Agree, but the point still stands - Copa was a major tournament, and even on home soil to get to semis and take 4th is a huge accomplishment. Replacing the person managing that team with Arenas after losing to Mexico and CR proved to be the worst disaster of US Soccer in 30 years. We can put down Copa and dump on JK, but that isn't on him. JK didn't get a chance to top Panama and Honduras to qualify. Arenas did. Arenas and US soccer president, whatever his name is, MUST be let go ASAP to have any credibility going forward.

Yea, it's fuckin crazy Arena (and Sunil) is still employed.

Arena not getting fired is ridiculous but doesn't upset me nearly as much as Sunil not being shitcanned. Really we all know that I have a better chance of being the coach on January 1st than Bruce does. He's as lame a lame duck as possible.

Who is going to shitcan Sunil? Hes the president of the USSF and ran unopposed for the position!

I suppose if the majority of USSF board members wanted to they could fire him but theyve all been very happy to keep him around for 8 years. They even CHANGED the USSF laws last month so he could run for a 3rd term!!!

Our only hope is that someone runs against him this winter (someone NOT currently on the USSF board) and somehow SOMEWAY convinces the good ol boys on that board to upend everything.

Odds of that? Zero. Cause they know if they vote for an outsider that means THEY will all become outsiders.

Klinsmann absolutely should have been fired. Don't forget he was both technical director and head coach (only a fanboy like gulati could have made that one up), and he sucked at both. He liked to think of himself as a disruptor, but he was more of an op-ed columnist who pens bromides to please his handful of followers. Klinsmann said after the World Cup, that his two biggest goals were getting to the Confederations Cup (failed) and the U-23s getting to the Olympics (failed as well). Borats forgets about all that.  The only real bright spot during his tenure of mediocrity was the Copa, and that was more of an aberration than anything concrete. Our WC performance was horrific, despite advancing. Oh any some decent friendly results! haha. What a hack.

Honestly, he should have been canned after his first qualification experience, when we were garbage in the first round, and then started off poorly (remember the big Strauss article on how all the players were shitting on him?). Gulati should have realized what a charlatan this clown was, but instead gave him an extension BEFORE THE WORLD CUP.

Having said that, what the fuck was Arena doing? The arrogance and absolute callousness exhibited during the last four games (I'll include Panama as well) just blows my mind.  I know a whole series of things had to occur for us to not even make the playoff (dempsey post, fluke own goal, fluke wondergoal, panama's garbage, etc), but come on. The lack of self-reflection on his end just pisses me off. But that is on Gulati as well. We were foundering before the Hex started and Klinsi did not have a good grip on the group anymore. If Gulati had any clue instead of being enamored by this snakeoil salesman, he would have made a move then. When Klinsmann shat the bed with those two horrible performances the only real option was a caretaker with experience like arena.

Anyway you look at it, this was horrible. This overview is very strong: http://www.yanksarec...lati-and-beyond

With all the dishonesty and bribery going on in the world of soccer, you would think someone would have bribed them to guarantee at least a draw. I guess this proves that the US has a high standard of ethics.

Arena officially resigns according to US Soccer. Can't believe it took so long. Can't believe he had the audacity to say that he had no interest in another 4 year cycle as if people actually wanted him to stay on.

Or we are too cheap to pay the asking price.
Which could not have been much for players who have a hard time getting paid by their own management.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Vermes, Tata, Ramos, Osorio, Sasha Cirovski (U of Md.) and even David Wagner are names that have been thrown out there.  I would add Oscar Pareja as a possibility, too.
