#1266964 Metro - Scum Game Thread

Posted by UpTheRe'Bulls on 30 August 2015 - 08:26 AM

I rode the Acela for the first time yesterday, and I was surprised to see an article about the RBNY-DCU rivalry in Amtrak's "in-flight" magazine Arrive.

A few highlights:

"While fans in the Pacific Northwest claim the competition between the Portland Timbers and the Seattle Sounders is the most vibrant, only one rivalry is as old as the league itself."

"One highlight of the rivalry was when DC's Alecko Eskandarian -- a New Jersey native -- scored against the Red Bulls at Giants Stadium, grabbed a can of Red Bull from a teammate, took a swig and spit it on the turf."

Agoos: "At the start of the league, the MetroStars came in with a lot of swagger because they believed they were to league's first superclub, being from New York and all."

Petke: "It's just one of those things that's good for a young league like us, to have a rivalry. It gets fans and the team really pumped up. When I was coaching the Red Bulls, I made sure to walk around the locker room leading up to this game to the young guys and the new guys saying, 'Listen, you know, if you don't know anything about this rivalry, get on your computer, research it, or ask me. I don't want you showing up that day and thinking it's just like any old game.'"

Byline is Jack Bell.

Hilarious how this thread turned negative! Remind me not to win one of those lifetime achievement awards at work because in 24-48 hours all it does is bring scrutiny and ridicule!

LOL, same guy who wrote the ESPN piece at the beginning of the thread. One-man echo chamber!

One of a major league sports team's most popular quality players is departing. That's inconvenient from a PR standpoint. But when have fans EVER before first learned about it because some other player walked onto the field wearing that guy's number??

#1243256 Need to sign two starting CBs ASAP

I don't feel comfortable that the team's center back starters will come from: Ronald Zubar, Andrew Jean-Baptiste, Ibrahim Sekagya Damien Perrinelle and Matt Miazga.  Do others share this concern?  Which two among these five should start the majority of games for the team to be a champion contender?  I like Matt Miazga but I think he needs to demonstrate consistent solid play first in situations when the outcome of the game is likely known.  What moves (if any) should the Red Bulls still make?

Definitely agree. On top of that, we're getting a constant barrage of hype about our exciting new uptempo energy-drink-inspired attack. You know what that means. Uptempo attack, as opposed to a more discipline-oriented possession style, means we'll be giving up possession more often, meaning our back line will be under siege many more times per match than usual. I don't want THIS back line to be under siege more times than usual.

He'll be employed in the NYC FC system by February

#1238913 Better align with Red Bull global football apparatus

Posted by UpTheRe'Bulls on 13 January 2015 - 12:14 PM

Aligning with the RB global apparatus = Brian Nielsen

Aligning with the NYC FC global apparatus = Frank Lampard

Aligning with what has worked for RBNY recently = Mike Petke

Case closed.

#1237132 Five Years (lyrics update)

Posted by UpTheRe'Bulls on 07 January 2015 - 11:09 PM

Pushing through the Ironbound, so many supporters sighing
News had just come over, we have a five-year plan from Ali
Blog guy wept and told us, loyalty was really dying
Cried so much his face was wet, then I knew he was not lying
I heard Empire men, Viking men, and MetroFanantic
I saw Solli, Woly, Fraser in a panic
You can pull up to the warehouse, there'll be parking room to spare
We used to cram so many cars to fit everyone in there
And all the Taco Truck people, and all the El Pastor people
And all the Kearny Army people, and all the MetroStars people
I never thought the club would bleed so many people

South Ward lads went off their heads, already making a tifo
No Henry to pick us up, RBA is in grief now
Petke with the Legend tag, fixed his stare at his sudden pink slip
We all knelt and kissed the feet of our coach, and a beer
Was raised at the sight of that
I think I saw you at a NYC FC game, wearing powder blue seems so wrong
Smiling and waving and raising your scarf, don't think
You wanted to be in this song
And it was cold and it rained so I felt like the Scotsman
And I thought of Mike and I wanted to get back Robin
Their guts, their goals, the halftime pep talk
You dismiss him, you're delusional, I want you to walk

We've got five years, stuck on my eyes
We've got five years, what a surprise
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
But a 1-year contract, that's all you've got

It would be awesome to have at least one kiosk with local microbrew features -- Flagship from Staten Island, Bittings from Woodbridge, Gaslight from South Orange, etc.
