#1444727 Is Vanzeir a bust?

Posted by RedBullScouse on Yesterday, 04:04 PM

I have been and continue to be confident in Vanzeir's ability.    But he's approaching Chuck Knoblauch levels of the yips in front of goal and needs to start putting it in the back of the net.     This was a great game, but the weakened opponent and the wild weather make it very much a one-off.

I'll be that guy.... As outstanding as the four assists were, he needs to score in the opportunities he's given.

The only ones I miss from the MLS exports are Omir, White, Gutman and Stroud. Nashville needs to go all out to trade for Derrick Etienne! is Tom Starlow

Until we sort out the top of the attack, we will always be a weakest-link type team, especially against good squads.   Against weaker teams the defense can cheat up and contribute to the attack, but when Tolkin and Duncan have to stay home and actually defend, we're going to be vulnerable without a legit striker or two.   Manoel and Burke are dead weight, and who knows what Vanzier is.

If we get the Morgan from 2 years ago, we will be an insanely good team. Hard to count on it though.

We were 25 - 30 goals off the pace last year.   If we get 15 from Morgan, we'll still need a bunch from somewhere else to be "insanely good" (especially factoring in Omir, Luq, and Barlow's lost  dozen).

Really impressive,  thank you for this.

Corey Hertzog... 14 teams in 13 years.      Those are Juan Pietravallo numbers.

Bezecourt plays for Geylang International, not Geyland.

Vanzeir likely back for this one. Someone mentioned to me he had to go back to Belgium for a personal matter and his last match missed wasn't really injury related.

With that, hoping Stroud moved to the bench and Vanzeir steps back in.

Coronel
Duncan-SNealis-Eile-Tolkin
Edelman-Amaya
Vanzeir-Forsberg-Morgan
Manoel

Bench: Marcucci/Meara, DNealis, Harper, Reyes, Stroud, Carmona, Gjengaar, Burke and one of Donkor/Mitchell/Hall

hope its 4-2-2-2 with Vanzeir up top next to Manoel.    Not a fan of him on the wing.

Great interview. Reminds me of how amazing BWP was and is. He has a sense of humor, but he's also got that ambition and killer striker instinct. I don't get this vibe from Vanzeir. V's got that Millenial softness and entitlement. He thinks he deserves to be a DP and doesn't have to earn it, work harder for it. The plain fact is scoring a lot goals in Belgium simply doesn't cut it in MLS, where teams know how to defend. I'll give him another season to prove me wrong, but this guy is no BWP.

I've seen nothing that shows a lack of work ethic or entitlement.     He seems to think he is expected to be an all-around star when he's just supposed to be a poacher/finisher.

Thanks for that clip... one of those is seared into my mind... he just dribbles inside, waits to be collapsed upon, and stops. There are RB2 guys who are miles beyond Vanzier at RW. Several of those plays could have resulted in a goal opportunity for Houston.

Upsetting, because I wanted him to come back this season and just be laser focused ... He'll get more time (obviously, who else is going to play) but he's got to start showing up beyond 1-2 great passes.

But he's not a RW

It can't get much worse for Vanzeir than the first 15 minutes of the second half against Houston in that RW spot. Some clips here of him and Edelman coughing it up time after time, mostly Vanzeir.

Wow.. I had to watch most of the game on my phone and missed a lot of Vanzier's screw ups.    The guy can shoot, he can get a cross in, but he should not have the ball at his feet other than that if at all avoidable.

#1443766 Cameron Harper's year to prove

Posted by RedBullScouse on 04 March 2024 - 03:36 PM

Feel like Harper has like 15 more mins of game time to make his case.

Harper's solid, just not fitting with the formation ahead of Duncan.     He's a great option off the bench to push up field and cross it in, and better offensively 1v1 than Duncan.      We've always  needed quality, different look depth players, and we are starting to build some of that.

Am I the only one relishing NYCFC and NE's start to the season? Each time they lose, I feel a little better.

only tempered by DC's success

Lordy. I think thats a bridge too far with the matching shorts.

The tucked in jersey doesn't help

#1443228 Sandro Schwarz in

Posted by RedBullScouse on 26 February 2024 - 09:51 AM

From what I saw, I like Sandro-Ball. Red Bull Press plus comfort with possession.

If one of those shots went in, it would have opened up and been a drubbing.

For CDM backup, I'd guess Stroud, Dylan Nealis... I have depth worries about other spots - outside backs, forward - that are priorities over CDM backup.

Forsberg is not an old man, like the guys in Miami. He's in his prime. I'm not worried about him running.

I don't want to count the Gjengar eggs until they hatch. He could be great, or a work in progress.

DNealis as CDM????  Absolutely not.
