#1443440 No MLS in 2024 Open Cup

Posted by MTF on 01 March 2024 - 09:39 AM

MLS should have changed nothing. Let clubs decide how much they want to put into it. If you want a trophy, go for it. If youre unhappy, squad rotation. Teams can choose to play the back half of their roster and if they are lucky enough to lose, they are out of the tournament in just one or two matches. There was no need for them to rock the boat. Im still disappointed over not winning that 2017 Cup. Would have meant four pieces of silverware in six seasons.

In general, all game he made every effort to keep his feet, which I applaud.

Not me. Luquinhas wouldve gone down as if hed been shot. Would have drawn the penalty. We are already missing his contributions. 😉

True
Im highly encouraged
2 crossbars and a post dang
2 more big saves as well iirc

And we looked good I think much better passing and Forsberg looks VERY LEGIT

Still think thats a red on Davis unintentional but totally reckless

If all you have is complaints after this one I dont know what to tell you .

100%. A very small sample size but Forsberg looks like the long awaited heir to Henry and Sacha. Just need to get him a finisher.

This red-black-red kit palette is fire, as my kids would say.

You cant argue that no one watches the US Open Cup and then say that certain viewership does not count because messi is in it.

The last time I checked, messi plays in the United States so he is part of the equation whether you like it or not.

CBS has the rights to us open cup games. Did people have concerns about their production value last year? No.

CBS Sports has a history of success covering soccer, NFL and other sport programs.

The US Open Cup final never drew close to 1.2 million viewers before Messi, and wont again unless Messi is in it. Your premise was that the tournament has strong viewership. No, it doesnt. MESSI has strong viewership.

Stop making thing up.

1.2 million people watched the US Open Cup final.

That is almost 4xs more than what avg MLS game receives and it was close to past viewerships of other MLS final games.

Based on your logic... the casual fan is not watching MLS games.

Come on! Context please! 1.2 million watched the 2023 final because Messis Miami was in it! Produce the viewership numbers for the previous decade. The tournament is for diehards, casuals dont even know it exists. I think its a great tradition, but  MLS doesnt want to be a part of it because the production value of the aired games is minor league and reflects poorly on how the league wants to present itself.

Healthy Vanzeir, Manoel, and Ngoma is better than the 2023 contingent of Manoel, Barlow, and Burke in my opinion. My preference is for New DP, Vanzeir, Manoel, Ngoma. The key question is do Vanzeir and Forsberg develop chemistry? If they do Dante could have a breakout season with quality service.

Do we think in the future, most of our transfers are going to come from within the other two RB clubs in Europe? Seems like management is focusing a bit more on within the organization? I'm fine with it. No doubt there's great talent at Leipzig and Salzburg.

Maybe at least until we (hopefully) win an MLS Cup. Perhaps RB Global is thinking, Lets do whatever it takes to get NY a championship. Then maybe their supporters will shut up for a little while. Lol

#1442129 What are coaches judged on?

Posted by MTF on 03 February 2024 - 12:01 PM

Struber got the job because he had friends in high places in red bull. It wasnt based on merit.

There is a culture of cronyism at red bull.

Totally agree. Resources or not, Struber did not help his career with his tenure at RBNY in the eyes of any other club in the world outside of Red Bull. If soccer was like American football Struber would never be a head coach or an offensive coordinator. The guy only knows defense. Any goals scored by strikers on a Struber team are in spite of any coaching or tactics.

While everyone else was injured, Barlow kept playing. Thats worth something. I agree the team sat on their hands, and thats my point. If Burke can't play, we are looking at a terrible Striker corp from 2023, that has been made even worse. The reason getting rid of Barlow and letting Omir walk was ok to me was that it meant higher quality strikers were coming in. Those Strikers need to come in asap.

Barlow getting tons of minutes was not at all a positive thing. Complaining that we lost Barlow and all the minutes he played is a ridiculous argument. You make it sound like while everyone was injured Barlow put the team on his shoulders. The guy is an athlete but not a soccer player. Id rather give an upcoming RB2 or Academy striker all those minutes Barlow played. We literally could not get worse production.

Why cant Adidas just give us the 2020 red and black RB2 jersey? https://www.football...-bulls-ii-kits/

If it was, people would not be suggesting improvements.

Solutions in search of problems. Refs have yellow cards. Use them

Oh, I don't care about the team, but I got levels of MLS hate and they are nowhere near the top.

NYCFC, DC, and Philly didnt win the Cup. Thats enough for me. Couldnt care less about anyone else winning it.

Big fucking surprise, it was Miazga.

What an asshole.

Had to be Miazga. RBA is his first home. The rest of the Cinci guys probably couldnt find the refs locker room! 😉

#1438707 Why no excitement?

IIRC, RBA was not a full house when they played.

Physical attendance was miles better 2010-2014, and there were occasional sellouts. Which is what I meant by from time to time. Now you only sell out for a friendly against a European power or if Miami comes to town. I want to see 18k night after night.
