I'm sick of Lance and Astana to be honest...I still say he (Lance) doesn't win. Yes they have the strongest team but a lot can happen in the mountains.

Lance says sorry...but still a douche.

Great TDF cyclist, but a douche of a person.

Yes he's done a lot for people with cancer, but I can't help but wonder how much of his charity work is an ego feeder.

This.

Every time I tell people that he's a douche with a massive ego, they counter with the fact that he's done so much for cancer research and what not.

While that's certainly admirable and something he didn't have to do, I've always thought that he did it not only because he cares but also because it satisfied his ego.

Douche/not a douche? I could give a fuck.

It's a better race with Johann at the head of a team, and a million times more exciting when he's got Lance.

I am LOVING it this year!

You're a Lance/Johan fan more than a tour fan aren't yuh?

...and a Zidane fan more than a French nats or Real Madrid fan?

I lked when Johan was heading his great Disco team in '06...excitement! eh??

I want a new era. Let it go Lance, it's ok, let it...go...

I love Zidane, didn't matter who he was playing for - I just liked watching him play. He was amazing. What's your point, and what does it have to do with this thread (other than it's one more thing you can complain about?) Did you know he was the first male model that Dior ever used for anything?

The last three years we've had a new era, and it hasn't been as exciting.

Actually, I love Le Tour. I get up and watch it every morning - I'm a Paul & Phil fan. Last year had a hole without Bruyneel & the boys. I don't watch any other cycling tour - but France in the summer in HD? I feel like I'm almost there. When I win the lotto, I'd like to chase Le Tour one year (now that I can't do a transatlantic on the QEII, or fly on the Concord.) It's more exciting when Lance is involved, period. I liked the USPostal days with The Blue Train best. I do wish Big George was back with Lance instead of riding for Cav - although I think Cav is gonna set a record for stage wins in a single tour this year. (I would however, like to go to Solvang next February and catch the Tour of Cali TT.)

i'm not sure about this but i thought armstrong is the strongest through the mountains.

Friday is gonna be fun. Lance used to eat mountains for breakfast. However, he's said himself it's way harder this year - but Astana has four strong guys who can climb. Armstrong, Contador, Leipheimer, and Klöden. I really am beginning to think that Bruyneel's goal is to take over the entire podium in Paris.

Numerous days in the mountains can take it's toll...ask Floyd about 'hitting the wall'. Yes, Armstrong was the strongest climber but having been out of racing for a few years, coupled with age, could make a difference.

Day 1; Armstrong and Alberto V05 look on track to be there on the Champs.

Edit: Look for Armstrong to pay back V05 in kind for that stunt.

I want to see one of the Schleck brothers win a stage.

You're right, I really don't see it any other way...it's over. The only thing undecided is who will wear yellow from Astana on the final day, I hope it's the kid...I like that he went 'rogue' the other day.

It's just about stage wins now for everyone else. I really want to see the climb up Ventoux.

I want to see Ventoux as well....

As for "the stunt"... while I want to believe Lance, Johann, & Levi (that it wasn't "planned"), it's hard for me to believe every single thing any of Bruyneel's Boyz™ do isn't completely thought out and orchestrated.... including that attack on Friday. (I't s almost Spain - throw Alberto a bone, etc... ) I think there is no doubt that Astana can sweep Paris. I also think they have four peeps who can stand on that podium. I think they dragged Contador up that hill on Friday so he could make an attack and scare the begeezuz out of every other team AND so that the boys in turquoise can hint to the press that there is "tension" on the team, making it look like it will be an easy nut to crack and giving everyone else (Evans, the Schlecks, Wiggens, Vande Velde), false hopes of being able to attack, thus luring them in to attacking early and expending unnecessary energy before they even get close to the Alps. And it's easy to make Contador look like an inexperienced kid (thinking he can attack) because he is a kid..... the rest of the peloton might even buy that since he's been out for almost two years..... I also think they (Astana) are using the press to their advantage.... you notice that Bruyneel hasn't had any in depth interviews with the press (management from Columbia), meetings on the team bus (Garmin), nor cameras in the team car (Garmin again), for a reason. I think this year, the less everyone knows about Astana's plans the better. And if the press gets lost in the "Who is Le Boss" (see Saturday morning's L'Equipe headline, "Le Boss Contador"), then that is advantage Astana.

Example today: Lance having a moment with a team member, saying GOOD JOB on the climb, when suddenly Evans attacks - BAM - oh no you didn't! And Evens goes nowhere.....

Contador has been on Lance's wheel almost constantly - Lance, Levi, & Andreas pulling Alberto up the hill.... Alberto can't do it without a team..... however, if it wasn't "planned" and if Alberto thinks he can do it without the team, then he's an idiot.

Good points. I think back to 'poker face' Lance when he was pretending to suffer which prompted Ullrich and T-Mobile to push full throttle. Then when they got to the start of d'Huez Lance turned it on...eventually giving Ullrich 'The Look' and left him. That was so cool! Lot's of mind games etc.

Funny that Lance asked for Frankie Andreu to be the reporter from Versus to cover Astana considering their history.

What's truly rogue and what's staged? Who's got the best poker face?
