Veron with 8 goals scored after July 3rd in '17. Wouldn't have made that deep USOC run w/o his contributions.

Marsch never gave Veron any consistent starts.  If you look at his goals/assists vs. minutes played he had good production.

Considering how lopsided this rivalry has been, that video was way too even handed.

And not a damn word about Nazis...

And that game where boy city got the 2 red cards sucked.  The best game in the rivalry was 7-0

Also, I forgot to say, fuck Tinnerholm. Not sure who is the bigger dickhead between him and Larentowicz. MLS should get them both in the same anger management class.

tinnerholm is a dog whistle for the aryan nation fanbase.

Your message for safety is appreciated, but it's the New York Derby. Happy match day!

I agree with this completely but i just read on MLS site that ESC and VA have joined forces with the turd fail to create the 'Hudson River Derby' foundation, to eventually hand out a yearly trophy.

That name is boy city propaganda that plays into their 'we play in the city, you guys are Jersey' BS.

Also, I give it 50-50 odds they end up in Jersey eventually.

Least deserved 3-1 win I can recall

Also Nicolas onside when shot was hard t but offside when ball rebounded equals onside? Hum

He was onside when the ball is played.

He was not offside when the ball rebounded because to be offside the player must be closer to goal than both the ball and the 2nd to last opponent.  Nicolas was 'onside with regards to the ball' per the laws of the game, as the shot was in front of him and bounces back to him, he is never closer to goal than the ball after the initial shot.

DE looked really good in the 2nd half.

And we're stuck with some DC cuntbag at LW in Paul "Tits McGee" Arriola.

He showed great poise setting up the winning goal, slowing down the ball and playing in a perfect 'secondary assist' to the player who hit the cross.

Long is the first American Metro to score in the Gold Cup during his tenure with the team.

He is also the first Metro to score two goals in one Gold Cup game during his tenure with the team.

There goes Long's "I just got kicked off Metrofanatic Survivor' boost.

Schedule too jammed to attend a game until today. Glad I went. 100 pct worth it. This team has guts. What else can be said about Taxi....Love him. SW was great all game I salute you, and yes the tarps look as bad in person as on TV. 3 pts vs the Canucks on Wed and were on our way.

The SW always sounds really good on TV, like better than stadiums that seem a lot more full.  (And no exception today)

great win, triumph over adversity.

spectacular goal, and great defending.

Smart play from Barlow to take the ball to the corner, horrible job by the linesman for not giving us a corner.

And Villalba should probably get a game off for that chest bump bullshit, nice job by Lawrence not taking the bait.

#1345396 Traitor(?) Rossi training

Posted by ianuaditis on 04 May 2019 - 12:07 AM

In this season where the offense has been putrid, it's hard to say he could've been worse than what we've done so far.  For a reasonable outlay, he would have been worth a look, and still could be.

I could literally not care any less about all the 'traitor' nonsense.

'Hey 16-18 year old soccer playing kid who plays for a top 4 team in one of the best leagues in the world:  Do you want to join the World Cup holders in the national team of the soccer-mad country you've been living in for the past 5 years, or move back to the country of your birth to toil in relatively obscurity for a national team who considers it a great success to survive the group stage in a place where it's at best the 5th most popular sport?'

I would have made the same call as him in that situation.

#1344896 Kaku benched, his feelings hurt

Has a sports fan ever actually sued for getting hit with a stray ball?

They usually release this stuff midweek, I'd be we hear something tomorrow or Thursday

Yes, quite a few baseball fans have sued, based on injuries far more serious than anything the KC fan has.

Usually courts rule that the ticket is a contract that puts the liability on the holder for any injuries due to balls entering the stands (because it says that on the back,) but sometimes they let a jury decide.

#1344004 The Fire Chris Armas Thread

Posted by ianuaditis on 07 April 2019 - 08:51 AM

I agree it's way to early to fire the manager.  The team looked pretty good in CCL, though even then they had some stretches with really bad passing.

Someone else posted it in another thread, their passing percentage is worst in the league, this sounds to me like poor execution and on the spot decision making, I'm sure coaching can be a factor in that, but it's largely on the players.

Then there's this:

https://www.fourfour...make-difference

In both victory and defeat, the manager’s role is overestimated. (Hiddink himself doesn’t make that mistake. He doesn’t take himself too seriously.) Managers simply don’t matter that much. Players do. By far the best predictor of where a team will finish in the table is its wage bill: the team with the highest wages generally finishes top, and the team with the lowest wages bottom.

On the long term, under a new manager a team returns to its usual average performance.

https://www.bbc.com/...gazine-23724517

While Ter Weel's research focused on Dutch football, he argues that this finding is not specific to the Netherlands. Major football leagues in Europe, including England, Germany, Italy and Spain also bore out the same conclusion - teams suffering an uncharacteristic slump in form will bounce back and return to their normal long-term position in the league, regardless of whether they replace their manager or not.

#1343163 What is Muyl good at?

Posted by ianuaditis on 19 March 2019 - 02:09 PM

Muyl scores 20 goals, we should all be wearing Depends!

It is a bottom line game. Goals & wins! No style points.

Not 'style points' but one of the things that critics of soccer stats often point to is that a player can have an impact on the game that's not reflected on the stat sheet.

Muyl has often seemed to be one of those players, even in an attacking role, things do seem to happen when he's on the field, even if he's not the first player I'd like to see with the ball at his feet in front of goal.

I voted for bezecourt, because of all the eligible players I have the hardest time figuring out how to say his name (which is at least as valid a reason as anyone who voted for kaku has.)
