slow day on the board so

just scanned this article https://www.onceamet...back-tournament

deploying Kaku in a static wing role (where, especially in the 4-4-2 formation, his role becomes devolved into a source of layoffs to overlapping fullbacks) and centering the more limited playmaking and delivery skills of Daniel Royer. Cristian Casseres, signed two years ago after shining in South American youth tournaments as a deep-seated ball-spraying holding midfielder, continues to be deployed in a confused box-to-box role that does not flatter his more deficient dribbling and off-ball skills. I

Noticed the points about formation and tactics and the lack of effectiveness of Kaku Royer (+everyone else) in the last game/games.

With the current squad (we all want additions/improvements/4 Young DPs/CBs not assisting on other teams goals week in week out) what would be the best formation/tactic?

42222 or back to 4231?

I like the idea of 4222 but it did not help  left acres of space v Cbus and ineffective v Cinti with what little we had to go on.

Would a return to 4231 and some different tactics help ?

---------White-----

Royer - Kaku - Valot

----------Davis CCJ------

Pendant Long CB TBD Duncan

You could even go

Kaku-----Valot - Myul as Myul is strong defensively that allows Duncan to go foward (assuming the CB isn't assisting the other team)

Also, with Pendant staying back a bit (for now hopefully as he adjusts) this would allow Kaku more freedom to roam which seems to suit him.

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Armas has this fascination with keeping Kaku out wide that I don't understand. That's why Kaku's assists dropped off a cliff when Armas took over in 2018, he took him further from goal and had him float out wide more often. He's good playing creatively in tight spaces, he's not going to blaze up and down the sideline whipping in crosses.

I feel like we're counting down the days to another Kaku tantrum and transfer rumor if he feels like Armas is putting him a position to never end up on the scoresheet.

with the current roster 4-2-3-1 is the best main formation, with 3-3-3-1 as a secondary formation.  That said if they sign new players like they should, this conversation can be revisited.  Formations/tactics are only as good as how well your roster fits it, so if they signed players that fit the 4-2-2-2 better i have no issue playing it.

Mainly you cant play 4-2-2-2 with such an unathletic midfield.

Frankly most of the roster is unathletic, which is/was hidden by creating turnovers high up the field.

Now in this hybrid whatever system theres not enough speed to counter from deeper positions on the field.

Most of our speed is in the back which makes and made since when we played a super high line (Long, Duncan, maybe Pendant)

Neither CCJ nor Davis have both the speed and strength to cover ground and break up attacks

Valot, Kaku, Royer, and White are all below average to average in that department as well. No one to really put pressure on opposing defenses and stretch the field.

Kaku lined up at LM with Huracan quite a bit, iirc. But he had Wanchope Abila up top and Pussetto at RM.

Kaku seems to still have the same tactical instruction as if he were playing more centrally though.

Gets on the ball and tries to play direct progressive passes, would think playing out wide he would try to take on defenders more and dribble.

Cant speak to if that was a feature of his play at Huracan, but we havent seen it very much recently.

Kaku is very good at whipping the ball in from outside.

Under a better coach and with a better supporting cast he would be good out there.

Hes not going to perform at either position as things are.

Good points, and well evidenced by the Cincy game. At a minimum this team needs a target striker. Whipping balls in to Omir and Royer was a losing proposition against Cincys big, strong back line. The closest thing to a target striker we have is White. I couldnt believe Armas didnt start White up top.

Reason 767,839 why Armas is a bad coach. Its ok to start Omir over White, but NOT if the plan is to whip crosses into the box.

100%

If the plan is to start Omir as a false nine with Valot and Royer as wingers, with a directive to keep the ball on the floor, that's totally fine.

If the plan is to start Omir and change nothing at all about the cross-heavy attack, that's fucking stupid.

It's why there was that article where Kaku talked about his ex teammate Wanchope Abile (currently with Boca Jrs). Had Abang had his head screwed on straight, we'd have no need for a target striker.
