#1315681 Shame

Posted by 11Redknapp15 on 28 December 2017 - 04:14 AM

Well see, Im not talking about socioeconomic issues. Theres a supposed combined effort by all Russian Ultras to have an open season on any opposing fans. Like, kids, parents in their countrys gear... There was nothing like that in South Africa or Brazil.

I'm late to the game with this reply but given my ties to Metro and Russia, I thought I'd chime in on this one.

A few quick pieces to hit on...

There is little chance we will see anything like what transpired in France, maybe one or two small disturbances but that's about it.  Russian Football, RPL or lower league is one animal, the World Cup with the world's eyes on the Kremlin's investments is an entirely different animal.

Ukraine was sold as the same (Ukraine/Poland Euros), racism would be rife, foreigners would be taken advantage of and Ultra's were waiting with unbridled enthusiasm to make their marks. We now know that was anything but the case.  Fear & Ignorance of the press were squelched thanks to a well run tourny & hospitable hosts. The likes of the British who ran w/stories of people of color will be attacked, were proven correctly wrong, so much so that even the Kick It Out campaign apologized for the negative press and lauded the Poles & Ukrainians for their open arms.

The Russian Sochi Olympics were then touted as being a haven for potential terrorism (Chechen proximity  &  attacks in Volgograd) and home of 3rd world conditions & hospitality... all of which were proved to be false (or over exaggerated), with the press reluctantly praising the efficiency of the Games.

'17 Confed Cup was then seen as a warm up for Hooliganism, hastily constructed stadia & an ignorant welcoming country. Those aspects were again proven false.

Now the same politically biased fear mongering is starting to boil for this summer, with most fingers being pointed by folks who've never even stepped foot in the country, ridiculous.

I've spent many wonderful times across Russia and I can honestly say that this Cup may not go down as the best ever but it will have ever opportunity to garner that chance. The police & army will be so thick in each city that if any b.s. does occur, it will happen well outside of the hosting cities or it will be squelched in mere minutes. As the people of the nation, a warm welcoming bunch who live in a country that oozes history & beauty around each corner.... I hope that even though the Stars n Stripes aren't involved that some of you get the chance to experience the vast wonders of Russia.

*to the quoted  gas huffer, just using your post as a means to explain the other side of the coin, nothing personal intended at all. Cheers.

F him....  Once again, no stones in this boy.  Want to be great, look at how many other's took it on the chin for their country and responded by playing hard and better.

Deserves the boo's, Metro on paper and nothing else.  Can't handle the pressure and that's why he'll never be a great footballer.

Spain, Nope, England, Nope, Turkey, Nope, National Stage, Barely... Can't handle the pressure, enjoy the glamour of living in the shadow of the 'Leafs.

I watched this match thinking about the final in '03, man oh man that was our Cup, that loss hurt.  Each match running up to the final had a story and numerous moments that just made that run so f'n special.  This final, I watched and rooted hard for SKC... I just couldn't stomach seeing RB lift silverware, Metro wounds still run deep. Only TH14 and his magic armband has made me push aside my feelings of disgust.  For those who support RB, sorry for the loss... for the Metro boyz n girlz who lurk around waiting for the day RB sells, a virtual high 5 to you.

Shame Tommy Smyth isn't involved, Ultimate Metro boy.   He could even manage to work a Metro comment into a Rapid Bucharest / Dynamo Kiev match.

At best, maybe he has some spirit and becomes a fan favorite. It's not like this fanbase hasn't worshipped diminuitive strikers before:

The history and the meaning alone make this Cup something each fan should get behind. Calling it a waste is laughable and only helps the USSF to continue skirting the fact that this Cup is severely underfunded.

Dallas almost made a solid claim to why lifting the Cup is a big deal, CCL berth is no joke as is the prestige that comes along with winning it.

The old jersey was equally ridiculous with the symbolism. It was a better jersey though.

Make it pop, yo. That's it.

The band around the collar and referring to the RB crest as being original '96 material was a slap in the face.

Most other clubs from '96 have donned some sort of throwback/homage to their past... this club, not a f'n chance, you can't find Metro in the beverage aisle.

#1292029 The Cosmos is no longer a team

Posted by 11Redknapp15 on 18 December 2016 - 06:28 AM

I'll put it this way: if someone acquired the rights to the Whalers name and restarted them as an ECHL team I doubt that the nostolgia would make it a success. If someone acquired the name and made them an NHL team you'd be dealing with an entirely different kettle of fish.

I beg to differ... If the Whalers played in the Mall in the ECHL with  their full on identity intact and in place, they'd kill it.  The Cosmos are no different but they'd killed their momentum by never getting out of Hofstra.

You can't be the Cosmos vs the world in D2 by always jetting across the world. Same for trying to piggy back the OneWorld operations off of the club... cart before the horse.  Seamus thought he'd have a little goldmine by playing sexy football in NASL and hosting big name clubs to display to the masses on OneWorld but no home pitch killed that one too.

#1286320 Favorite Metro Games

Posted by 11Redknapp15 on 27 August 2016 - 06:49 PM

Metro - Tampa , '97... Michael Butler off the bench for the winner in the 90th and then off into obscurity.

Metro - Chicago '05 .... Guevara with the gorgeous finish from the top of the box to win it in the final seconds.

Metro at DC '00 .... Petke's winner at the death. After the 99' season, this was so sweet.

Metro - DC .... Open Cup '03, Woly's winner at the end to send us thru (Juskowiak & Guevara were legendary in this one)

Metro - Hampton Roads 98? ... El Tanque hits the late winner to send us thru in the Open Cup. Barely anyone at this match (Kean U) and those of us in the stands abused the ref, the H.R players and Alexi Lalas to no end.... Lalas gave us the finger, a H.R. player tried to get into the stands due to our thoughts on his wife... just a great footballing experience from the stands, one of my most fav matches I've ever attended.

#1280154 2016 US Open Cup

Posted by 11Redknapp15 on 20 May 2016 - 09:02 PM

2016 and there is the same buzz for the Open Cup as there was in the early years.

I'm shocked more fans aren't into the tournament, it's fantastic and holds so many great tales.

I've seen every Metro Open Cup game home/away but two and even traveled out to Seattle from South Fla last year for the Tims/Sounders match.... wound up moving here after that.

US Fed needs to put more $$ into advertisement and press... it's a crying shame more people aren't up this tourny.  I for one hope a NASL team grabs the Cup, I think only then will we see the MLS up it's game and interest.

#1279534 Ouimette assaulted in USL game

Posted by 11Redknapp15 on 08 May 2016 - 09:10 PM

The Riverhounds cut him for being a scumbag. This has nothing to do with the league, and therefore I don't think it's harsh at all.

This was the owners decision. If you assault people when your working, you might get fired.

Sadly, I think he'll land somewhere soon. He's been scoring a lot of goals.

He'll get a ban for at least a year and it should be a FIFA ban which would see him sit out of almost any league. At best he might hook up with an indoor team but considering what he did, I don't think any club will want to put him on the books this season.  Talent like him who can score goals at the USL level are a dime a dozen and given his new black cloud around his head, I don't think we'll be seeing much more of him anytime soon.... and rightfully so.

This match & incident also goes a long way to show why the NASL is a better product.... the ref's are seriously sub-par in the USL and this match showed it in spades.
