Because they dont have the self imposed age restrictions that we seemingly do. Remember how surprised we were when players like Morgan (25) and Luquinhas (25) were brought in this winter?

There is a little more flexibility now than in the recent past to bring in some relatively veteran talent, but we are still a Red Bull team which means an eye towards younger talent, without wanting to pay the price tag for the elite young talent.

Marsch didnt seem to have that age limitation with many of the players he brought in - Sacha, Grella, Colin, Parker. I just think Hamlett and Thelwell early on werent good at their jobs. Or Austria didnt trust them.

I don't know who recommended spending $5 million on Klimala, and making Klimala our # 1 striker.

Doyle:

That's it in a nutshell.

Truer words have never been spoken about this team.

Doyle: What matters is the one thing that stands between this version of RBNY being what they are and what they could be, which is a top-tier, elite MLS side: goalscoring from center forward.

The team would win the Supporters Shield this year if only the team had a striker as good as Juan Pablo Angel. As it stands it seems that team will crash and burn in the playoffs.

and they still won't sign an elite striker in the offseason. They'll bring back fabio (who I wouldn't mind as a backup behind an actual elite striker)

They may try, they've been spending ~$5M per year the last few years and showed an appetite for older players this past winter. Fabio won't cost much to bring back by now, at the absolute most he'd be a TAM player, so he won't stop them from another move.

They just can't whiff as hard with $5M as they did on Klimala.

They've whiffed on every striker they've signed since BWP. I'm not holding out any hope.

Klimala is the only one I'd say they actually tried on. Other guys were draftees or loanees, not exactly taking a huge swing with any of them. Especially if they can offload Klimala, I think they'll make a legitimate effort at another starter.

You are forgetting Mathias Jorgensen so soon?

Completely forgot that was after BWP retired! On second thought, I'm gonna keep that one stashed in the "repressed memory" bank
