#1444343 No MLS in 2024 Open Cup

I never would have thought it would be that cold but the wind there made it so uncomfortable.

It's scary how young all these kids look lol

As an MSU alum and commuter most of that time, I distinctly remember how brutal the wind was on that campus as I would walk to classes from the various garages and lots I was assigned.

it's getting a little too chummy in here.  bad things start happening when you people are relaxed.

A loss at Columbus should restore the natural order around here

Am I the only one relishing NYCFC and NE's start to the season? Each time they lose, I feel a little better.

I hope Hartford FC lose every game, lose their new stadium and ultimately get relocated to Des Moines

3 surprising Metrofanatic fan reactions - for me anyway

The universal excitement over how we played - We played good, sure. We also scored zero goals playing a very mediocre club that was missing one of the leagues best strikers.

The new Swedish defender - Same as above - We played a very mediocre club that was missing one of the leagues best strikers.

Optimistic about the team - We added one great player(Emil) and lost a decent player (Luq).  Otherwise this is the same group of players mostly everyone here was complaining about last season.

Universal excitement is nowhere the tone I am getting from this thread, nor is it a term I would ever use to describe any discourse in all my years reading MF.

32 is like 200 in Red Bull years, but this would be pretty exciting if it actually came to fruition.

The Knicks and Rangers play in MSG! There are so many corporate seats, and seats sold to travelers that those clubs could trot out teams of U14 kids and there will be 18k in attendance. You cant compare it to the demand for an MLS ticket. People will go to YS to watch the Yankees, but not necessarily NYCFC. You can better compare the Red Bulls to the Devils and Islanders. When those teams are poor attendance drops. Not sure if the Devils ever have solid attendance.

Not to mention they are the only teams in the area that play at a transit hub that connects 4 boroughs, NJ and LI.

Devils attendance has looked great last year and very early on this year.

The most impressive thing about the 14 year playoff streak to me is how remarkable it is that this club cant even luck into just 1 MLS Cup appearance in 14 tries. Not that this years club was the one to do it - they are the worst iteration of all 14. But it is still quite remarkable how many ways they find to rip our hearts out.

they look like a game from the Romanian league in 1983.

I wonder how many goals 2023 Tom Barlow would score in 1983 Romania

Two reasons why teams who have clinched a spot in the playoffs will go easy in a game that the opponent needs to win to get into the playoffs:

1. avoid injuries
2. Smart gamesmanship for them to let a weaker team jump over a stronger team for the last playoff spot.  You never know who you will be facing in a knockout playoff format.

Example: Concacaf in 2017 when Mexico and Costa Rica each lost their last game. Theoretically each of them could have met the US in a knockout game, but as it turned out, their losses helped to eliminate the US.

The US in 2013 did the opposite. By beating Panama in the last game, we allowed a strong Mexico to jump over a weak Panama.

I rip our club endlessly, but are we really weaker than all the other dogshit clubs vying for the last spot? All these clubs are mediocre at best. I would argue I would least want to face us in a 1 game playoff of all the teams vying for the last 1-2 spots. We have conceded 10 fewer goals than all, other than the Smurfs.
