Barlow to CB?

I feel like he's the type of player who would realize if it's his only chance to be on an mls roster he might be up for position change.

When Long was out in 2021, we used:

Reyes/Nealis x12
Tarek/Edwards x6
Nealis/Edwards x5
Reyes/Nealis/Edwards x4
Gutman/Reyes/Nealis x2
Tarek/Nealis/Edwards x1

Figure if we tried that in 2023, we should expect good results with Reyes/Nealis, but depth?
I would take Edwards or Tarek over any of Nocita, D. Nealis, or Ndam. We need a fringe starter here.

Great breakdown and totally agree. D Nealis can't play as a CB. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

What position can Dylan Nealis play where its not a disaster waiting to happen?

Did geoff Cameron retire? He might still be available. Not many other Americans I would trust.

Philly has 4 quality cbs. I wonder if they have a moved lined up.

The coaching staff seemed genuinely spooked by the injury crisis along the backline in 2021. There was a much more noticeable effort to manage minutes and avoid muscle injuries in 2022. You would think that same lesson about preparing for inevitable injuries would apply going into 2023 with such wildly unproven options as high as 3rd on the depth chart. So I've been surprised to see some guys covering the team suggest they'll stay with the current group until summer. We're one injury away from major minutes for Dylan Nealis at CB, and I don't want to watch that experiment.

A fringe starter by the end of the winter really needs to happen. Plenty of time to do so, I'd personally be shocked if they didn't.

Will be interesting what they do here. Technically roster is full now though we know they are working on some outgoings. Without any training camp info hard to know how worried about position we should be also. For all we know Nocita could be killing it in camp.

Absolutely need something more at CB. It's obvious that Reyes/SNealis will be the starting duo, but another vet to go along with Nocita would be ideal. The pickings are slim as far as domestic CB's out of contract go.

Would be great to get a Burke type (age/ability) as the 3rd CB.  Based on the Schneider's moves so far, it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Whether it was to make room (Dax, Sacha) or to bring in a needed player (Felipe), Marsch wasn't afraid of trading away talent within MLS.  We have an abundance of CMs that Schneider can maybe use one of to obtain a quality CB.

When does window close again? May?

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

correct imo give preseason to ndam and Nocita to prove it and the first month of the season and if you need to make an upgrade you got a month to do it

I wish preseason wasn't such a secret. I don't know why the MLS is like that. Make things open like the NFL and get the fans interested before the season. I guess there will never be a "hard knocks" style show for MLS.

This may be more of a RBNY thing than an MLS thing. Recent management has been very intentional about keeping preseason under wraps, I guess not to tip their hand to how they intend to play this season?

I've also heard that preseason streams get like, 100 viewers so many MLS teams stopped bothering.

almost all teams dont stream anymore the cost outweighs the benefit. Less about teams wanting to be secret and more just the overall effort is a lot for little reward. Its not a league thing just a team thing
