This is a question I wonder about...  I have been a fan of METRO going back to the Big Mama days (2002). I have had seasons tickets from 2003 to 2020 and attended 15+ home games and several road matches each year.  Since, I have given up my season tickets and go when i want.  Last year, I was out to matches 5 or 6 times This year, I have been to RBA once (Sadly, saw them in Philly on Sunday). 

 

From huge, never miss a match traveling fan to my current state of apathy.  Watching on TV is a chore. I fast forward though chunks of the games. Occasionally, I have decided to save the time and just watch the highlights.   

 

Beyond that, no friends nor family go to matches anymore and only 1 of dozens evens still follows the club. 

 

My question (sorry for the long set up), do we know how much of the fan base built during the Petke/Jesse years has deteriorated?  Clearly, the fan base has gone backwards, but are there any hard numbers available to demonstrate this apathy? 

I don't have an answer to your question. Just wanted to say that I have thought the same recently. I have been a fan since 2010. There are so many people that I used to see in the South Ward and on road trips out to New England/Philly/DC that I just never see anymore. Haven't in a few years starting in 2018/2019. These were diehards, not casuals.

Yeah on the bridge into Newark there were a couple. I threw a hearty "Fuck Messi, let's go Red Bulls" at em.

Yes, I've watched several there. Wasn't always on right away, but they are quick to put it on if you ask. They have the Apple TV plan.

I'm 99% sure I will be going there today - just need to wrap something up for work in time but it's looking good. 

Hoppe on loan to San Jose through next summer, while we get this child for 11 games. Hoppe is EXACTLY what we need in terms of profile, ability, and (sadly) low cost. He can do what they ask of Barlow but actually at a competent level. Unbelievable. 

Watching this game has been fun. We are such an afterthought in this league. No buzz or fun on gameday at RBA anymore.

Many Belgium commentators and Europeans have also said that the word can be use as a racist slur. Context on how and where the word was used is everything.

Plus, it was already a big story in belgium of lukaku being called monkey and commentators from European backgrounds were saying that was racist.

That is like saying I used the n word but it was toward a white guy so everything is good.

You honestly believe the best avenue for change is to convince a majority of government legislators to pass specific laws to penalize the New York Red Bulls for not giving a Belgian professional soccer player a long enough suspension for saying the word monkey in the presence of black players?

 

 

Also, what tax benefits does Red Bull get from the state or local government?  They got sued by Hudson County for millions of dollars.  Nobody is giving tax payer funded giveaways to the Red Bulls.

6 games is plenty for this and the supporters wanting to sack Struber and exile Vanzeir over this have completely overreacted in an attempt to show everyone that they are not racist. Struber should be gone and it will have nothing to do with this incident. 

Personally for me, if you embarrass the club, there's the fucking door and good riddance.

There's thousands and thousands of professional soccer players in the world. They found this guy, who in all honesty the vast majority of us had no clue who he even was. Loan him out or cut him, and move on.

With our track record he's probably gonna be a bust anyway.

More importantly he embarrassed our team and should be shown the door. Same goes with Struber.

If he called the ref a monkey for not giving a red or the SJ player a monkey for the horrible challenge, I don't feel embarrassed. That is a term in some languages to call someone stupid. This is the problem with not providing the real story once the dust settles.

No excuse to not start Vanzeir in this one. It's time.

Vanzeir's finish was validation for all fans complaining about cheap-ass ownership refusing to spend money on proven players. We bought an in-prime striker who has proven himself in a better league than MLS. All we can ask for. Doesn't need to be Henry, but proven talent and not just kids and retreads, please.

We're asking for one spot start here until Vanzeir can be up to speed to go a full 90. If he can't handle that, what kind of damaged goods did we sign? 

Otherwise, put Edelman in for Barlow, go with a double pivot of Edelman/Amaya with CCJ in front of them and go small up front with Morgan/Manoel/Luquinhas. Enough with Barlow wasting our time tuning in to game where we are playing with 10.5 men. 

No more Barlow FFS, plz.
