for the slower UCLA folks i will repeat . . . there is a difference between a player/student cheating and the institution. aside from floyd (obvious piece of shit), show me one instance since the early eighties where USC has cheated. no amount of internal controls can be put in place that monitor students routing payments to family members. how many student athletes are at a given university? i don't know . . . maybe 300+? figure each person has 10 or so close family members. you expect USC to monitor 3000 personal financial records? not only is that illegal, it isn't even practical.
if you are going to slam USC for bush being classless . . . why don't you turn that same microscope on UCLA for its countless violations over the years.
per the NCAA, there is a clear distinction between the institution cheating and a player doing something that avoided the institution finding out.
i will still go on the record saying this, if a relative of a player is given money by an agent . . . and that relative is supposed to influence the player, how is that the business of the university? when the player comes to a university, how do the university and that player have a legal right to control what an independent third party does? keep in mind, i think it is still perfectly legal for an independent third party to take money (from an agent) in hopes of having that person influence they players future decisions.
you can't hang the university for the lack of necessary laws on the books. no matter the number of internal controls in place the bush situation would not have been found out because (again what is common sense to many isnt necessarily so to bruins) the corrupt individuals in the case of bush were not internal to the university.
the mayo situation was a breakdown in those internal controls, but when you have a corrupt coach those things are going to happen. i would fault USC if floyd had a history of this kind of behavior, but fact is he didn't (otherwise memphis and UofA wouldn't have offered him).

interesting . . . . if the rumors of him being a disciplinarian are true, i am on board with this selection. seems like a good fit and counter to floyd.

As a fellow Pac-10 fan, I love the selection of Theus.
He will destroy the progress your team made under Floyd, and that makes me a little happy inside.

Even better:
Kevin O'Neill hired at USC
Kevin O'Neill hired at USC
O'Neill could have been the best the Trojans could salvage. Time will tell if this marriage will be a successful one, but it appears USC feels comfortable giving the keys to their program to a guy who has tons of experience in coaching basketball, regardless of his past record.

insert any coach, and with the lack of talent on that squad . . . and we ain't doing much. hopefully this guy can stay here 2 - 3 years, recruit a few guys, then allow us to go after a more respectable coach.Even better:

in short . . . fuck.
