Keep thinking about this past game and people talking about how hard of a worker Mines is.

Is Ben Mines just an Alex Muyl who can actually finish?

Nah - way better 1 v 1 skills

None of them ended up in a true scoring opportunities from the run of play, but he had 3-4 dribbles directly at Portland's defenders in the box that kept them on their heels. Muyl has never shown that sort of direct, aggressive play with the ball.

To me the defining characteristic of Ben Mines is his nose for goal/poachers instincts. He has scored at every level hes played.

Mines reminds me of an MLS version of Pulisic - young, with a very attacking mindset (i.e. likes to dribble at defenders instead of holding the ball or making a backwards pass).  It looks like he has a high ceiling ahead of him; hopefully we can hold him for a couple of years and sell him when the time is right (after winning a few MLS cups and CCL cups)

I heard on the TopDrawerSoccer podcast that Mines turned down a full ride scholarship to Stanford to sign with us.

Yea, shows how much the kid and his parents believe in him.  He may make enough money to pay for college if his playing career doesn't take off, but he may not be able to go to Stanford then since he can't play there.

I don't remember her name, but there was an Olympic Gold Medalist swimmer from the last Summer Games that turned down big endorsement deals to keep her eligibility so she could swim at Stanford.

I think it also shows how much trust they have in rb as an organization, as much as they do in their kid.

Sometimes I think the entire Red Bull existence has been some 19 year old kids football manager save file he only plays when he comes home drunk. - 'Mibabalou'

Assuming he could get into Stanford without being an athlete.  I don't know if they would or wouldn't honor his acceptance in 3-4 years.

Thats a $250K give-up.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

I imagine he'll earn at least that here (I know, taxes, yada yada).     How much less would a SNHU online degree be worth?     /s

I would love to see “Gold” Mines get a run of starts for us. Kid reminds me of a more skilled, faster , stronger Mike Magee

If I saw how Jordan Morris's career is going, I wouldn't go to Stanford either.

If Morris injury ends up being career ending for some reason, hell at least have a Standford education.
