Quotes from Kemar and Villalba following the game:

“Lack of respect? Honestly, I can tell you what I said,” said Lawrence. “I said, ‘Bring your best. Come on, bring your best. I see you bring your best against every guy week in, week out. I want your best. That’s what I said.

“If he feels that’s disrespectful, that’s his fault.”

Atlanta super fans calling this a rivalry and thinking Kemar's actions and such have awakened a sleeping giant, etc... can't wait for July 7th and so on.

First off, not a rivalry. Got DC and the MCL locally and that's enough ffs.

Second, me thinks a certain red headed shit-kicker from Long Island might be be up for the next meeting.   I hope he is, and that he brings the pain in that match, too.

Cheers

haven't seen the stadium rocking like that for any team outside of Blue team. DC is our historical rival, but over the past couple of seasons, ATL has supplanted them.

Perhaps more residual anger over last seasons playoff debacle, than a true rivalry.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Nah... ATL gets that response, deservedly, wherever they go.   We had a little juice over the way last season and the playoffs went, but rivalries do not happen in one season.

But if we have similar playoff meetings with them over the next few seasons, isnt that how rivalries start?

I will let you know.

What a win. Most unexpected home win in a while.

The Parker foul was a red card. I knew it was as soon as it happened. Clear view from the South Ward. It sucks, and it is a very soft foul to get a red. But it was 100% a foul. And it was a 100% the last man back on a clear, scoring opportunity. That's a red card. It doesn't matter that he ended up getting the shot off, he was completely off balance and falling down, because it was a foul.

Tarek has been really good. Best case scenario that we could have expected. Great trade considering we got him for peanuts. Reliable backup CB and gives us the ability to play 3 in the back if we want. Nealis has also looked good.

Kemar Lawrence is a fucking beast. Guy just puts out fires before they can even start. It makes such a difference with him in the lineup. There is no doubt in my mind that if Lade had played over him, the entire game would be different. Love his antics at the end too with Villalba.

As for a rivalry with Atlanta...it feels more like a "big match up" at the moment. If we both continue to be top teams and play big games, it will turn into a rivalry.

I don't know about the red card for that though. Yes, he did foul, but he didn't exactly take the guy completely out of play. Yes, there was some grabbing, he impended a little bit and let go, it was soft, and falling down or not, the guy got a great shot off, which Robles was very fortunate to save. Foul, yes. Yellow card - yes. Straight red - not sure about that. I've seen a lot worse fouls without a red, and this was a bit harsh. Not completely wrong, but I don't recall too many straight red calls like that. Harsh.

Its all about being the last man, doesn't matter if its the softest foul in the world at that point, if its a foul its a red.

That ref's stats are absurd though, I think they said on the broadcast it was his 6th red card in 11 games? Something's very wrong with your approach if you constantly need to toss players like that.

Its a little more complicated than that, but yeah.    You can't penalize the guy for trying to stay on his feet and get off a shot.   If he wasn't fouled, that's almost certainly a goal.

Not penalizing a guy for staying on his feet, but there was a light contact, and while yellow card is unquestionable, I just don't see refs pulling out red for something like this many times. Parker is much bigger than him and yet he stayed on his feet - there just wasn't much contact there to give a red in my book. And the shot he got off was as good as any, whether he was off balance or not. Robles was fortunate to save it - no opportunity was even denied.

If this is a legit red card, then refs need to pull out way more cards (yellow or red) in general, otherwise it is just inconsistent. You can definitely make an argument for a red here, but then you can make an argument for a yellow or even red for a lot of fouls not given in any game. Heck, even in this game, how about Atlanta guy pushing Lawrence at the end. That could be a red too, and it wasn't.

There is no argument you could make for a yellow.  Any penalty in that situation - last defender, close to goal, offensive player with the ball in reach, heading towards the goal - has to be a red.    It's a very specific situation clearly defined in the rules.

The argument for a yellow in that situation is that regardless of what the rules say, I'm (the ref) going to give a yellow because giving a red is too harsh for what the foul was.  Simple as that.

Like when you see contact in the box that the ref lets go, whereas if the same contact happened out in midfield it gets called 11 out of 10 times.  Sometimes refs use a little discretion when deciding how strictly to apply the rules.

Getting back to Lawrence, I love the guy and think he had a great game, but he went a little overboard when he screamed in Villalba's face.  Lawrence is generally a pretty cool character on the field, but he let his emotions get the best of him there.  If the game wasn't basically over, he maybe gets a stupid yellow, for the antics after the tackle rather than for the tackle itself.
