I actually think this team can do something in the playoffs. The only time we made it to MLS Cup the team looked even worse than these guys have.

Very true. But that team was the worst MLS Cup finalist in the history of the league.

The New York Red Bulls previously kicked around Major League Soccer as the MetroStars with limited success. But after transforming under a new banner in 2005, the Red Bulls have become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. The club has made leaps of progress since its previous incarnation and now has its focus on bringing the league title to New York. Very possibly true but I also think that the only way this team could every succeed and be consistent with its history is to succeed in the least convincing and impressive way possible.

Great game. Great performance by the team.
Props to the traveling hundred for bringing it, too!
The misses by both sides were astounding.
Game could easily have been 3-2.
Ref swallowed his whistle, allowed PT to play thug ball.
I was surprised that he actually called the PK.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Caught this on DVR after accidentally watching the first goal on RBNY Instagram. So hard to avoid spoilers nowadays.

Gutsy performance by everyone but especially Duncan and the entire midfield.

Please no more buckmaster after this. Duncan is an actual soccer player. Bucky...isn't.

Still a bit worried that Bwp offers nothing anymore but let's just savor the victory now.

One of the more fun away fixtures Ive been to in recent memory. Will savor this one for a few days, despite the current state of the club.

fun away fixture ... Will savor this one.

Woke up with a big smile on my face!

Looking at the positives, we scored twice in each game.
RB has scored at least twice in 9 of 16 MLS away.
T5 on away points (18), T3 on away goals (24).
While the OG effed us in SEA, no gaffe hurt us in PT.
D was strong last night. Most played with fervor.
Luck played a role, PT hit the bar, headed a point blank shot directly into Luis, missed an open net.
We could have had 3 in the first 10 minutes.
Keeper guessed correctly on PK, but did not save it.

I hope our play is better than try not to fall asleep for 90 minutes.

Tactics will be:

- do not watch on ipad in bed

- if watching from bed avoid dropping iPad on face

:-)

mission accomplished on all accounts!

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

smiling as well.

We need to find a way to stick it too teams by going up 2-0.  We dominated Portland for the first 15-20 and created 5 big chances on goal (I'm considering that one play where we had 1 series with 3 great chances including the save off the line).

We have a 20 min stetch in every game where we dominate teams now need to capitize on it.

Sims looked good

D played with some attitude and team played with energy and intensity.

Duncan was really good outside of the goal and sweet cross to RZA.  He brings more fight than Murillo.

Charo(a) miss certainly helped as did Ebobisse 2 big misses.

Scoring first, early, helped set the tone for the game.

We dominated Portland for the first 15-20

A strong start.

Sims looked good

I would say great. A roster move may have paid off!
He bedeviled PT all night. Their defense responded by hitting him relentlessly. If he did not, he should have led the team in fouls suffered.

D ... attitude and team ... energy and intensity.

Traveling support was amazed! Who are these guys?

Duncan was really good

IMO, best game of his brief RB career.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Good win. Maybe a little lucky? PTFC had several chances come close. But we'll take it. Big game coming up on Sunday!

Duncan, Sims and CCJ need to be starting from now on.  Get Royer-Kaku-Sims on the field together and see what they can do and develop some chemistry before the playoffs.  The real MLS season starts now.

Didn't see the game but this win probably secures Armas' job for next season. There is little chance the team misses the playoffs now.

Portland made us look good, especially their shit finishing.  That said, Davis had a very good game, Sims showed he has some serious pace (still hasn't shown he can shoot), and great to see Duncan back in the form we saw from him last year.
