Didnt the 96 Yankees win the World Series?
But Cleveland and Atlanta had better regular season records!
We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

i hate this thread because it is a constant reminder that our owner does not have serious ambitions for us.
So true... But it's a good place to vent and have hoop dreams about what could they do if they actually wanted to throw around all that energy drink money... Rockstars are better anyway

I mean Sean Davis and Muyl have been great all things considering they're from the academy and the college system... But they aren't even mls all star calibre...
If NY are finally get over the hump they will need the 5 midfielders to play all star level especially in the playoffs and resting your hopes on people that haven't done that yet and don't have the pedigree doesn't make sense...
They have got to acquire a CM and Winger or better yet a CM and a Winger that can also play CAM if needed that can create their own shot and score and that is clutch and has proven can win something...

But forget Joe Corona and not gonna lie little jelly hearing Marco Fabian going to another place in MLS, Nani possibly going to swamplands... And Nagbe going to cow country... Yet nothing...nothing from the NYRB FO...

while i think we need to add one more elite piece, i think in general a lot of our fans underrate some of the attacking players we have. maybe part of it is the system but on an xG+A basis per 96 mins Royer is #24, Etienne #25, and Muyl is #28 in all of MLS. Our biggest area for growth in attack will be if Kaku can maintain his early season form for a whole season. Kaku finished ranked #48 and he is capable of doing a lot more than that. with our defense we don't need a midfield full of all stars (and its impossible with a salary cap), but we do need a second player who can get to BWP's level of offensive contribution. When Royer is hot he gets there and the team looks amazing but he is streaky. Frankly I dont think we would be so worried about adding another "significant" attacker if May Kaku was Kaku all season.

Not impossible so long as we have a DP spot sitting there unused.
I see where you're coming from, I thought our roster was good enough to win everything last year. I don't think we needed that last attacking piece to do so.
But its always going to be disappointing to see a lack of ambition from ownership, and its tough to interpret leaving a DP spot open as anything other than that. At least if we're gonna say that we're gunning to be the best in MLS and not just decent.

I honestly think they purposely leave that 3rd DP spot open as either an emergency slot for contract negotiations. I.E. they want to resign a guy but cant find any way to do it other than use that DP spot OR OR OR OR OR they keep it open in case they find that absolutely perfect player that they cannot pass on and will sign him at any cost.
My response to that would be that there are probably lots of perfect players for this team out there. Look harder.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case but that's a shame....I honestly think they purposely leave that 3rd DP spot open as either an emergency slot for contract negotiations. This group is probably the best shot NYRB has ever had.. Add to it to get that much closer heck maybe two stand out signings and that might be exactly what was needed to get over the hump this group has met in the past couple of years in the playoffs
Maybe poaching Liga MX players might be a avenue to try...
Alejandro Chumacero is a like for like for Adams maybe less speed but Chumacero is more of a scoring threat..
Dorlan Pabon...
Or why not try again from Argentina...
Matías Rojas could be the next Miguel Almiron..

My favorite thing about this kid is he shoots from distance as soon as he sees daylight and shoots with either foot!

🍻Here's to him hopefully somehow landing at NYRB

But being more positive cheers to Matías Rojas on his great season and helping what's considered a smaller club in Argentina fighting for the title tied in first with the very popular Racing

he's worth almost as much as Kaku.

cuz of GBS being LA's coach, Boca offered him Sebastian Villa. Racing has allegedly offered Ricardo Centurion.

If MLS is ok with loans... I'd hope NYRB would swoop in.. Word is new manager at Boca has said Sebastián Villa is not so much the style of midfielder he wants... Villa is a wide forward, a winger in a 433...that shouldn't be a stretch for the system NYRB has.. Grella and Sam are pretty much wide forwards and they did great in the system... Villa would run circles around most in the MLS..
http://www.espn.com....ip/_/id/5277132
In this particular video its said that Villa, though heavily thought as a part of his national team and possibly a starter for his national team, has barely seemed to be used by the new manager even though he's like for like with Cristian Pavón.
And now seems like Villa's camp is looking for another league to jump to and the commentators in the video specifically mentioned MLS... He would be a great addition.. His speed is on oar with Taxi or maybe even faster and he has a pass first mentality that would be great for getting the ball to BWP.. He's good 1v1 and comfortable playing out wide and he's can score.. Basically he's what the FO thought Veron was going to before they realized they signed a back up second striker as opposed to a All Star winger.. Sebastián Villa would be a all star winger here
Here's some highlight reels that aren't disappointing

https://youtu.be/zq2rgsaqmgk
I feel like being at Boca has helped him a lot and now he just needs minutes to be elite world class.. He's the poor man's Mbappe... Both have those long strides and quick acceleration that seem like they're about to out run the ball.. Similar style as far as heat map and attacking mindset
