Nope. I do some work for the ESC, but these designs are neither endorsed by nor approved by the Empire Supporters Club.

?

What I mean is: if this is the way the supporters choose to act, then we deserve every bad thing that happens to us—Every playoff loss, every corporate re-brand, every local rival diminishing the team's status—everything.

If you choose dissonance over harmony, then you deserve misery over satisfaction.

We are an embarrassment, and we deserve to be mocked by the rest of the league.

Sometimes I hope NYCFC does destroy this team and cause it to fold. We don't deserve any better.

But people will ask why we're asking Tim Howard to stay, and ask why Tim Howard is holding a turkey leg?

Road trip to Pittsburgh next year to watch the RBNY-USLs take on the Riverhounds? Can't beat the view at their stadium.

#1219267 STH - Any winners of 30 Days of Prizes?

Posted by BillFromAstoria on 14 August 2014 - 09:00 PM

"To put it in simple terms, you would not see the Coca Cola logo on a blue background."

Actually, if you go to La Bombonera for a Boca Juniors game, the Coke logo is in blue, otherwise the Boca fans would rip it down, lest they associate Coke with River Plate. Heard that from Tim Vickery on an episode of BBC World Football Phone-In once.

DeGrandpre sure is a real soccer guy.

Some of you have bought my designs in the past. The old ones, plus a few new ones, are now for sale on my independent online store. These designs are not affiliated with any supporters groups. Just a few of my own creations.

Don't see something you'd like? Let me know and I'll try to add it.

Tons of shirts, all for the cheeky price of $19.96

Enjoy.

#1215694 30 Days of RBNY Prizes

Posted by BillFromAstoria on 23 July 2014 - 07:37 PM

Limit 30 entries? So if I renew 2 seats I get 2 entries. But for "free" I can get 28 more? What.

That is how I read the terms and conditions, yes.

But I am no lawyer, despite my ESC membership.

#1215686 30 Days of RBNY Prizes

Posted by BillFromAstoria on 23 July 2014 - 07:20 PM

People may have received the 2015 season ticket brochure outlining the club's "30 Days of Prizes" for those who renew their season tickets. Those prizes include everything from jerseys and anthem jackets to seats in the owners box or—the grand prize—an away match trip to Portland or Seattle (no bus trip for us, Garber).

Thing is, by law, you do not have to buy season tickets to enter yourself in the drawing, and buying season tickets does not increase your odds of winning. (theoretically)

If you're a cheap bastard, hate the front office, and want to fuck over your fellow season ticketholders (who were going to renew their tickets anyway), follow the instructions in yellow below. It will allow you to win team gear or even a trip to Portland without giving one American cent to Dietrich Mateschitz.

Always read the fine print, folks.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.

ELIGIBILITY: The 30 Days of Prizes Sweepstakes (“Sweepstakes”) begins on August 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”) and ends on September 5, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. ET (“Promotion Period”). The time shall be determined by Sponsor’s timekeeping systems. Sponsor shall have the sole discretion in determining the timeliness of any action or inaction related to this Sweepstakes. All times mentioned in these Official Rules are in Eastern Time, unless expressly noted otherwise.

Void where prohibited. Employees, officers, and directors of Red Bull New York, Inc. (“Sponsor”), Red Bull Arena, Inc., Major League Soccer, L.L.C. (“MLS”), and Soccer United Marketing, LLC (“SUM”) and each of their parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising agencies, public relations agencies, prize suppliers, including any vendors providing services in connection with this Sweepstakes (collectively, the “Sponsor Affiliates”), and employees, agents, directors and officers (including members of their immediate family – i.e., spouse, mother, father, in-laws, grandmother, grandfather, brother, sister, children and grandchildren – or those living in the same household) of Sponsor or any Sponsor Affiliates are not eligible to participate in this Sweepstakes. This Sweepstakes is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws.

Purchase Season Tickets. During the Promotion Period, purchase one (1) or more season tickets for the New York Red Bulls 2015 home matches (each, a “Season Ticket”). You will receive one (1) entry into this Sweepstakes for each Season Ticket that you purchase. For an entry to count for a specific drawing, the purchase must be received and finalized by Sponsor before the relevant entry deadline described in the schedule below. A Season Ticket may be purchased via: (i) by telephone (1-877-RBSOCCER); (ii) on-line (http://tickets.newyorkredbulls.com); or (iii) in-person at Red Bull Arena located at 600 Cape May Street, Harrison, NJ 07029.

Mail-In Entry. On a 3”x5” card, hand print your complete name, street address (no P.O. Boxes), city, state, zip code, date of birth (mm/dd/yyyy), plus daytime and evening telephone numbers (If you do not have a telephone, indicate “No Phone.”) and your e-mail address. Mail your entry in a hand-addressed, business-size envelope (#10) with first-class postage to: 30 Days of Prizes, c/o Red Bull New York, Inc., 600 Cape May Street, Harrison, NJ 07029. Limit one (1) entry per envelope. For a mail-in entry to count for a specific drawing, the envelope must be postmarked before the relevant “Entry Deadline” listed in the schedule below and received before the “Drawing Date” listed below and associated with that deadline.

