31Charlie's thread on getting a painting appraised reminded me to ask you all about another paint related question.

The paint on My '06 Honda is starting to go. It had one of those clear coats and that's been going for over a year. But in the last few months, the paint on the back part of the roof above the rear window and one spot on the trunk has gone away, and now the white stuff underneath is showing through. The car sits in the driveway a lot and is exposed to the sun.

So my question - would it be cheaper to get this handled now, or will I have to get the whole car painted anyway so I might as well wait until it's worse. I don't like how it looks but I don't like spending money right now that I don't have to.

So help me out here.

Do you have a good service history at the dealer?
If so ...

Go to them and ask them how much to fix it, and tell them you expect the car paint to last longer do better than this.
Next call Honda's consumer affairs office and tell them the same thing.

See what happens...if it can be fixed for under a grand, they might help you out with some or all of the repair.

If you don't have established service records at the dealer, you are in a much weaker bargaining position and are probably on your own.

PS: these are the criteria I use to help those in the same boat with my brand.

PPS: your paint warranty was probably 5 yrs/60,000 miles. Are you sure you have no warranty coverage left?
