5 years likely cause us a miss few final appearances if not cups.

Also, the lack of aggressiveness in signing young talent like ATL and LAFC is also disappointing.  LAFC are stacked and able to add Bryan Rodriguez (who looked great last night) is depressing.

rewatching the highlights.

I think Morales helped draw that PK and Murillo bit.

I don't think Morales was going to get off a great shot or would have need to throw a ridiculous move to do so.  Granted the guy has skill and probably could have juked Murillo and Robles.

Robles had him block from the front and then although Morales got the jump and had a 3 yard lead on Murillo, Murillo closed the distance and had him covered. Morales didn't even get set to shoot or make a move. he sort slightly slowed.    Murillo had him covered with his long legs and also pulled his left shoulder back.  That and the leverage of being 8 inches taller and 50 lbs heavier did the trick.  If Murillo stays a little calmer he would have been in good position.

Also what kinda lax a daisical defneding was that by Long on Castellanos in the 2nd when he hit the post.  Come on Aaron.

4 yellows ibnt he fist half.  Morales should have seen yellow for chi=opping down CCJ from behind on our goal.  He later gets a yellow.

But then again NYC hit the post 3x and Robles had 3 great saves so.

I guess Armas thought BEZ offerred more defense that Omir but I don't rate BEZ that much and would have preferred Omir to play.  Or would have played a tired RZA or Davis over BEZ.   Maybe they were wiped out from the heavy field in DC.

We got outplayed top to bottom last night. Not sure a healthy / rested 11 would have made a difference. We were fortunate not to lose by 3 or more

Not quite we looked great for first 15 and then changed tactics - unfortunately
And the last 20 min with sims on we looked good
Granted game should have been like 6-3

#1352482 Random Player Name Thread 2019

Posted by Metrohoboken on 24 August 2019 - 08:32 AM

Ulysses Llanez

Plays for Wolfsburg u19 3 matches 6 goals 1 assist and is USMNT future player surely...

Would be a could catch for NYRB

I'd also say bring in Sebastián Soto from second division Bundesliga

Scouting for Leipzig now?
Please kid skipped MLS to sign Bundesliga contract-

Why would Soto come to us rather than go to PSV or 1st division

Forward slot is 4 deep plus Omar Sowe signed to USL -

But definitely good players
