How many times does it have to be stated that Murillo quit on the team when he didnt get sold he wanted to be sold after World Cup when that happened he stepped up again only to totally quit and become a cancer in the locker room to force a move after he wasnt sold in the summer.

#1375406 Offseason will be a bloodbath

is the new academy goalie they signed going to taxi up with the USL team as the backup or solely U19 play?  Possibly could be TBD.

tbd Ill have more academy content coming soon from conversation with the leaderships there but one thing that is clear is thelwell was big in pushing more young players into the 2 team and I expect that trend to continueb

#1375279 Struber didn't start Kaku

Posted by Efried on 23 November 2020 - 11:24 AM

Yeah as much as I'm a "stats" guy, this one strikes me as one where there's more to the story. I'm just surprised the difference is as stark as it is in 2020 because I thought he passed the eye test this year and looked good.
So while I don't think it tells us that Kaku is a bad player, maybe it does hint that he's not quite at the level to carry a team on his back like we've seen with other star players in recent league history like Valeri, Lodeiro, Giovinco, etc...

imo he very much failed the eye test and the team always looked more fluid and like a team with him off the field. Kaku is not a player who takes over a game he also has a tendency to drift and drop out of position which is problematic when counter pressing

#1375206 Struber didn't start Kaku

Posted by Efried on 22 November 2020 - 07:26 AM

To be perfectly honest, I thought Struber would be an upgrade over Carnell. I was hoping he would start Kaku. I did not expect Yearwood, Davis, and Valot to play together. I was hoping for CCJ and one of these 3 inferior to CCJ guys play opposite CCJ as CDM. Stroud and White played well lately. I hoped he would start Clark, and he did, but the other choices are befuddling, Particularly 15 minutes for Kaku. Didnt expect them to come out clueless in the second half after he had a break to discuss tactics.

To answer your question, I dont know if Carnell  does anything differently and wins. All I know is that I was hoping for a commonsense upgrade over Carnell, and we didnt get it. With 15 mins to Kaku felt More like we got Armas back instead.

kaku trained once and Struber has his 11 before even seeing kaku train think it was clear kaku was never going to start and doubt Carnell would have started him

https://youtu.be/VevEmzpPCDQ Jaminton Campaz on the RW

Duvan Vergara on LWhttps://youtu.be/PcLFnuydoMY

And they both have a will to shoot from range and score

Metro need them and they'd fit Metro..

And since I'm bored let's just add Mario Mandzukic and Jack Wilshere that are both without a club..... These upgrades would make Metro imo title contenders

Someone call Thelwell. These core 4 plus the youth Metro have already.. Great mix

vergara was linked to Leipzig over the summer and some I believe speculated it was actually New York. Would be a great signing

#1374492 Gerhard Struber no longer a rumour

Posted by Efried on 09 November 2020 - 06:53 AM

He wont be available to medi until he arrives until that point Carnell has full autonomy to do as he pleases. Struber will probably not coach the team this season even if he arrives on time. Better to let Carnell finish the season and continue evaluating

#1374132 International slot wasted

Posted by Efried on 30 October 2020 - 12:30 PM

i know the rules just emphasizing that having unused assets is poor management.  Thelwell has done a lot of right things but that was a mistake.  whether teams aren't cash strapped, or sitting on a chest of funny money doesnt change this fact.  On 10/9, 10/15, and 10/19  SKC and Montreal traded 2020 international slots for GAM.  No reason for us not to do the same.

unless they wanted the flexibility then decided this was a poor time to invest in an international talent still think it was something they had to take and would have been fine not using. As far as not selling it Montreal slot was for 2020-2021 the skc one was to DC who likely didnt want to do business with us if they could avoid it and that was the market.

This remind me of the "we're looking for the right fit" stuff that we've heard for 5+ years. Sure, this season is a bit of a write-off, but if we just got a league average striker instead of Barlow, you never know what happens in the playoffs. And if you could sign someone that's better than league average, I'd hope that Struber is a good enough manager to accommodate him in whatever system he's planning on.

They did bring in Yearwood and Tetteh, so clearly it is possible to sign players with a (possible) future here without Struber physically being in the country. Phones and video calls exist in 2020.

Anyway, I dont necessarily disagree with waiting it out, but saying there's "zero reason" to consider alternatives does irk me a bit.

FWIW yearwood was one of thelwell first targets. When he did sign it came out he had held talks back in February March and was close to leaving. Think a real possibility exists where he signed much earlier if not for Covid. Tetteh is a loan from Salzburg so its zero commitment if Struber doesnt want him

Few more hours to sign that international DP striker with one of the open roster spots!

At this point between the visa and quarantine, unless there is a late trade, we sat on the open roster spots, DP spot, international spot, just in case someone out there "fit the system".

the international spot was about next year most likely more than using it this season zero reason to make an major investments before Struber gets here

#1374092 Samuel Tetteh To New York Red Bulls

Posted by Efried on 29 October 2020 - 05:12 PM

Wrote a bit about him. I like what Ive seen in the build up and he is smart player. Havent decided if that makes him worth keeping but if it he is say replacing royer as the tam attacker I wouldnt be against it if another top striker was brought in https://t.co/c6fzD3iHR1

#1373845 Hamlett is in so far over his head

Posted by Efried on 26 October 2020 - 03:31 PM

I thought I read the league had a hand in getting Minny to come down as well.

my understanding Clarks agent and the Red Bull went to the league to mediate the deal because Minnesota was being difficult

The credit is not for recruiting Clark but for getting the deal to 75k gam instead of the nearly 300k Minnesota was asking for

We needed depth a both positions so it makes sense that they upgraded there. Jensen was a pick of Paul fernie the head scout. Also to give hamlet credit he was the one negotiating the Clark deal and got that over the line for a lot less than what Minnesota was asking
