The final in NY will also motivate other CONCACAF teams like Costa Rica (assuming they qualify).

They could set up a watch party at RBA when the USA plays.

There is also the tv time. A final at 3pm NY time is about 9pm in Europe.

Hollly crap. Metro had not beaten the Revs in a preseason game since... 1996.

I noticed that in the 96 pre-season game with the Revs, which was the last time we beat them in pre-season before today, our 2 scorers  (Vermes and Savarese) went on to be long-time MLS coaches. What can this foretell?

#1440347 No MLS in 2024 Open Cup

Posted by Rybka on 16 December 2023 - 09:39 AM

It is a necessary and smart move although it pisses off hard-core fans who think it is the FA Cup American style.

The move protects players from injuries. There is no discipline enforcement in the US Open Cup. If you get a red card you don't play in the next USOC game. The red card does not carry over to MLS. The pitches are bad especially the turf ones. And if the best players don't play, the fans get pissed. No reward, all risk for the teams. Owners have to protect their assets. Players do not want to end their careers on a bum field in some hick town. And players and owners get very little financial remuneration because the US Open Cup does not generate revenue. I don't know the insurance aspect of this, but it might reduce insurance costs for MLS.

What works in Europe is not necessarily what works here. None of the other 4 major sports in the US have any tournament close to the US Open Cup. Imagine the NY Yankees having to go play a double-A team.

Unfair to Troy. But he has a bright future.

My optimistic thinking says that maybe they want a bigger name so that they could impress potential signings to do a stopover here on the way to Europe. Bring back Jesse.

Get eliminated by goal difference would be so Metro lol

An unpressured own goal in extra time would be so Metro.

In its entirety, great world cup so far. I guess France is now the favorite. Has there ever been a WC before where both Brazil and Germany go out in the Group Stage?

It seems a bit much. Certainly they both should be punished. But then they should be given a second chance to show if they have learned something. Then if they repeat, then you fire.

#1425275 Next USA coach?

Posted by Rybka on 24 February 2023 - 10:31 AM

Is the job really that attractive right now? With departures of McBride and Stewart, the fallout from the ridiculous Reyna's whining about their son not playing and ratting out Berhalter's past to the media, USSF seems all outa sorts and I'm not sure a serious candidate would look at this and be excited?

Concur. No rational, successful coach would want to be in this den of incompetence and corruption.
