#1369137 Some fans are back

Posted by ivo on Yesterday, 07:25 PM

That's not how it works Reggie. It's a two-way street. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. He can kneel, they can boo. His response indicates he doesn't get the concept.

Keep going.  He can kneel, they can boo, he can say that's a disgusting reaction, you can have an opinion about his response, fans can stop going to the stadium or buying the guy's jersey, etc. That's what "everyone is entitled to their opinion" means. You don't get to decide that Reggie should be the bigger man and give up or stop responding (which the other side would inevitably claim as a victory,  of course).

I wouldn't say we gave up on him - he just got taken in the expansion draft.  I'm not sure who we would have exposed then instead of him.

Funny that they could have had Aaron Long.  Obviously he wasn't this version of Aaron Long back then, but still.

Probably Meara, at least with the benefit of hindsight? Once Duvall was left unprotected, everyone thought he would most likely be taken.

It seems like an obvious option. They've already been vetted by scouts in our organization and are familiar with "the system" for better or worse.

Despite this, how many players have come via this route in the last 10+ years? Tetteh? Rza? Oebster? I know it's not that many.

Gulbrandsen, Damari. Royer probably via Austrian connection though never played for RB. Sekagya and Schopp in the early years.

#1369009 MUYL TRADED

Some of my favourite Muyl highlights:

An assist that even Henry or Xavi would be proud of, and one of BWP's classic finishes as a bonus: https://twitter.com/...270244950167552

Maybe our most recent headed goal from a corner (?), vs DC in 2017: https://twitter.com/...410836257361920

One of many nails in the NYCFC coffin during the Red Wedding: https://twitter.com/...938564538032129

Probably his best finish in a RB jersey, with a left-footed rising shot in the near top corner, against NYCFC again: https://m.facebook.c...393326354246270

And an obligatory Muylesque control and finish from inches out (a rare and beautiful build from the back NYRB goal - notice Sacha's blind pass for the hockey assist): https://twitter.com/...369971957022720

[...] we gave away Adams to Leipzig for probably 1/3 or 1/4 of what we could have sold him for.

Speculation/revisionist history. There were no other offers for Adams at the time. If another team was willing to buy Adams for more money than RBL, but he went to Leipzig anyway, the other team would've complained to UEFA or at least to anyone who'd listen.

#1368967 MUYL TRADED

Posted by ivo on 11 August 2020 - 04:43 PM

Exactly. Surprised to see so many people acting like he is a big loss. This is exactly the type of thing that needs to happen to move team in the right direction. I like Muyl, always rooted for him but he wasn't going to develop further and certainly wasn't going to be an integral part of a championship team. We need to improve this roster, this would be a step in that direction as long as the guys we bring in are better than Muyl-types. This all makes sense to me.

Keep it coming, would love to see Barlow moved next.

I don't think anyone is saying trading Muyl is a big loss or that he would develop into an MLS superstar, but having him as the 2nd or 3rd winger off the bench is probably better than losing for (almost?) nothing. Of course salary considerations, bringing more better players and Omir/Stroud contributing more than Muyl are possible, but the latter two are far from certain. Anyway, done deal and hoping Thelwell does a good job. Still, Muyl will be missed, by some anyway.

Surprised that you'd WANT Barlow gone, he's very cheap and young and again not bad as a 4th/5th striker option.

How about if Armas is cut loose before the New Year end of August? That might be enough for me.

I stopped reading at 2 goal lead, that's enough of an improvement for me right now

Hey Armas had TWO 2-goal leads in our latest playoff game.

#1368568 BWP signs with LAFC

Posted by ivo on 02 August 2020 - 12:36 PM

With all due respect to the great BWP, Diego Rossi did 75%+ of the work. He stole the ball, he advanced the ball, he crossed the ball, and set up BWP. BWP did an excellent finish, but the fact is that we don't have anyone who can do what Diego Rossi did on that play.

Agreed, but I don't think we necessarily have anyone doing the remaining 25% either.

#1368537 All coronavirus-related arguing

Who suggested that? You're rambling here.

Didn't think my post needed a sarcasm tag, but if I must spell out my point, I completely disagree with your claim that "no fans cheapens the product immensely".

It's obviously not an ideal situation, and while I wouldn't be opposed to leagues safely letting some fans back in, I completely understand why they haven't yet. And I am still enjoying the product, thank you, and am sure that many millions of fans are too.

It does look small time.

The NHL restarted today with their playoffs and it was nothing like the rabid atmosphere it usually is in normal times. It felt like a preseason game.

I think at this point leagues can make safe decisions to bring fan to stadiums.

I mean if you expected loud and rabid atmosphere ...in the absence of crowds... that's on you. Admittedly not an NHL fan here, but I did see there was a fight in the first 5 minutes? Sure doesn't sound like preseason to me.

I watch games for the performances, not for the fans, but YMMV of course.

And again, from the leagues' perspective the gain in crowd atmosphere and income clearly doesn't beat the risk of spreading covid, which could naturally result in canceling seasons and the loss of TV money as well.

#1368423 Can we bring some real talent here?

Posted by ivo on 29 July 2020 - 07:54 AM

Everyone here needs to stop fantasizing about age.  Just because your young does not mean you are good.

BWP tearing it up and winning mls cup would make me happy.

Literally nobody in this thread said anything even remotely resembling "being young means you're good"

No, since they didn't lose any of the games.

Two losses in the group stage you should not go through. Under no circumstances. Yet here NYCFC is in the quarterfinals.

Getting serious sour grapes vibes from this. We could've been in NYC's spot if we failed only slightly less spectacularly, and we wouldn't have complained one bit. The rules are the rules. *shrug*