Limit thirty (30) entries per person, per family, per household in this Sweepstakes, regardless of which method or methods of entry are used. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, or postage-due entries or entries not received regardless of cause. In the event of a dispute over who submitted an entry, Sponsor will determine the identity of the entrant in its sole discretion. By entering and/or participating, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and MLS’ Privacy Policy and Terms of Use as set forth in these Official Rules.

#1213833 Expansion of practice facility in Hanover

Posted by BillFromAstoria on 09 July 2014 - 07:06 PM

I'll give you that. Dayton and Los Dos don't draw anybody. But NASL is about to lose 2-3 of its biggest markets (Atlanta, Miami (maybe) and you figure either Minneapolis or San Antonio is MLS #24), not to mention what a successful NYCFC will take away from the Cosmos.

NASL also is adding a team in OK City next year who don't have a stadium and will be competing with an upstart USL side in the OKC Energy. Their other expansion team, Virginia Calvary, might be the NASL equivalent of Guns N Roses' Chinese Democracy, a long-rumored project that never gets off the ground. And credit where credit is due, NASL is doing great with Indy 11 and I have high hopes for Ottawa once they move into the new CFL stadium.

USL, meanwhile, is adding a ton of new clubs (albeit, some of which will be MLS reserve sides) and there seems to be legit excitement in Louisville, St. Louis and possibly even Detroit if they can get their act together.

If I had to buy stock, I'd buy stock in the USL-Pro. I see NASL folding in 3-4 years. They hitched their horse to the wrong wagon.

#1210425 Near the Break... Where things stand...

Posted by BillFromAstoria on 07 June 2014 - 09:21 AM

I'm probably in the minority here, but I'd rather NYRB go all out for the US Open Cup and hopefully win it. I'm a history fan and this unheralded Cup is one of the oldest sporting cups. Nice feather in the cap to add this to the barren trophy case. If anything, just for the respect of the history of the Cup and soccer in the USA. And also to appease the soccer gods that Backe pissed off by not taking this Cup seriously. As long as this club can back into the playoffs and earn a spot then that will give the fans something else to cheer for come Fall. The playoffs are a crapshoot and higher place in the standing doesn't translate to playoff success. If the side can be competitive in CCL then that would be just gravy for me. Come next season and the seasons after that, we're going to see a diluted MLS with all this expansion and lord knows how that will all pan out.

In a year where we didn't have to make up ground in League play and have the energy for four CCL games, then sure, give the Open Cup the respect it deserves. But you've got to prioritize, and the scheduling of the Open Cup this season SUCKS for us.

• RBNY's first two Open Cup games are in the middle of the World Cup break (which is only three weeks long anyway). Send out the reserves, let the first teamers get the rest they desperately need.

• The quarterfinals would be July 8-9, which would mean that RBNY would play 7 games in the month of July (counting the Arsenal friendly, where we know Titi is going the full 90).

• The semifinals would be August 12-13. August is RBNY's least busy month and that was done on purpose, to give them ample time for CCL travel and games.

• If they somehow made the final, it would be Sept. 30 or October 1, two or three days after an away game in L.A. during a hectic home stretch.

You'd want to go through all of that just to win the Open Cup and, possibly, gambling away a chance at qualification for the Playoffs or crashing out of the CCL? I love the Open Cup, but not that much. Imagine how ambivalent Petke & Roxy are.

The ship is listing, we've got to throw some dead weight overboard. Disappointing that it probably means losing to the Cosmos and hearing their shit-talk for a year, but we still have a chance to play for MLS Cup. They don't.

Question for you all: I have been around here for a while now, know the supporters, know the culture, and know the need for winning in the face of a history of shortcomings.

Has the Shield made RBNY fans complacent about tournaments outside of the MLS competition?

USOC would be a hot topic leading up to the tourney.

CCL groups would be dissected to the nth degree in years past.

Not this yr.

Am I reading the pulse correctly here?  Or is this just me?

Has it made me a bit complacent? Yes.

This year is almost a throwaway year, there's a definite trophy hangover. Shit, I'm still a bit hungover from last October 27.

New salary cap next year, coupled with Henry's expiring contract, means that this year is almost an afterthought. MLS 3.0 starts next season, and we may as well save a bit of cash then splurge once the pursestrings are opened up by the new CBA.

Does that mean we should just throw away games? No, but I understand the twisted logic behind winging it this season and then making big plans in 2015.

If RBNY was playing anybody except the Cosmos, then most people would agree that USOC was not too important and we should focus on the league campaign. But, pissing contests trump all.

Cahill's header against Toronto. Dax's header against Salt Lake. Cahill at the death vs. New England. Robles saving a penalty against DC down a man—Any one of those things not happen and New York loses the Shield it won by one point—and this season becomes nine months of desperation. But it didn't. And we're not desperate…yet.
