#1338738 Attendance again

Posted by matador on 04 January 2019 - 12:32 PM

You were expecting Rafa to be the draw, when we had Henry?

As mentioned, not THE draw, but definitely one of them. Just kinda proof for me that stars and ethnic pandering specifically don't really work.

Of course, over the years you'd see fans come out to support players (still fondly remember the mini Ghanain block that would come out to support grandpa doe. And even if they didn't fill the stadium you'd still see a fair few Rafa jerseys and way more Henry ones (I shudder to think what attendance would have been like without them), it just never really seemed sustained.

But as we're discussing and becomes apparent every time we have one of these threads, there are tons of interlocking reasons why attendance isn't what it could or should be, often regardless of who we're signing or how we're playing.

Yeah, pretty skeptical a big name would make much of a difference. I was honestly pretty shocked back in the day at how negligible the boost we got from Rafa was. It seemed everybody and their grandma came out to see Blanco when he was in Chicago, and we had the captain of the Mexican national team and it didn't really fill up the stadium. Maybe that was just cause he sucked so hard for us. But that's kinda shattered the illusion that signing a big name player would have a major impact on attendance.

#1337454 Adams to Leipzig official

Most transfers between Salzburg and Leipzig are for decent (if below market value) fees. They kinda have to be for financial fair play reasons. And RB doesn't give a shit, what do they care if they have to write a check for 10 million euro for Dayot Upemacano from RBL to RBS? So I'd be pretty surprised if it was really for next to nothing, but the organization does frequently find new ways to disappoint so who knows.

#1336393 Youtube video about Red Bull ownership

Posted by matador on 19 November 2018 - 05:14 PM

Yeah, timing of the video is definitely shit (although I would definitely, gladly trade looking like a dumbass and timing the video terribly for reverse jinxing us an MLS cup, which I just bought a ticket to BTW) but as it's for a german/international audience, the broader story is still pertinent, especially as leipzig remain controversial. Plus we started filming right after Marsch left, just took forever to finish.

I definitely acknowledge all the good RB has done on the field. I'm still a fan, and even if I don't like them it hasn't been enough for me to give up on the team. I just 1. question why they do it and what's in it for RB, as I find it a legitimately interesting question. and 2. really appreciate how they're running the team, just hate that they changed the name/crest colors. Lot's of people act like running a soccer team well is somehow dependent on being owned by a company, whereas 99.8% of teams, over-commercialized or not, are not flat out owned and branded by corporations.

So I get that it's dead horse territory for us and people are tired of the same story, it was hopefully pretty novel for people who are unfamiliar with all of rb's teams, or rbny's history. yeah, i'm annoyed that they cut a lot of the details out but it is what it is.

Hey yall, I'm the Dave in question.

As Greg mentioned, I talked with him, Corey, Brent, Adaer for 20 minutes or so each. Talked for Marsch as long, Poulsen for about 10 minutes and the German ultra for 40 minutes. Which unfortunately means you've got a lot to cut down.

Even with everything cut down significantly, a lot of points I thought were important to make (clarifying Greg's quote to make it clearer that the shift in funding occurred as RBL rose up the leagues, mentioning the academy producing USMNT players, NY fan interviews about how they like the new system don't necessarily miss the stars, fans giving their perspective on why RB does it all from a marketing perspective, etc.) didn't make it in, and as DW makes things for an international audience a lot of it was deemed as just too much information/a bit too thick in the weeds for the average viewer who has never heard of RBNY, let alone metro. So I understand a lot of the criticism and a fair bit of it is valid.   Definitely a bit frustrating that most of what's been pointed out was originally in and was cut out in an effort to keep it shorter but that's just how it goes I guess.

I do appreciate people watching and giving feedback, even if a lot of it has been pretty vitriolic, it's the internet, and my mom liked it, so that's good enough for me.

probably old news but the german broadcast of the panama match stated bundesliga scouts are watching murillo closely

#1319870 Felipe for Tim Parker (NOT a rumor)

Posted by matador on 02 March 2018 - 08:05 AM

Damn, Marsch is absolutely stone cold.  It was annoying that he'd never bench Felipe (who really was good for us, and is in his prime) to rotate in the younger guys and now he ships him off.  Marsch really seems to bring in his boys but then has zero loyalty when it comes to holding on to them.

Although I think we have the depth to make up for Felipe leaving, losing him, Sacha and Dax in a 2 year span is pretty crazy.  And who knows how long Adams (or Davis, or Rzatkowski) will be around.  We do certainly need an upgrade at CB.

He was on trial at Schalke earlier.

Schalke is basically just a deutschland based US u-20 team at this point

guess he's just trying to pile on to leipzig's rep as the  most hated team in germany.  although i don't know how many people in eastern germany will be too worried about a bit of right-leaning populism.

#1294232 Red Bulls Looking to Sell Stadium Naming Rights

really don't understand the point of buying the club and building the stadium to advertise the company and then selling the stadium naming rights

Midweek game on short rest with a struggling first choice 11, this is a perfect spot to run the usual starters further into the ground.
