#1438020 The Fire Lesesne Thread

Troy will be here, but agree on the recency bias. Can only hope that the decision makers arent as reactionary as some of the fans. A good run of form shouldnt save Barlows job or mean Manoel should be starting in match 1 next season.

I don't know if people's positive take on Troy is just recency bias.  He's a young coach that took over a bad team that was beat down.  Not crazy to think he's learned and gotten better over the course of the season and that it took time to get the guys playing the way he wants.  Sure, he could just be on a fluky run, but I'll give hime the benefit of the doubt.

#1437752 The White trade, again

Posted by McSoccer on 22 October 2023 - 03:56 PM

Struber didn't rate White at that moment. Things change. The was a point where we tried everyone at striker. We could have used White. Thelwell fucked up, though agree that Struber deserves his fair share of blame. Heck Struber is not even the coach any longer. It's in general not a good practice to give away solid players for nothing without replacing them with better options. Troy delivered a minor miracle of making play-offs in spite of horrendous forwards, and overall poor roster quality. As you said FO deserves a fair share of blame, and that share is enormously huge.

He was FOURTH on the depth chart, a lot was going to have to change. Im not saying it wasnt a mistake, but it was Strubers mistake not Thelwells. Thelwell got $500,000 for Strubers FOURTH striker.  Thelwell made plenty of errors, but getting half a mill for a guy riding pine wasnt one of them.

Clearly White was better than all the strikers playing ahead of him, just not to Struber.

#1437286 NMR: Streaming setups?

Posted by McSoccer on 12 October 2023 - 06:59 AM

The key to cable not going up is calling every once in awhile and saying you need to cancel. They all have retention departments that will help you get a lower deal, it might be for a limited time but when it's up you just call again.

This strategy also works for some streaming services. The other thing I do with streaming services is I rotate what I subscribe to - HBO for 2 months, then Netflix for 2 months, cancel Paramount+ & Peapock after the Champions League & Prem are over, etc

I don't get the support Lesesne is getting in contrast to the Struber hate. (I'm speaking in terms of results as a coach only!) Lesesne is sitting on 1.5 points per game while Struber racked up 1.4. Like I said before, and as the numbers show, he's only slightly better. Chris Armas had 1.6 points per game here, and most of us thought he was good riddance. The team's last 3 coaches have all been subpar.

Struber was under a point per game this season with arguably a stronger team than Troy has had after CCJ left in the summer. Troy is also a young coach that is likely to improve. Im not advocating for Troy to remain coach, but I can understand people that are optimistic on him, at least compared to Struber.

Jesse Marsch is still available. It's the obvious choice. Go after him, Jochen. Give him whatever he wants.

He wants a club job in Europe. I dont know if Jochen could get him one.

According to this (scroll down to RBNY vs Chicago), we're the unluckiest MLS team since 2019:

Or maybe, just maybe, our finishing is broken because of tactics or personnel. Or both. Maybe.

Agree. I think theres enough sample size since 2019 thats its hard to chalk up our finishing to luck.

#1436003 Will Barlow play in every game?

Posted by McSoccer on 17 September 2023 - 10:20 AM

Tom Barlow should  be booed by our own fans every time he touches the ball. Maybe if he feels unwelcome here he will ask for a trade or something.

Why? Its not Barlows fault he plays.  This is on the coach(es), the front office, and ownership. Id boo Tom if he was dogging it out there. Hes working the hardest he can, hes just not good at soccer.

That last part is probably why he wont get traded, other MLS teams most likely want soccer players that can play soccer.

6-0-0 with Salzburg. 16 goals for, 2 allowed.

Lets see how he does when Salzburg plays in the EUFA comps, against teams that dont have significantly inferior rosters.

Maybe Struber wasn't the problem.

He was A problem, just not the only one.

Armas got the United job due to Red Bull.  Struber failed up to Salzburg.  Jesse was able to leave midseason to be an assistant coach.  This should be a very attractive job to a coach with ambition as long as they like pressing

Armas & Marsch were both through Ralf who is gone. Struber had a prior connection to RB. We dont know what the new leaders at RB Global will do. This is a tough job, you can be a good coach and still fail bc of the front office. A good coach would have to think long and hard before he signed up.

For a guy like Troy, this was probably his only Avenue out of USL - he has to take it. USL will be there for him again if an MLS asst job isnt.

Exactly.   Seems like they thought he and Manoel would share time next to Dante, but all three have been miserable failures.    Dumdfoundingly inept at signings for that position since BDubs left.  And, TBF, we got very lucky with BDubs.

And I wonder of BWP would have become the Legend he did without Henry as a mentor. Veteran leadership is important and not something weve really had since the Marsch days.

Of ALL the problems this team has, Nealis as Captain isnt near the top.

#1434167 New Leagues Cup in 2023

Posted by McSoccer on 10 August 2023 - 12:18 PM

who cares? He has been the manager for 10 years and despite all the supposed success in that time, Philly has one trophy to show for it: a Shield in a pandemic disrupted season. They have lost four finals in that time: 3 Open and 1 MLS Cup. We actually have two Shields to their one during Curtins tenure. Long story short, let him crow about owning New York.

Yea, it does make me laugh at how some of our fanbase point to Philly as a successful franchise. Theres no way wed be happy if RB achieved what Philly has since 2018. Wed be complaining Global hasnt give us the piece to put us over the top. The big difference between Philly and us, is that theyve been able to keep their successful front office and coach allowing them to have sustained success and we werent.

Dont get me wrong, Id rather have Phillys record than ours, but theyre still no LAFC.

Again: be careful what you ask for.

Thus, an internal issue. I have not heard anything about the YS neo-Ns in recent years. Many of these issues resolve themselves.

Some USWNT starters not singing the anthem - mean mugging malcontnents

Neo Nazis at soccer matches - do nothing, the  issue will resolve itself

Ok

So you agree with his comment?
