#1340629 2019 Depth Chart

Posted by RedBullScouse on 15 February 2019 - 12:54 PM

The only winger we know 100% is going to start is Royer. Behind him, and on the right, is a jumble of Muyl, Etienne, Valot, Bezecourt, Ivan, Epps, Mines and Fernandez.

I don't really hate that, as I think they're all above average MLS players or guys with potential to be great MLS players, so let them fight it out in training. It'd be great to have a sure-shot, game changing right winger, but that's clearly not in the cards. I'd rather have a tough competition with an handful of solid guys rather than the MLS alternative of a couple of mediocre dudes making a black hole on the field.

I wonder who they look at as a back-up for Kaku.

I've always thought the competition for spots thing is over rated.  You don't get to this level without being driven, and I'd rather have one All Star and a decent backup than 6 pretty good guys fighting it out..

I doubt they even remove seats. We'll probably seen some tarps on some sections. Maybe even have some ads on them. A nice throw back to the giant stadium days lol

I have no idea what would require them to do even that, except if they briefly need some scaffolding or something to install the new video boards.   What other work are they doing?

I understand there's a reason Tyler is in Europe and Rza is not.  Also, he's fragile, and Casseres behind him hasn't proven anything.  But Rza maybe a Dax level #6, and may be better than Dax or Tyler connecting to the attack.   I'm also the eternal optimist that thinks we are keeping our powder dry , and can  pull the trigger on someone in the summer if it all goes to hell and we know better exactly what we need most.

RZA isn't a replacement for anybody though. He was on the team last year. And injuries always happen. We cant just assume everyone will be healthy this year

He's a replacement for Adams.  Adams left, and he will replace him.  And Casseres is a replacement for Rza.   I agree about the injuries,  but if you look at he roster for the playoffs, and look at the roster now, it is very arguable that we are meaningfully worse... and with Jorgensen, we may even be a little better.

I just talked to my rep. They can mail you hard tickets from your season ticket account or they can print out tickets on your account at the box office. I dont like mobile tickets. What if my phone breaks while I get too drunk while tailgating, what if my battery dies, what if I have to send my ticket out to somebody and he/she doesnt have a smartphone or refuses to download the Ticketmaster/ RB app.

I am also skeptical why they will be temporarily removing seats in the seating bowl to do the renovations that have nothing to do with the seating bowl. Maybe this is an excuse to lower the capacity of the stadium to increase ticket prices.

Even if they if they don't  want to print out tickets... what was wrong with my Red Card?

It's worse than complacency. If anything, we got worse. We lost arguably our best player and we only signed a few depth pieces. We have a worse roster than last year. There is no arguing that.

Its bad, but it's not that bad.   Rza is almost almost, if not,  a 1 for 1 replacement for Adams, and we have good depth behind him.    If this Jorgensen kid is anything like he's being made out to be, we FINALLY have an option behind/ next to BWP.   Getting Valot, Duncan and Taxi back healthy are upgrades to what we had in the playoffs... upgrades that could very easily have proved the difference.   Yes, we absolutely should have added someone in Muyl's spot, but Valot was starting ahead of Muyl before he got hurt.

Not gonna happen

No amount of marketing could get any significant crowd to Harrison on a Wednesday night in February.

Beckham, with his 18 goals, did more for MLS than Josef Martinez or almiron. Without Beckham we probably wouldn't even see guys like almiron and Josef come to MLS. If anyone outside our team is reserving of a statue, it's probably him.

Exactly.    As cringeworthy as it was to see grown ass men in NJ wearing his LAG jersey,  for MLS 1.0, he was massive.    The league would not be where it is, maybe never would be, without his impact.    And that 4-3 game in GS was hellu fun.

No, no MLS team has done this before.

No MLS team has built a statue for an opposing team's owner before?

I still don't really know who to blame for the failures of the 4-2-2-2, but it would always result with Sacha and BWP playing way too far wide to actually do anything.  It's a weird combo that I'm not sure would work with Kaku.

BWP usually goes into late TH14 mode, dropping back and a little wide, trying to be a playmaker instead of a finisher.    For some reason it looked better when Titi did it.

Aren't we getting a wee bit ahead of ourselves? We don't even know if he is signed and he might be here to play wing for all we know, yet we have already decided his fate in 3 years. LOL

that's what we do

#1340237 Why did we lose to Atlanta?

Posted by RedBullScouse on 06 February 2019 - 04:09 PM

Don't get me wrong, I love Kemar, he's the best fullback I've ever seen in MLS. But he's still just one player, and one not named Leo Messi. We were OK when he missed games in the regular season, and we were OK when other key starters were missing too.

Our coach rolled out a game plan our team hadn't used since 2014, if we're talking about the entire team suddenly losing their swagger then that's the one and only answer for me.

It seemed that he rolled out that game plan - which he would never admit - because of Lade being there instead of Kemar.

I recalled a small transfer fee (~$100k-$200k), I've seen others recall that it was a free transfer. Definitely don't think it was as high as $1.5M to $2M but I can't find a single article that actually reported a fee.

A few different Danish papers are reporting $15M Danish krone which is even a bit more than $2M

"That trip goes to New York, where we have to hope, that goes the OB boy better than Vejle player Brian Nielsen, who got the chance in 2010, but got smashed his stay by a nasty knee injury."

right.. the knee injury is what did him in here

Though that was in an MLS with a decidedly lower average player quality.

From what I saw last year, our typical 17 year old scores in their first 17 minutes.   While wearing #17.

Ivan didn't see a lot of playing time, but it's troubling that he (and Rza) couldn't get on the field during the big games down the stretch last season. They were not near the top of the pecking order.

Rza was behind Adams.     He was 2nd in the pecking order for that position (his best position) which is quite near the top of the pecking order.  As near as you can get, actually.

Ivan remains a curiosity, considering how long we had him on trial to evaluate before pulling the trigger to sign him.
