I cannot for the life of me understand how Cahill can saunter off for these stupid ass friendlies yet can't play a handful of minutes in a knockout game. That being said the problems run deep with this club.
I'm talking about a state of mind. Having pride, showing commitment to a goal and not accepting a loss in any/all competitions. If you are not trying to win WHY THE FUCK DO YOU SHOW UP!? That lineup was an embarrassment. Zusi was running around the other night for SKC like his life depended on it and it showed in the final score.
Where the fuck is the pride with this team? Petke talks often about the fans and supporters and blah blah blah. It's games like this that say 'we just don't give a fuck about you, sorry'. This was an utter disgrace. Someone somewhere in the FO should hear it too. Anybody who even thinks of attending on Oct 22 needs serious mental help.

did anyone else say to themselves "there's no way Sene makes this?"  as soon as they saw him step up to the spot for the PK?

zero off the ball and aimlessly hitting cross after cross doesn't inspire players to run or even try.

Well well well......I am not kidding when I say this, I didnt watch tonight because we all knew what would happen. Am I surprised? Of course not. This is par for the course with this club, if you want to even call it a club. I knew they would either lose or tie cd fas in this game after the awful showing vs MTL. By awful I mean the line up put out that only got us beat by 1. As da granpre said above.....i wouldnt blame folks jumping ship to nycfc because I can guarantee you kreis takes ccl and any tournament that brings prestige seriously. This is what happens when in reality you have henry and cahill running this club. They coudlnt give two shits about anything except mls cup even that with henry as I have been stating this year, the blow of not getting an mls cup with redbulls is lessen with the shield win last year because to guys like henry and cahill that is most important. If u dont think so, check out their celebration and tour they did after beating chicago last year. This is just embarrasing. Every other team takes ccl very seriously and I was so looking forward to this tourney as a chance to show our region we are a big boys club but instead we just shat ourselves lol pathetic. 3 ccl game so far and how many minutes have our regulars played? I dont want to hear bs about the schedule in mls yada yada yada. Every other team is handling it just fine. I am very close to being done with this abuse.

There's been a whole lot of good posts in response to this shameful loss.  My thanks to everyone (as I root for the team from Brussels)!  Metro fans are king!  (And the RB corporate bigwigs are parasites.)

I just can't fathom the thinking of the RBFO and its Austrian overseers.  The team wins the supporters shield, which for me is the big fish in the MLS pond, but then what do they do with that?  It gets them into the Champions League, and a chance to win the most meaningful prize in the whole Concacaf region, and then FO intentionally squanders it.

In my thinking, the goals should be (in descending order):

1. the Concacaf Champions League, whose winner goes to the FIFA team championship competition

2.  the Supporters Shield, which in the traditional thinking of world football (soccer) is the league title

3.  MLS Cup -- which is just that -- a cup competition, a roll of the dice, and crap reflection of what it means to be MLS champions -- people across the global football world think of Metro (not KC) as the 2013 MLS champion.

4. the U.S. Open Cup

This all get me backs to thinking that the league dearly needs to rethink how the MLS Cup competition fits into the mix.  If it were compared to England (or any other big football country), the MLS Cup competition would be closely equivalent to the FA Cup and the U.S. Open Cup would be on a par with England's League Cup.  And the Supporters Shield would be the supreme domestic prize.

All these moves by the FO to squander their U.S. Open Cup chances and most recently a really nice chance to move on in the Champions League and take on the Mexicans, has to do with overvaluing the MLS Cup.  Making the MLS Cup into the big prize -- as though we really had to follow the structure of the NHL and NBA -- just dilutes the standard of play during the season -- and leads to nowhere.  MLS has set itself up as a league that lacks hunger during the real season and then operates on fear (team fear and fan fear of an early exit based on a single game or two.

Given MLS's and the FO's thinking, I just don't the underlying purpose of our team anymore.

You're a little off the mark here. This isn't England, MLS Cup winners are the true champions of the league, period.

We all expect a bit of a diminished lineup for these early CCL games, but not a complete reserve squad. If you want to roll with that starting XI, fine, just keep Cahill and BWP on the bench...if the scrubs can't get a goal by the 70th minute, sub one of your stars on and close it out. We didn't need to go balls to the wall to win last night...we needed maybe 20% of our actual firepower to get a result and we couldn't even be bothered to commit that much to the match.

Jesus, they're all so naive.  Central American teams will always play to frustrate you, no matter what.

"I dont think they posed much of a threat to us," Petke said. "The only thing I was scratching my head about is the last 10 minutes they were playing for a tie, a 0-0 tie at home. It's really strange to me."

"Personally I was frustrated because I really felt they didn't have much to play for," [Stevenson] said. "Why not? Why were they sitting back? I was a little frustrated by that."

Welcome to fucking CONCACAF.

Another Petke quote: "We could have or should have scored six or seven." - In what world?  We had like, three shots on target the entire game, and Bover's shitty header was the only good chance we generated from open play.

Even more disheartening.  They didn't learn a fucking thing.

if they only beat Montreal, then this game wouldn't as matter as much if we got the tie. like i was telling people before, those ES players want to make more $$$$. thats why they played there butts off. Who knows, maybe a few of them might end up on the ES national team, NASL, Mexican League or MLS.

this performance is disgusting. someone needs to be held responsible. and it is not Roxy's fault.

Thought Armando played his best game as a RB, Sene just couldn't get it done up top. Sene's laziness is frustrating to watch, he makes no attempt to time his runs, chase down loose balls, or press defensively. Not sure about everyone else but I had zero confidence in him when he stepped up for the penalty, and even that swing looked lazy. Peguy should have taken it.

Also it was embarrassingly hilarious watching Bover do an impression of a target striker. Did Petke not tell the team to start playing on the ground once that sub was made?

I am still pissed about this. I can always get over USOC but not bringing some decent players to CCL games is a disgrace. We did not need a full lineup to win but we needed better than what we brought.

He hasn't told them to play the ball on the ground for 2 seasons and Backe didn't do it before him. Why start now?

We're insanely successful when we keep the ball on the ground and pick our spots to hit long balls and crosses. When we start to aimlessly hit crosses and long balls, you know we've given up.

All the individual talent on our roster and we insist on playing like we have Jan Fucking Koller at striker.

I do not want to hear Petke's ridiculous quotes about FAS sitting back and playing for a draw. That is part of the game. It is up to our team to find a way to score goals. With that lineup and the substitutions made scoring a goal was a hopeless situation. Sene's pk was a joke.

I have no idea why they had Sene take that PK.  Peguy has done them before and has looked good doing it.

ANd Sene has been garbage since he's been here.

Thought Duvall and Stevenson were bad.  Especially Stevenson.  Peguy wasn't great either.

Oyongo was our best player and that kind of sucks.

I've lost so much respect for Mike Petke tonight. I was proud to have him as my manager until this very moment. Those words are so hollow it's pathetic.

He's now toeing the Red Bull line and that's it. Never thought I'd see the day. He doesn't get it anymore.

I'm with you on this, highly disappointed.

Not Petke's call...

He's part of the organization, is he not?

did anyone else say to themselves "there's no way Sene makes this?"  as soon as they saw him step up to the spot for the PK?

You could tell he lacked confidence.  I'm confused as to why Peguy let him take it.

Equally confused why he didn't take the free kick from 18 yards out instead of Stevenson.

At least we won't have to worry about this competition at all next season.
