Twellman taking a shot on how MLS and US soccer does things the American way instead of how the rest of the world does it. "We reward mediocrity"

Meh I still hate pro/reg, also it's not like the MLS draft makes any major differences to a teams success like drafts in other sports do.

How do you recompense all those MLS owners who invested thinking there would be no pro rel if it happens?

Garber has talked about this.  He says it's funny that sports in America (The most Capitalist country) follow the most socialist concepts.

He cannot add/subtract, if he thinks Pulisic cannot play in a World Cup for 7 years, when the next one is in 2022.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

He may have meant the time of his first call up and the first 2022 WC game. An odd way of thinking.

I used to think pro\rel would never happen and that it was okay. it was okay to Americanize the sport a bit, do it our way, so long as we were progressing.

Well, I think we've hit a wall. I think the case for pro\rel and breaking up the structure of MLS has never been stronger.

The MLS owners/shareholders/franchisees/etc. would have to agree with it, and it is not in their self-interest to do so.

The fact that they have pro-rel is the reason the KHL is a much better league than the NHL and why European basketball leagues are so much better than the NBA. Seriously, the people pushing pro-rel are the people who paid like $50 for an NASL franchise and want a route to parlay that into an MLS team. It's ridiculous. The blame on MLS is really pissing me off because the players in the league from other CONCACAF nations who are beating the shit out of us don't seem to be hurt by playing in an "inferior" league. Leave pro-rel to Tinfoil Ted and his cult.

Pro-Rel sounds exciting. RB could have two teams in MLS and twice the advertising exposure!

Yeah yeah, we know.... and I'm personally not the biggest pro\rel advocate, I'm just seeing an opportunity for the case to be made that we should adopt more of a standard FIFA format (the schedules, the pay to play, free agency, single entity, pro\rel, etc).

There's some who think the anti-trust concerns are compelling and perhaps owners will want to get ahead of the change before it's court-ordered. MLS owners are very much aware of how leagues and federations are run overseas and many of them own European teams. The model can't be that bad if all the world's richest business people want in.

Those December and January games in Colorado, Salt Lake, Chicago and RBA will totally be packed. Going on the FIFA calendar is just as insane and unrealistic as Pro/Rel.
