I think the 4-2-3-1 suits this team better than the 3 man backline.

I just think that 3 man back line with Collin, Parker, and Long is going to give up so little. Plus we generally get the better of play when we go with that formation. Now we just happen to have the CBs to really make it work.

agreed, but this is also an int'l window. we'd have the above 3 to start in a 5-4-1, depth would be Ndam Redding Politz, what with both Murillo and Fidel out? it sucks, but maybe 4-2-3-1 is utilized because of int'l callups.

I know they are still in the process of rebuilding Redding but would have to hope that he could play one of those spots in a pinch.  He has MLS experience.  Or if one of those guys get hurt, then make the shift to the 4-2-3-1.  That formation is good.  Going back to last year I can't remember many games where we didn't get the better of the play.  Last year we gave up goals, but that's just because we didn't have CB's with enough quality.  Now Collin is back and Parker is awesome.

I will never hate us in the 4-2-3-1 though, so not going to have a huge issue if we go to it.  Plus, it's good that we can switch up because other teams have to prepare for both.

I think it really depends on who Jesse views as a part of our best 11 to determine which formation I like us in better.  Last year I was not a fan of the 4-2-3-1 mainly because we didn't have the athletes in the midfield positions to make it work when establishing the press.  This year we have the horses for both.

If Jesse wants to play Davis, Kaku (centrally), Royer, and Adams in the midfield with Rza on the bench then 3-3-3-1 is the way to go.  Davis isn't quick enough to play wide in 4-2-3-1 but does the tucked in winger role in 3-3-3-1 well.  However, if he is willing to play Kaku wide and/or maybe start Etienne out wide then we can play the 4-2-3-1 well.

Royer - Kaku - Muyl
Davis - Rzats
Lade - Parker - Long - Duncan
Robles

Mera, Collin, Beze, Valot, DE7, Rivas, last spot is probably someone who can play emergency RB and LB.

Still starting Muyl over DE7, Rivas, inanimate carbon rods?

Eh, I like Muyl and Im convinced he will start the first leg against Chivas so that would mean he will start this with the backups going at Orlando.

I thought that Rzats got pushed around and our-muscled in the RSL game, i was disappointed in his performance.

Weather was awful, short rest in RSL... I throw that game out as an outlier until proven otherwise.

Minnesota are going to missing a lot of guys and they have way less depth than us.  Their defense is especially decimated.

“We could be out virtually half the team for the weekend,” said Head Coach Adrian Heath. “So it’s never ideal, but I always talk about it: One door closes, another door opens for somebody else. You know, we’ve got a lot of faith in the draft picks that we have, and that’s why whether it’s Carter [Manley], Brent Kallman — training really hard, waiting for his opportunity — they’re going to get an opportunity.”

Anything less than a 4x0 win like we did against Portland will be a failure.

they have 3 int'l callups, in addition to 4 guys being out due to injury. no USL reserve team, so assuming lotsa draft picks will be playing.

4-2-3-1, clog their midfield up, press the defenders, should be an "easy" game.

This is a must win game given our squad depth and the quality of our opposition. Anything but three points would be a real disappointment.
