#1444685 Emil Forsberg lack of synergy

The Sheriff (theplayerstribune.com)

Just to feed the TMZ - article by Emil about Shanga (his soon to be divorced wife).....

Wow. Sounds like Emil didn't want to be told what to do anymore and have a sheriff at home and agree with everything. Perhaps he grew a pair, who knows...

Thanks for the updates, Jake and MF. This sucks though, I thought his whole family moved here.

Its a Wikigoal!!!!!!!!

Another counter with great fight by Morgan and Vanzier lays off to Wiki fir the finish under the keeper

Wiki did score on a GK blunder, but I was disappointed with his decision making all game. Reminds of Barlow a bit: a lot of effort, but missing some key ingredient.

What a fun game! Absolutely loved spanking that team.

Morgan and Dante were fantastic!

Nice to see Ryan get a clean sheet too!

Gotta give it to Dante - couldn't score to save his life, but he showed up to play that's for sure. Morgan as you said fantastic.

Meara though - on that goal that was overturned a rookie mistake. Just hold your position, the shooter was in terrible spot. The only way for him to score was if Meara dived like a doofus and he flips it over Ryan. Anything other than that and it is a an easy play for the goalie.

Finally a RB striker scores a hugely important goal in a big moment.

This games exposed the weaknesses we talked about before. No striker at all. Even Barlow in this game would have helped a lot more than Manoel. They kept the possession in their half, rarely giving it up before transitioning. Barlow's non stop cardio would have caused them to have some TOs or at least not make it look so damn easy. Manoel  just doesn't have the gas tank.

Stroud should not play attacking midfield. Schnider sold a starter and now we have inferior player at the position, who does not belong. Stroud is a CDM sub, not attacking midfield starter. Reminds me how coach Troy tried to play Yearwood in that role. Stroud may be downgrade from that.

Our CDM starters are not great. They are passable most times, but not CCJ level we had a year ago. At least need one guy like that.

Full back play was bad. Tolkin I am not too worried about, he should be in form soon, but Duncan is a huge downgrade from likes of Edwards, Murillo, etc, that we had in the past. He may be worse than Dylan Nealis.

Schnider has a lot of work to do. Finally adding a 10 we desperately needed because of RB synergy does not negate the fact he actually weakened CDM by losing CCJ, right attacking midfield by losing Luq, failed to bring in a good striker, and never replaced Edwards with a good RB. All of these losses that he failed to replaced with equivalent players or better happened under his watch. Lots to do...

Gjengaar gets a shot off from a nice Forsberg layoff but it's right at the keeper.

Weak shot at the goalkeeper. He fits right in.

That's 2023 Luquinhas-level numbers

Not even... and in Norway. Don't get too excited just yet.

#1442821 No MLS in 2024 Open Cup

Posted by Borats on 19 February 2024 - 05:50 PM

Garber commented that fans don't show up and there are no sponsors and then the big one eluding to Apple having no interest.

And that's the bottom line. No one cared about it to show up, just us hard core fans. They had  to move games away from regular arenas, it just felt like an amateur tournament. It's basically been replaced with the League's Cup, which feels much bigger and better. I like the idea of the Cup, but the fans have spoken - I have no problems with MLS pulling out and making it more of amateur lower division competition, which it felt like anyway.

This is idiotic. We just transferred a proven good player in Luq for meager 1.5 mil. Now spend all we got for him and more for RBII hopeful?

Just watching highlights before the Miami game on Apple TV. We have no skill players. You see goals that other teams are scoring and theres actual link up play and good movement and good touches and insane finishing. Where are we going to get that from?

I think the loss of Luq, who is one of these players, and not getting a 3d DP to replace him, will hurt a lot more than people realize.

My point is that you CANNOT forget about the start of the year. The GM's job is to build the roster. They have the most impact in the offseason and then they get another big shot in the summer window. At the start of the year, most people on this board felt that, on paper, this roster was an improvement on the previous roster. Our main problem this season was scoring goals. Of course, the players most responsible for that underperformed this season.

Three major disappointments regarding on the field performance this season were Morgan, Vanzeir, and Burke. Again, Morgan essentially missed the season due to injury. In January 2023, I cannot expect Schneider to plan for that (outside of actually using all 3 dp spots). Thank you for admitting Vanzeir looked good on paper. He missed most of the season due to suspension/injury, Schneider couldn't have predicted that. Burke, again great on paper, scored 7 goals off the bench in the previous season. He ends up being another guy with fitness issues. MLS roster rules don't allow for having adequate back ups for these types of players just hanging around on the bench just in case. The 4th disappointment in production is being rumored to transfer. Again, I actually like Luq, but the numbers he put up don't justify the DP tag.

I'm really not trying to be a RB apologist. I believe not using the 3rd DP slot is criminal. Also, I agree with you that the GM must evaluate players in real life and make judgements. I'd argue Schneider is doing that:

Barlow - not good enough, get rid of AND acquire assets
Yearwood - same as above
Fernandez - not good enough to invest resources to keep, let him walk
Ndam - same as above
Luq - not good enough to justify the DP spot, hopefully recoup some $, but at the very least, acquire someone who can impact the game more

Harper - keep, still young, American, shows promise
D Nealis - keep, relatively cheap, American, utility guy
Carmona - keep, still young, affordable?, maybe he makes the jump and becomes another player who can contribute or can be flipped for $/assets

Again, the underlying premise that you don't trust the FO and you want to see an impact player come in before you celebrate is reasonable, but some of the other stuff we'll just need to agree to disagree on. Hopefully on opening day we can crack open a couple beers to a better roster!

Yeah for sure. Frankly I was ready to celebrate when we got both Forsberg and Luq on the roster for these few weeks. Thought at least the attacking mid looked decent. Let's hope we get someone as good or better than Luq as a 3d DP and there will be hope again before the start of the season.

#1440982 Luquinhas back to Brazil

Posted by Borats on 04 January 2024 - 12:43 PM

Yeah, but I'll add that I'm trusting Schnieder's moves.

While alot of us were thinking Djordje as a replacement for Luqs, I am almost viewing it now as Forsberg as an upgrade to Luqs. They shifted Omir, Barlow and Yearwood out (all who generally make sense/are sound business) - I am hoping gives us freedom to replace with a DP striker.

Two days ago we had three DPs, now we have two. We are worse off than two days ago. We can look at it in any way we want, but adding Forsberg straight up is a much better coup than replacing Luq with him. We barely made play-offs last year with last second goal and need more than just upgrade a good player we have. We have a lot of shit players to upgrade. We needed to add a DP and finally use all 3 spots AND upgrade multiple positions. Right now we still have two DPs, not three.

IF we add another DP, it will be a different story, but as of right now, given the loss of Luq, I am not feeling anywhere near as confident as you are. Besides - I can definitely see Forsberg and Luq playing together and even along with Morgan if he ever gets healthy. Dropping Luq is not a good news, unless there is a better DP replacement on the way, and so far I don't see one.

The delay in announcing could be on the Chicago end.

You mean them coming to their senses?

Good job getting rid of mid/low level players. But need to see more of good player acquisitions.
