The Captain takes one for the team.  From Bocanegra's FB page...

During the last 18 months Jurgen has introduced a lot of new ideas to the team and has a vision of how he wants to grow the program. Every coach around the world has his own style and methods. He has always been up front
with players about where they stand and where he sees them going. Not every player is going to be happy with all of the decisions and methods, but he will tell you to your face where you stand. From a coach, that is the best thing you could ask for. One of the greatest strengths of this team has always been our unity and spirit, and we all remain committed to the cause of qualifying for the World Cup.

Just made this the cover photo on my FB page.  Even with a likely defeat, you gotta rep your team...

Edit: Fuck Mexico

If this is JK's "last stand"...much as you guys might not want to think about it...I'd say the only choice to take over is our own Bruce Arena! But, let's not cross that bridge until we come to it...if we do & hopefully, we won't!!

Yikes - up until this paragraph I was thinking Sigi or Kreis.  Well, let's hope the US beats the snot out of Costa Rica and Mexico so it's just not an issue any more.

(Plus, you know the Gs only hire ex-national team coaches; if Bruce is called away to perform CPR on the US Nats, that means Bradley or the same Klinnsmann.)

This right here. Bruce can get the job done. But as you said, let's not cross that bridge just yet. Also, this should have been two threads...jerks.

I think the anonymous sources on the USMNT need to stop being little bitches and man up.

“He can play midfield, he can play left back if you need him to play left back”— Klinsmann on DaMarcus Beasley

The anticipation.......

I really hope the US has a strong showing and beats Costa Rica but I'm uneasy about it.

And, yet, I'm told I'm not supposed to freak out...

Yikes!

DMB at left back was an old Bob Bradley tactic.

Bad move then and probably a bad move now.

Lichaj and Parkhurst are actual defenders in the pool that can play left back and weren't called up.

The confusion continues...

DMB is by all accounts playing well in Mexico and when he speaks he sounds a lot like Chris Rock, so that counts for something.

Maybe Klinsmann will put him in midfield to provide that elusive "width" to our formation.

I'm not bothered by the guys on the team speaking out - this is what athletes do.  I remember during the Bradley era and Beckham eras wishing that we had a normal soccer press in the US so that the reporters would be asking tougher questions and so the players would speak out more.

I hope we win.

Yes, but playing well as a left-sided forward and not a left back.

I know it seems crazy, but putting players in the position they normally play at week in and week out seems like a good idea to me.

Perhaps it'll all work out in the end, but as Slug's sig once read "My sights are low."

I am screwed. The US, the Bruins and OC United Placentia AYSO U14 all play at the same time tonight.

The Gs, via the Book of Face, are promoting one at OB's Pub & Grill in Manhattan Beach:

I'll have the game on in the background as I try and make a dent in my gigantic pile of grading - mid-term grades are due Tuesday.

Curiously, it seems connected to the pineal gland.
