#1344580 Thierry Henry linked to RB coaching role

Posted by RedBullScouse on Yesterday, 08:34 AM

This part is what would get me excited. Who has a better chance of convincing RBG to spend more money on our team? Chris Armas or Thierry Henry? lol

There would have to be a Tata Martino element to it as well, where Titi could convince a certain caliber of player to come here who might not otherwise be so inclined

#1344578 Some people remember past coaches

RSL has a bunch of scrubs and they are over achieving where they should be. On paper they had no business making the playoffs last year. If Petke had Metro from 2015-2018 this club would have won at least one MLS Cup. They would have beaten Chivas De Gaudalajara in the 2018 CCL semifinals.

Successful coaches generally fall into two categories - the ones who get the most out of low-budget talent (the save-them-from-relegation guys), and the guys who can handle top tier talent (the win championships guys).    Petke is, for me, clearly in the former group.   Its the reason you see guys like David Moyes and Brendan Rodgers fail when given a chance at a big money club.

I doubt its happening, but I'm also not against it.   Yes, he failed miserably at Monaco, but that was probably too much too soon for him.   He's a really, really smart guy, and he's no doubt been very thoughtful about and learned from whatever he did wrong there.    He's passionate about this team.   Also, we have a very structured system to support the coaches.  Also, no doubt if he came it would be to some degree on his terms, which would almost certainly include some budget for bringing in players.

Apparently Marsch wants Armas in Salzburg.

That would be a very convenient solution

#1344463 Abang's loan terminated

He scored two of them in the last match, on pretty easy set-ups (one corner, one touch in the box)... then in true Abang fashion, he received a red card for throwing his fist out at an opponent's face when he had the ball. Good riddance.

I'm so happy we don't have anyone here getting stupid, unnecessary red cards like that

Garber needs to maintain the image of parity so he can sell expansion franchises in small markets to fund the enterprise. ...

That's an MLS 1.0 attitude, which ATL kinda crushed.   I think these new teams would rather be allowed to spend their way to the top, and its the old guard who want to pinch pennies under the pretense of "parity."

I think Taxi had one assist last year....

And for what it's worth, we lost to Atlanta because we bailed on the philosophy we used for the last several years...

I don't care about Taxi's assist stats... I see how often and how quickly the ball moves up the field because of him, and how aggressively he can press in the opposing third because he has such extraordinary recovery speed.   No matter what Armas has said or will say, I refuse to believe we abandoned that style against ATL for any reason other than having Lade on the field, against an exceptionally strong opponent, in a huge game.

So what were you advocating before this year?  Another starting caliber outside back to be added?  Which we basically added with Duncan getting healthy?

If you wanted Lade gone then say so.  I don't remember a lot of people saying that but I could accept that opinion because he's very athletically and physically limited.

I think Duncan is really good so I'd have no problem with him playing over Murillo.  He's not as good as Murillo is with the ball but at least he'll defend someone and work his ass off.

Taxi has to start staying healthy... Guy is missing a lot of games and now he's getting paid so it's a bit tougher to accept that.

Bottom line though is that we are towards the bottom of the league in goals scored while playing a pretty easy schedule and one of those games had 4 goals.  It's a good indicator that our biggest issue is not with the outside backs.

I think you underestimate how much of our offense goes through the fullbacks, especially Taxi.   And without Adams, our fullbacks are being asked to defend more, which exposes Murillo (and Taxi's backup).  Without Taxi and Murillo being able to push the attack, we're toothless.  We are simply too dependent on Taxi to rely on Lade as his backup.   The ATL game proved that.  Sure, we could have upgraded at RM, which would have made us less vulnerable, but we didn't do that either.

Lade regularly gets 1,300-1,400 minutes  season.  That amount of minutes is worth spending money on, even in a cap'd league.

I am not sold on RZa , maybe moving him up forward might help because he is sorely lacking on  defense

I'm not buying it that Rza is terrible on defense.   I like him as a 6.   He gets in passing lanes to break things up, and can connect to the attack.  He's small, but not much smaller than Dax.   He's got Parker and Long behind him.   Taking everything into consideration, I am putting it on Armas' inability to define and train roles for Rza and whomever is next to him.    Are we going with two 6's?   Holding and attacking center mids?  A diamond?   Some sophisticated dynamic situational hybrid formation?   You can't tell from minute to minute what anyone's role is out there.   When everyone on the team is suddenly looking bad, it is what it is.   It's the coach.

Chicago Fire is going to move back to Soldier Field. Why? When they have their own SSS. I know its just outside of the city but it isnt in the middle of nowhere.

It really is kinda in the middle of nowhere, and this is just a first step to getting a downtown SSS location.

This is not the opponent or stadium we need right now.    We need someone easy, at home, to get our confidence up.  Someone like Minnesota, or Orlando, or.... NVM

Ill over exaggerate here...but not by much:

If we played a 3 man backline of Taxi Long and Parker with CCJ in front of them we could just throw all the other guys into the attack and still win a ton of games.

I'm not so sure.   A huge portion of our attack, when we were playing well, came out of Taxi.   If we force him to stay home, I don't see who would make up for what he brings to the offense.

I guess, but what happens when BWP drops into midfield, since it's not a strength of his?

I have to agree with you on this.   I don't care what his assist numbers are, when he drops back, the game is over.

Tear down the upper deck?

- Make the southward one level, all the way up, Kop style

- Make the upper level west corners open bar / sports book / hospitality areas

- Add cupholders to all east side lower bowl seats
