There was plenty of blame to be shared among the back four. The loss of Tarek hurt. Insinho came on and ran around and through everyone. Lade was beat, but so was Royer. That goal was deflected past Robles by Nealis, and Parker made the whole play onside. Nealis conceded the PK, and no one covered Ilsinho on the rebound.
MLS diehards have this romantic view of Open Cup/CCL, treating it like the FA Cup/UEFA Champions League.
Well, excuse us!
Or, look at the clubs who have taken the USOC seriously.
We went to KC and saw a full house for the USOC final, which they won. Seattle, SKC, Chicago, DCU, LA Galaxy have all won multiple times, and their fans care! Even Philly have been trying (0-3 in finals in last 4 seasons) and if they win, they will have one more cup than us.
BTW, outside of the UK, cup competitions in Europe are not big draws in the early rounds either. In most countries, only when the top clubs become involved in the later stages.
